Summary: Still one of my favorite movies but the DVD lacks in goodies
Review: This one star rating is in no way an indication of what I think of the actual movie. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I rented so many times I could've literally owned about 10 or 15 times over on VHS. When I finally decided to buy it I couldn't find it anywhere so all I could do was wait for the DVD. It has the bare minimum of extras on this DVD. Trailers, behind the scenes and that's about it. I want to be able to watch the movie with commentary. I want Lucas and Howard interviews. I want DELETED SCENES and OUTTACKES! Every movie has deleted scenes and outtakes. Not a single deleted scene is in this DVD. Apparantly every DVD now adays is automatically a 'Special Edition' simply because it is now on DVD rather than VHS. If one is going to call it 'Special Edition' they'd better deliver more than trailers. In the end though I'm glad I did buy the DVD even if I was dissapointed with the lack of goodies; I'm simply happy to have the movie (and on DVD rather than VHS no less). If you love the movie buy the DVD but don't expect lots of goodies to come along with the 'Special Edition' label.

Review: When this movie first came out, I fell in love with it. I was just a little girl but I knew this would be ONE of my favorite movies of all time. That's why, when I saw it, I had to get it.

Summary: fanciful and delighting tale
Review: i love fairy tales and other folk stories, so it is no surprise that i would enjoy this fantasy film. i believe it to be one of the best of the genre ever made -- the sets, costumes and natural landcapes evoke a sense of history, and in this way connect the narrative to our own world. the script is accessible enough for a general audience, without pandering, and the cast is fully engaged in their various roles. the classic struggle between good and evil is given little twists, and surprise/expectation are flirtaciously played with. now that the lord of the rings is out i hope that fantasy will begin to gain a wider, more loyal audience -- it is nice to see that not all films of this type must be "dumbed down" to the conan level. the great fantasy classics, in my opinion, are "the dark crystal," "labyrinth," "the neverending story" (part I), "willow," "the lord of the rings," "legend," "snow white: a tale of terror" with siguorney weaver, and the first installment of the "highlander" movies. i would disagree with those who claim that fantasy films are simply excursions into daydreaming -- i believe that they do speak to moral responsibility, and thus cannot be written off as simple tales with no social/intellectual weight. the purpose of the tale is to teach us what we should know about social interactions, or remind us of what we already knew but had forgotten in our mad rush of modern living: be kind, be honest, and never stop believing in the power of goodness.

Summary: Copycat fantasy movie
Review: "Willow"tries to be just like great fantasy films like
"Hobbit",and "Neverending Story".Unfortunately,"Willow"
falls flat on its face.The story intended to be good,but
it kept plodding along,taking forever to get to certain parts
of the storyline(the 25-minute scene where the soldiers
were turning into pigs,the 20-minute scene where the brownie
drank beer,the 30-minute scene of the 2 sorceresses fighting,
etc).Perhaps if the movie-makers kept the storylines shorter,
this movie would'nt been more enjoyabel.There are a couple of
of hilariuos moments,but they only last about a couple of minutes.The special effects are okay,and the evil queen
was only half-convincing.Advice:Rent this movie.

Summary: As good as I remember it
Review: This movie is not only part of my childhood, but it's also one of the very few well done fantasy movies. For those of you who enjoy the Lord Of the Rings, until now this was the closest you could get to it in a live action movie. A great part of nostalgia and a great movie on its own.

Review: I went to see this movie when it came out in theaters so long ago. Val Kilmer had me laughing when he knew how to swing a sword but tripped and fell after rolling into the snow. Also when he got hit with that love powder the brownies had and started spouting love poems to Sorcha instead of getting the baby. Oh, by the way, I loved the way the baby was able to cry on cue and give the right look at the right time. I laughed when she got sick all over the know-it-all town counsel member who appointed himself leader. There was nothing worse then having to fight Bavmorda's army and the two-headed dragon that developed from the dying troll. If I were a kid that would have scared me. My sister told me that this scene scared a child so bad in the theater where she worked, that the family had to ask for a refund. I loved the fight scene between Razel Queen Bavmorda, especially when Razel used Dalindria's wand to make her spin and bounce off the castle walls. I know this had to hurt. This movie impressed me so much that I had to have the book itself and the other three that followed. I highly recommend this movie to ages 9 and up but be cautious on the dragon scene if you take anyone younger.

Summary: Adventure for the whole family.
Review: Willow is one of those movies that takes you back in time to when you were innocent and still believed in a world of magic. It is the latest in a string of 80's adventure movies brought to DVD and is, arguably, the most over due. For those of you who haven't scene this movie… it is a tale about a baby that is destined to bring about the end of the evil rule of Queen Bavmorda and those who will fight to protect that baby. There are glorious battles between the minions of evil and the knights of good, there is a touch of romance, and there is magic. The scenery is stunning, the acting is pretty good and the story line has something for everyone. Children will love the film for the playful nature of many of the characters. Parents will love the film for the unlikely romance and the fun of seeing Val Kilmer in what I believe to be his best performance. This is probably one of the best family movies to come out of the eighties. The DVD version doesn't boast very many extra features, but the color and sharpness of the film definitely make it worth owning. The sound is pretty good, but nothing compared to some other DVD's out there. For the most part this DVD is worth buying for the sheer fact of having the movie.

Review: THANK YOU GEORGE LUCAS! I have long awaited to own this film. When I saw it in 1989, I fell in love with it. But then, they discontinued the film, and I was unable to own a copy. I had to go to the local Mr. Movies rental, and I ended up renting it until the VHS wore out. This left me with nothing. I have long awaited a DVD and finally! Lucas pulls Willow out of the treasure chest and blew the dust off the cover as he converted it onto DVD. I bought this the day it came out and watched it twice in one night. I was blown away by how much cleaner and sharper the picture is. The sound is fantastic! I was sweating when I was watching the DVD widescreen version for the first time on my TV. The featurette on CGI Morphing is very interesting. Sure, the 1989 version of the making of the film was a bit cheesy lazy, but nevertheless fun to watch also.
Willow itself is one of the best fantasy films ever made, and to be put onto a fully loaded DVD only makes it that much better.
The carefully portrayed acting, the heart-warming score, the eye-stunning visuals, and the tear dropping cinemetography turn the experience of watching Willow on DVD into the perfect fantasy adventure.
