Summary: Me Brian say, "this movie good!"
Review: Is "Transformers: The Movie" a crass marketing ploy or an epic tale of good versus evil? Well, you decide. Really, though, it's a little of both. I grew up in the '80's, when "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" were basically THE cartoon series, and even as an adult this movie still holds up pretty well. There's a little bit of everything here. For those with short attention spans, the movie throws plenty of flickering images and bright, pretty colors at you, with the obligatory fight scene every five minutes or so. There's an epic fight scene early on between Optimus Prime and Megatron that ranks as one of the top one-on-one battles in cinematic history, right up there with Bruce Lee versus Chuck Norris in "Way of the Dragon" and Luke Skywalker against Darth Vader in the last two "Star Wars" movies (okay, I'm exaggerating a bit now). The plot involves more of the age-old battle between the noble Autobots and the not-so-noble Decepticons, with the evil planet-devouring transformer Unicron thrown in as a sort of super villain. The movie introduces a number of new characters (or the cynical might say new action figures), including Unicron; the sinister Quinticons; the noble Hot Rod, later to become the new Autobot leader as Rodimus Prime; and Galvatron, the new incarnation of Megatron. Of course, the movie is probably worth owning for the soundtrack alone; there are songs on there so overblown they make Journey sound like Alice in Chains. If you're an '80's animation fan, you need this one.

Summary: You can't kill Optimus Prime......
Review: This movie is an absolute must. From the excellent, excellent soundtrack to the exciting climactic battle in which Autobot and Decepticon ally to save Cybertron.

My only problem is the wholesale slaughter of all the best characters (most of them Autobots), including Starscream and Optimus Prime. Several long running characters don't even have the honour of an on-screen death...

Aside from that, this movie can only be described by one word:

Ace. :-)

Summary: Quite possibly the best action cartoon series ever...
Review: First of all, let me point out that the movie does in fact tie into the whole transformers story. It is the link between G1 and G2, and introduces Galvatron, Cyclonus, and his minions. You will see the deaths of many pivotal characters, such as Optimus Prime, Starscream, and others.

It is obviously somewhat of a children's movie, however, that doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it too! I'm only 14, but I do remember the airings of the old G1/G2 transformers, and how cool they were. I also had a good portion of the toys, which however I mostly lost :(

This is definitely a must-have movie for any transformers fan or anyone wanting to remember what they used to watch. Some of the dialogue is a bit childish, but most of it is quite cool, and there is that wholesome goodness of 80s cartoons :)

Review: If you grew up watching the series Transformers....the movie is a must see. This is probably the best movie to a cartoon series every created. The only problem i had with it was during the television episodes nobody ever got killed and on the movie...

Summary: Transformers on DVD
Review: If you haven't seen Transformers the Movie, now's your chance to own it on DVD. This is a must if you're collecting all the episodes, as it comes straight after season 2, and creates an opening for season 3. Megatron is heavily damaged from 1 on 1 fight with Optimus Prime, so Unicron gives him a new body. Megatron becomes Galvatron and destroys Starscream for trying to become the new Decepticon leader. At the same time Optimus Prime ceases to function, and passes the Matrix on to Ultra-Magnus. The battle continues, only now it's not Megatron VS Optimus Prime, but Galvatron VS Ultra-Magnus.

Buy this, as it will give you knowledge of more Transformers characters in the one film than any episode by itself.
I still haven't seen all the episodes, but I'm gonna buy all the Seasons that Rhinovideo release on DVD, hurry up Rhino, I'm hungry.

100% TF fan

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: I can still remember going to see this movie over sixteen years ago. I remember the excitement of seeing all the new characters being introduced, the surprise at seeing so many old favorites killed, and the chills I felt as Optimus Prime died. It was so much more than "just a cartoon", then and now. My interest in Transformers has never waned, and I've never lost any of the excitement I felt for watching this movie.

While mostly action, there is a depth to this work that so many other movies would love to claim to have. And it's fun. I loved the battle sequences and the bits of humor and the music. I also own the soundtrack and, like the movie, I have enjoyed it constantly.

Of course, it's not perfect. It includes some of the flubs and inconsistencies that were a constant with the series, but none of these things detracted from enjoying the movie.

Maybe the one negative I have with the movie is that it led to the poor third (and final) season of the series. It's ironic that a movie that so many fans consider an amazing piece of work was followed by a season that was generally considered so weak.

Overall, an amazing piece of animation with excellent characters and stories that can be enjoyed over and over again. More, much more than just a cartoon, it's a work that is both a lot of fun and will make you want more. And against all odds, nearly two decades later the Transformers line is still going on.

Summary: A Classic Masterpiece
Review: This movie is my personal favorite of all time. It's a children's cartoon with very mature overtones. It's set to the greatest representation of awesome '80s music. Whether or not you're a child of the '80s it's enjoyable for all.
It's a classic tale of the triumph of good over evil, even in the shadow of what seems like defeat, and the rise of an unsuspecting yet dedicated and capable unlikely hero. Throughout the show there was a lesson of accepting different types of people and trusting, yet not being naive. If you're looking for a wholesome enjoyable family movie or you're just looking for some personal entertainment, this is definately the best choice.
