Summary: Plays loose with the book... Still lots of fun
Review: The original novel written by Alexandere` Dumas is basically thrown out the door for this Disney version. It really doesn't follow the book at all, save for the basic plot, and characters. Yet, for me, it is still a good movie. The film has plenty of action, humor, and solid direction for me to recommend the film. The acting is way over the top and there is plenty of scene chewing going on. The camaraderie and the fun factor make it work for me. I should also note that the film doesn't take itself seriously and this allows everyone involved to have a good time in the film and that translates to the viewer. I don't think it would have worked any other way. There have been so many filmed versions of this tale over the years, that every once in a while, its nice to lighten up a bit. If you want to have some fun, and forget your cares, then this film fits the bill. Tim Curry as the villian in the movie and you can't go wrong

The DVD has little in the way of extras. There is a brief production featurette and the "All For One" music video. Despite a few flaws, this is a fine film for the young and old alike. Have fun.

Summary: Not the best
Review: i used to think this was the best movie in the world..........but I have found ones that go along with the book better, while this, though funny, has almost no connection with the book beyond characters.

Summary: Amusing!
Review: Yes, they strayed far from the book and it is, in typical Disney fashion, kinda on the cheesy side but still...this is a good movie! It's funny and entertaining. (and Kiefer Sutherland is hot!) Oliver Platt is hilarious as is Tim Curry. No, this won't provoke any deep thoughts, but you'll laugh and be entertained, and that's what it's all about.

Summary: Swashbuckling fun
Review: I always liked this movie but when watching it recently on HBO I came to realize that it's sort of a Young Guns version of the 3 Musketeers. I'm sort of surprised Emilio Estevez wasn't in it too, lol. Well despite that I still really find it enjoyable, the cast is still a lot of fun. The underrated Kiefer Sustherland (Flatliners, 24) especially is very good, as are Michael Wincott and Tim Curry as the villains. Oliver Platt (Lake Placid, The West Wing) is probably at his most entertaining as well. There's a lot of swashbuckling fun that is bound to entertain you as well. This film is superior to the most recent The Musketeer almost in every way.

Summary: terrible
Review: this was one of the worst films i have had the misfortune to watch ever!the plot is weak, the actors act like school children and the actual story line has gone far astrey from the real book. all in all it was a complete, boring dissapointment and i suggest that this film should be thrown in the nearest garbage truck.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: The first time I watched this movie, I was comparing it to the book, and I was dissapointed. The next time I watched it, I watched with the attitude that it was a unique story, an original, and not another form of the book. Now it is my favorite movie. Who can watch and not appreciate the talent displayed by the actors to make the story come to life, the action, the perfect mix of everything a movie should have! It is really a fantastic movie.

Summary: In many ways, better than the book
Review: Any resemblance between the plot of this charming movie and that of the classic book is, well, little. Who cares! What the movie lacks in the darkness, the Francophilia, and (frankly) the plodding pace of the novel is more than compensated by a terrific cast, a coherent story, and beautiful visuals--including the aforementioned cast. Like "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (in many ways), you must think of this as a film based on characters you know, rather than as a film based on a story you know. The whole family will enjoy it, even if it won't give the kids a shortcut for their book reports.

Summary: Great
Review: This Movie is not like the book exactly but it has a group of great performers + great action + comedy. What More could you want from a movie? It is just an enjoyable movie.

Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I have never read Alexandre Dumas's book.
I have never seen any of the other versions of this movie.

You may say that those last two sentences explain why I liked this movie so much, or some who have read all my other reviews can chalk it up to my love of medieval adventure swordfight films. All I know was that I was feeling really bored and apathetic at the time I saw it last week and it brightened me up immediately.

It started doing this by making Oliver Platt a musketeer, something I never would have imagined. Then it took a good score (and a song with Sting, Rod Stewart, and that other guy whose name I didn't get) and put them in the movie. Then it added lots of swordfights, which were good enough. The plot may not have been like the original, but it was viable and it flowed well. The actors were good, they came through in their roles. It was an enjoyable film.

P.S. Due to frequent suggestions made on other reviews on this site, I will rent the previous versions of this film and watch them. I can take a hint: they're good.
