Summary: Secrets of the Rose Gardener
Review: I found this 70 minute DVD to be very informative and thought provoking.
An ideal medium for showing at rose society and garden club meetings to stimulate discussion and to pass along timely information on how to care for various types of roses.
The photography was close-up and easy to understand what was being said about the various types of rose plants. The color was excellent and the photography of a year in the rose garden showed very clearly the various needs roses have throughout the growing season.
The musical background was delightfully peaceful and inviting.
This would make an excellent gift for anyone growing roses.

Review: Unlike most instructional videos (dvd) which have a static camera trained on an instructor giving step by step details, this one offers a different approach. The cameras follow Ellen Minet, rosarian for the rose garden at Long Island's Coe Estate, and her volunteer assistants as they tend the 700+ roses through all four seasons. As they plant, fertilize, water, spray, prune and deadhead the roses, they offer practical advice for the viewer. The garden's collection includes all types of roses (hybrid tea, shrub, old roses, climbers and ramblers) and she explains the different techniques that each rose requires. The photography is exceptional (beautiful tight close-ups) and this is an excellent course for the beginning rose gardener. The dvd also includes a segment on how to sharpen pruners, a photo gallery of interior shots of the Coe mansion, a rose gallery slide show and descriptive text of various rose growing techniques.
