Review: Tron was a great movie when it came out - it had a great look and since the computers/video game thing was so new, it was just so creative! All in all this isn't a GREAT movie. There's certainly better stories, etc. But late Friday night, when you're feeling a little wacky - TRON is always a great watch. Neat special effects - and it's worth it just to watch the speed cycles scene. Fun! Down with Master Control!!

Summary: Great Effects, Flawed Story
Review: I saw this film in the theater back in '82, when it was first released. Ever since then, I would occasionally watch it on video tape, and cringe over some of the worst pan-and-scan I have ever seen done on a film. Now TRON is available on DVD in a widescreen format, and I'm enjoying it again. The missing star is still for a weak story, but if you are aiming for a copy of this film, avoid pan-and-scan. Get this version!

Review: All in all, a landmark film. Very impressive and entertaining. Many little details that film reviewers seem to continually miss. A must see film (especially for bitheads).

While not as complete as the Laserdisc version, this is definitely superior to the scratched and gritty reel that Disney used for the VHS version.

I was very disappointed that the extra footage and concept art sections were missing from the DVD.

To correct a previous review, it should be noted that the character RAM does correspond to a character in the film. Note the scene where the programmer in the cubicle next to Alan asks him if he can have some of his popcorn. That's him.

As well, Peter (the guy who watched Dillenger's office for him while he was at the CES) is the assistant you see on the Bridge of Sark's ship.

The MPC was not replaced with a kinder, gentler MCP. What you saw was the true form of the MCP -- without all of the aquired power (kind of a tip of the hat to The Wizard of OZ).

Keep in mind that -- technically -- this is not a Disney film. Disney simply supplied the financial backing and the studio space for this feature.

Summary: Great Movie on DVD and it was made in 1982!
Review: Dvd really captures the special effects used in this movie. The neon colors are amazing as are most of the other effects considering this movie was made in 1982. The DD sound is good too. An all round good sci-fi (?) flick. I really thought the motorcyle vs tank battle really captured the arcade effects of the time.

Summary: --Great Movie / (Somewhat) Disappointing DVD--
Review: --I'm a big fan of this wonderful film, and recomend that people buy it. At the same time I'm disappointed (once again) by the Disney presentation.

--On May 14th I saw TRON in 70mm at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood (the 'real' way it was meant to be seen). When I played this DVD on my system two things struck me.

--#1 The sound is near perfect! It retains a very good dynamic range, making dialog easy to understand, and special effects sound great. I would also like to point out that the sound is not 5.1, as the package is labled. (It's either 5.0 or 4.1)

--#2 The picture is quite a bit different than I remembered it. In the theater the effects looked like computer generated images (CGI), but on DVD they look animated, as if drawn by hand. I also noticed in the theater that scenes shot "in the real world" had a tint to them. (For example, Flynn's arcade is tinted red, Dillinger's office is tinted greenish, and Encom's "laser room" has sort of a blue tint.) This is the way it was intended but seems to have been lost on the DVD. It's also worth noting that this disk is letterboxed, not anamorphic widescreen. Over all, the picture quality is about average for a movie of its age on DVD.

--The real disappointment is the lack of extras. This is absolutely inexcusable! Disney could have easily carried them over from their rediculously priced laser disk CAV special edition. I must say, after having seen the deleted "love scene", they should have left it in the film! I miss it every time I see TRON.

Review: Just after the light cycles exit the game grid and that guy with the v on his forhead is yelling "GET THEM" check out the right hand side of the screen...... if you look closely you can see a pacman game! :)

Summary: I bought a DVD Player just for this film...
Review: I first saw this film, when I was about 12 years old, I had just recieved my first color computer a Sinclair ZX Spectrum (UK). I could not believe the computer graphics of the film, and I begged my father to take my friends and I to see Tron when it first came out.

I was in a shop in Vancouver, and I saw Tron for sale in the DVD format. I could not believe my eyes, I have been looking for TRON for years on VHS, but it has been out of circulation for 12 years in the UK. I bought Tron that very moment and a DVD player, and I have to say the film still sent shivers up my spine, even-though I knew exactly what was going to happen.

The color and the sound were grea, (I know no AC3 or DTS) but that without, it was amazing to watch all over again. Buy this movie its fantastic. It did not seem dated at all...

Summary: Excellent film and finally an excellent DVD to match it!
Review: My original review (for the other DVD release of this movie, and I'm glad so many of you found it helpful) pleaded for Disney to get its act together and release a version more in tune with the LaserDisc which was awesome. Instead they had released a really bad version at a very high price. Finally, with the 20th Anniversary edition, they got their act together and boy did they.

I had waited years to watch Tron in widescreen again (not having had the pleasure of watching the famed LaserDisc version). and the previous DVD was a disappointment in so many ways. I mean, Tron is one of the best movies of all time, a true classic in every sense of the word. It is the first film to use Computer Animation and Graphics, EVER. The story is interesting and explores some very interesting concepts both philosofical and otherwise. The acting is not bad if at times some parts may be a bit cheesy but still excellent. The story is less than perfect but incredibly enjoyable and in many ways (certainly not all of them and certainly not the deleted scene) has stood the test of time.

This DVD is what all of us have waited for, a historically improtant film in all its glory filled with awesome features we had been waiting so many years to see again or for the first time. I highly recommend buying this 20th Anniversary edition, it is not only a CG classic and true ground breaking (setting) film, but a highly enjoyable one to boot. Did I mention it was finally worth its price?
