Summary: My favorite Disney character finally on dvd....
Review: ...and a fantastic dvd it is! Along with Tomorrowland, this was the set i was much anticipating, since the Donald shorts are some of the funniest made by Disney. In my opinion, the Looney Tunes shorts are much funnier than these. Nevertheless, all of the Walt Disney shorts are still great and are artistic masterpieces in my mind. Since the inception of the Walt Disney Treasures series, I have waited for the chance to enjoy these again at my leisure, and in their uncensored forms in which they were meant to be seen. The wait is finally over, and it was well worth the wait. Now that I have had the chance to view this set thoroughly, I will try to convince you to pick this up if you haven't already.

First of all you get the first 36 shorts covering 1934-1941. Included here are some great and memorable ones, and some of my favorites were Modern Inventions(I remember this one from childhood), Donalds Nephews(gotta love those mischievous nephews always giving Donald a hard time), Hockey Champ, Officer Duck, and Truant Officer Donald. The last one is my favorite so far, mainly again because of his nephews' attempts to skip school and trying not to get caught. There is even a funny scene where Donald has caught them in the truck, and is trying to explain that they have their life ahead of them when they cover their ears. Enough about that one but it really cracked me up. But for the price you pay for this now you get a nice serving of the funniest duck in the world. Picture quality here is as good as it will ever be. It is crystal clear with bright, vivid colors. There is a little bit of grain in some parts, but that should be expected from shorts that are over 60 years old. The dvd menus are easily accessible, and also look great. As far as extras go, there aren't very many. There are 2 good easter eggs on disc 2, one being a short "The Volunteer Worker" stressing the importance of volunteering. Also on the second disc is "The Man Behind the Duck" which takes an interesting look at the man who brought the voic of Donald Duck to life--Clarence "Ducky" Nash. It is short but it is a nice extra and it is always nice to see what goes on behind the scenes in bringing these great pieces to the screen. And finally the packaging. It, like the rest of the Treasures series, comes in a nice collectable metal tin. The number no longer comes imprinted on the can, but rather on a certificate of authenticity located inside the dvd case itself. Also included is a nice lithograph depicting the theatrical poster of Donald's Vacation. One thing about the certificates: I received two different ones in my copy of Tomorrowland, and heard reports of some getting duplicates in other sets. It would be terrible for some not to get the certificate, but hopefully this is not a widespread problem. And as far as the lack of extras here, don't worry. We will probably get a volume 2, maybe a third in the future and I expect those to have the really good extras.

So to sum it up, this is a very nice set. If you want to own a piece of animation history, the pick this set up before it runs out in stores(there are only 165,000 issued). For what you get here for about 25 dollars, it is worth getting before prices on Ebay and Amazon increase because of the rarity of them. This is an impressive set and my personal favorite of them all. It is a great addition to any DVD collection, and I am certainly glad it is part of mine now to enjoy whenever I want to.

Summary: Red Faced Steam Eared Qwacky Donald at his best!!
Review: Absolutely great family fun. My kids love this DVD set. Since we are fortunate to own all the Treasures released to date, this is one of the sets watched more than the others. As an adult I find myself laughing out loud along with the kids. I could not find any special hidden items yet such as clicking on the cane in Mickey Mouse II or clicking on Davy Crockett's hat on the second disk of that set. Yes there are hidden things on these DVDs and part of the fun is finding them. June 1, 2004

Summary: Quack Attack
Review: Ah, Donald- the lovable cartoon duck who always seems to get the short end of the stick. Finally he gets what he deserves- a Treasures release just for him! Here we find Donald's hillarious shorts from 1936 to 1941 in all their unedited glory, plus his 1934 debut, The Wise Little Hen. However, there are two small problems (Aw, phooey!). First, there is a drought of bonus features- just one featurette and a few Easter Eggs. But that will most likely be made up for on the next volume. Secondly, Leonard Maltin pops up with an un-PC warning- er, introduction- anytime there is anything even mildly offensive in the short to follow. How politically correct does Disney have to be?!?!? However, these two boo-boos shouldn't keep you from purchasing this wonderful collection of early Donald shorts.

Oh, that's very, very cool! ~ Donald Duck

Summary: Terrible news!
Review: Buena Vista is planning (or maybe has planned) to release the Treasures in May 2004, instead of December... it looks like it's not a rumor....

What a shame! :(

Summary: The best Disney character of all time
Review: By my title you should be able to guess that Donald Fauntleroy Duck is my favorite Disney character. While he is quick-tempered and often violent, his short war-time films and those with Chip 'n' Dale are among the best cartoons ever produced. I can't say enough "thanks" to Leonard Maltin for his ability to get these released. I only hope that there will be a volume two in the future. For those who are sorely disappointed by the garbage running all day, every day on the cartoon network or Nickelodeon, you won't be disappointed by any animated short that features Donald Duck!

Summary: Donald is definitely the best
Review: Donald Duck IMHO is the best ,and this DVD opens a door which was closed for decades.. You can see all the films that Donald started in ..and more. Never did Donald duck have a DVD dedicated only for him. Great if you love this little angry duck.

Summary: Donald Duck in DVD
Review: Finally the waiting is (almost) over!, in December we are going able to get this wonderful collection.

A congratulation to Leonard Maltin because he can persuade Disney Company to release those "Treasures" unedited... by the way, those sets (including all those in the past two waves) are for collector and animation buffs, it's somehow irritating find reviews from parents that are angry against the Goofy collection because that included "No Smoking" and "tomorrow we diet"... it's because those bad reviews (and complains in the Disney Consumer service) that WD company had not released, until now, "Fantasia" uncensored and "Song of the South".... if you think that those uncensored shorts are offensive, please buy any of the direct-to-video sequels that WDC releases from time to time...

INFORMATION ABOUT WALT DISNEY TREAURES WAVE 4

Take this as a rumor, but the following are probably the sets for the next year

-Mickey Mouse in Black and White Volume II

-Assortment Set (to include BEN AND ME and DONALD IN MATHMAGIC LAND)
-Mickey Mouse Club
-The Complete Pluto

(courtesy of dcap3 from the animationshow forum ;) )

It's a shame that the "Chronological Donald" vol. 2 is not presented in this future wave.... i would be change the "Assortment Set" for another Donald volume, only time will tell... also, where is "Silly Simphonies Vol. 2"?

Summary: Disney's Lovable Duck Gets His Due
Review: Finally, Disney's greatest character gets the spotlight! Donald is the everyman-just a regular guy that has to put up with the travails of everyday life. Whether it's a wild animal or an inanimate object that raises his ire, Donald keeps the viewer laughing with his lovable voice and temperamental antics. This volume features Donald's debut in "The Wise Little Hen" and all his starring shorts from 1936's "Donald and Pluto" to 1941's "Chef Donald". It also includes a short piece on Donald's original voice Clarence "Ducky" Nash, photo stills and memorabilia stills, and introductions and commentary by Leonard Maltin. The easter eggs that I've found include a short 1940 short "The Volunteer" and two excerpts from "The Reluctant Dragon". It would have been nice if the DVD also included all of Donald's shorts in which he wasn't in the starring role, such as "Lonesome Ghosts" and "Orphan's Benefit" among others, but this is still one of the best collections of any kind that has been put together. I can't wait for the second volume, which will probably feature all of Donald's wartime shorts, to come out. It'll definitely be worth the wait, just like this set was. Now if Disney releases the 39 episode Quack Pack on DVD, all Donald Duck fans will have years of Donald viewing pleasure.
