This DVD is a great bargain for the price. This DVD contains rare cartoons of the original Tom & Jerry. If you are a Fleischer Studio fan you will really enjoy these cartoons.

Summary: Some Real Rarities - Do Not Pass This DVD Up!
Review: Here's a DVD that might make you might want to think twice about before tossing it back into the discount bin at your local dollar store.

This disc does not contain the MGM cartoons featuring the famous cat-and-mouse team but rather twisted and bizarre cartoons from the small New York studio of Van Beuren from the early 1930s featuring a Mutt and Jeff-like duo of the same name. This compilation brings you nine of these rare cartoons featuring the offbeat twosome including some real classics like "Piano Tooners", "A Spanish Twist", "A Swiss Trick", "Plane Dumb", "Pots and Pans", "In the Bag", "Pencil Mania", "The Rockteers", and "Hook and Ladder Hokum" (renamed "A Fireman's Life" here - notable for being the only Van Beuren cartoon directed by the one and only Frank Tashlin).

So try and not pass up this DVD - especially if you're a real hardcore animation buff, like me.

Review: It is one of those old cartoons were characters don't speak and the humour is very infantile...all of this into an unattractive display and not creative enough for the nowadays viewer

Summary: Good Black&White Toons
Review: These are cartoons from the early 1930s. If you're only interested in new color stuff, you probably won't be happy with these. However, if you're interested in old entertainment, you'll love this set. I'd never heard of this Tom and Jerry until I saw the DVD. It's not the cat and mouse.

What I find interesting is how risque some might find some of these. The Piano Tooners offers shadow views of a rather large nude opera singer and a prancing Bettie Boop type chorus girl complete with garters. Obviously pre-Hays stuff. That being said, it's nothing really overt by today's standards. Just good 1930s fun - and the sound tracks are great as well.

Well worth the couple bucks you might pay.
