Summary: an unforgetable adventure, this one will take you there
Review: i was 6 years old when i watched this film for the first time, now i am 26 and can still remember the unforgetable title of this film. i am looking forward to viewing the film again as an adult and share it with my four year old niece. for those who say this film is too gruesome hey thats life. i would also like to recomend another film for you "THE SECRET OF NIMH" a great animation about rats. if you like rabbits or rats these are the classics to see.

Review: Watership down the book was as good as it got. What the hell did they think they were doing??? Look at the movie, it's violent, ugly, almost scary. The book is beautiful, sad, and for all ages. Get a life you stupid producers.

Summary: Great film, a classic
Review: This animated film is definately a classic-and I would agree with Leonard Maltin-one of the best non-Disney animated films of all time. The only complaint I have is the story is abbreviated, and quite different from the Richard Adams novel. I would like to see this re-done at some point with some of the key plot-lines and characters reintroduced. Of course it would be hard-if not impossible-to capture the magic from the pages of Mr. Adams' novel. Still, this version of the movie is a valiant effort, and quite entertaining as well.

Summary: WELL WORTH LOOKING AT, NO MATTER WHAT THE AGE .
Review: I saw this film as kid, way back in the late '70s or whenever it was first released. An unforgettable adventure story (as described in the synopsis), which has stuck in my mind ever since. Tried in vain, for a long time to get a copy of this flick and delighted eventually to get one. As good seeing it again, after all those years as the first time, although it seemed longer and sadder, the first time round. I particularly liked the seasonal changes on the English countryside, depicted on this film, through animation.

Summary: excellent film, NOT FOR CHILDREN!
Review: Don't let the description of 'rabbit adventures' fool you, this is *not* a children's film. The adventures are not simply about bunnies, but is rife with rich metaphors and includes a clairvoyant rabbit who predicts a foreboding future for the rabbit civilization. Don't get me wrong, there are some more lighthearted sections. . . including a laughable sea gull. Beautifully created in the style of dark water colors, the animation provides well-done interpretation of the book. It's one of my favorite films, but almost terrifying and very engrossing for most adults, my friend saw it when she was a kid though. . . One animated scene alluding to death is accompanied by a beautiful song by Art Garfunkel called 'Sad Eyes', my friend cried (so did i). The introductory fable scene is neat, too. Many thanks to my High School friend Nathan who introduced it to me.

Summary: An animated classic!
Review: A group of Rabbits seek a new home in England to a special place called "Watership Down" but unfortunately there is some danger like dogs, cats and some enemy rabbits.Splendid and brilliant animated British-Canadian drama based on Richard Adam's brilliant novel. The animation is quite good for it's time, there is some bloody violence enough though it's rated "PG" and the music score is just one of the best i've heard. This is truly a must see animated flick! also listen for the voice of John Hurt. Also recommended: " The Last Unicorn", " The Secret of NIMH", " Wizards", " Grave of the Fireflies", " The Flight of Dragons", and " The Hobbit".

Summary: My review
Review: I first watched the movie on TV way back in May 1979 when I was 9 years old. I fell in love with it. Even after all this time, it is still the very best animated movie I've ever seen (and I've seen alot of them since!) and one of the best movies I've seen in my whole life. I love it because it does not go the "Disney" path, as mots modern animated movies go now. One thing I love it is that there's only got one song in it, and unlike Disney movies, the characters don't burst into song every 5 minutes, so making it a marvellous ride from start to finish. When the one song does appear, it appears at the right time and is used in the right scene for the abosutely maximum effect. And animators are not afraid to make animated movies darker and more violent as well, so telling a richer and more relastic view of the world around us. I wish more animated movies did this.
And one last thing, "Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel is one of my all time favorite songs. It is just so sappy and dark. Particually in the spot where it's used. It was only in 2004 that I found a song more sappy and dark than this. And that song came only by pure luck!
It's a pity that not many young people today see this stuff now. If they did they might get to see that there's a whole world of animated movies beyond the usual dumb-downed Disney stuff.

Summary: Lacks the power of the book. I was disappointed...
Review: They cut so much out of the book that what's left does not flow very well and is quite confusing. It loses all of power in my opinion. I really enjoyed the book though. I'm hoping that somebody comes along and makes another movie that includes enough of the book that the story is more powerful as the book is.

Summary: Some movies are ageless
Review: This is one of those movies which can stand the test of time, almost 30 years after it was released.
For those of us who saw this movie when it was still considered new, in the late 70's and even into the early 80's, this may bring you some feelings of nostalgia, as you ponder over the possible messages of this movie, and how things have changed since those possibly carefree days.
By today's modern animation standards, the hand-drawn animation in this movie might be considered crude or rough. The style of animation seems to be deliberate, and even seems to bring a little more life to the story.
I'd also say that in today's 'touchy-feely' society, this movie might not be considered appropriate for children under the ages of 10.
If I have a single complaint about this DVD, it's with the sound production. The audio track is extremely poor quality. I had to max the volume, and even ended up turning on sub-titles.
