Review: Princess Diaries is a great movie. I laugh a lot every time I see it!
Mia (Hathaway) is in high school and she is invisible to everyone but her best friend and her best friends brother! She has a crush on a popular guy who also sees her as invisible. Until Mia finds out she is a princess...she tries to keep this a secret but it ends up getting out and then everyone including the popular kids wants to hang with Mia!
You watch Mia go through the hard life of being in love and someone not loving her the same...Someone loving Mia and her being blind to it (Rooney's lead singer!) and best friend trials. It is full of comedy and romance and was well made. Mia tries hard to have a foot popping experience but finds out what true love really is in the end!
The music to this movie is great and this movie has a great moral what goes around comes around. I don't think you will be disappointed when you watch this movie!

Summary: A decent film for the whole family to see
Review: The Princess Diaries is a charming film about a 10th grader girl Mia living in San Francisco, whose life was turned upside down when her grandmother came for a visit. It turns out that the long estranged grandma is the queen of a small European country, and she came to ask Mia to claim the throne as the princess of Genovia.A teenage version of Cinderella/Pretty Woman fairy tale, it's really quite sweet and funny. Unfortunately the characters are a bit shallow, but it probably won't be a big issue for the kids. Its wonderful to see Julie Andrews on the big screen again, and her performance as Queen Clarisse is convincing and regal. Anne Hathaway's portrayal of the outcast Mia is adequate, her character starts out believable as she struggles to choose whether to claim her right as the princess or to continue her life in San Francisco, but somewhere in the middle she quickly became superficial and at times immature. Hector Elizondo plays Joseph, the chief of security to the queen, a good supporting role with not enough screen time to develop the character more. The plot for the Princess Diaries is easy for young kids to follow, and it touches on a lot of issues most high schoolers should be able to identify with. I did find the romances introduced in the movie to be rather unnecessary and often distracting, the time devoted to those scenes could've been better used to give more depths to the relationship between Clarisse, Mia and her mother Helen. Overall a good film to take the family to see, the humor should be enjoyable for children and adults alike.

Summary: Family Fun for All--Princess Diaries
Review: The Princess Diaries is a true delight for family members of all ages. It is rated G (really) thus you can take any age to see it without fear of being surprised by content that is more suitable for older persons. Don't let the rating, teenagers, keep you from seeing this film. It is humorous and every girl's fantasy. This is basically a story of a clumsy, awkward, adolescent girl, living with her bohemian artist mother, who discovers her paternal grandmother is a queen, her father was a prince, thus making her a princess and the only heir to the kingdom of Genovia. The girl, Mia, and her grandmother make a pact. She comes for 2 weeks of "training" in all the social graces, etc. befitting a ruler and then she can decide if this is the life she wishes to live or not. Her answer will be graciously accepted. This is not as straight forward and as simple a movie as it appears. There are a few little twists, turns and surprises on the way to the decision. There are also a few lessons on friendship and what is truly important in one's life. Our entire family (ages 8, 9, 17, 25, and 48) enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Although it will not win an Academy award, it is quite an entertaining, charming, modern fairy tale. Don't miss it. Anne Hathaway (Mia) is funny, quirky, and masters the lip curl quite well in this film. Her clumsiness seems natural and she certainly cleans up well. Her transition from ugly duckling to beautiful swan is reminiscent of the late Audrey Hepburn. Julie Andrews is perfect in her role as the Queen of Genovia bringing just the right amount of sophistication and warmth to the role. Her scenes with Hector Elizondo (Joe) show subtle senuality and the warm fuzziness and comfort of an old and trusted friend. You know there is another story there that isn't being told. Their dance scene together can make you forget Miss Andrews was a singer. (Kids--she was Mary Poppins!) If you wish to see Miss Andrews in her true glory watch her as "Maria" in the movie, The Sound of Music. Other cast members who round out the story and do a great job are Terry Wayne (Clark,the hairdresser), Heather Matarazzo (Lilly) as Mia's best friend, Robert Schwartzman (Michael) who is Lilly's brother, and Patrick Richwood as the neighbor/writer. Mr. Robutusen. Mandy Moore also makes her film debut as one of the "beautiful people" preps who is also part of a singing trio at school.

Summary: A Delightfully Sweet Surprise
Review: This was a delightfully sweet surprise! The cinematography was lovely and the acting superb. Anne Hathaway is a lovely, talented girl and plays her part well as the first geeky Mia Thermopolis. As she is transformed throughout the movie, she never loses her wonderful and kind nature or her friendly spirit. Julie Andrews was well cast as Mia's grandmother, Queen Clarice of Genovia. The story begins with a peek into the somewhat average life of Mia Thermopolis, a geeky San Francisco misfit who lives with her single, artist mother in an old fire house that has been transformed into a fascinating home. She attends a private school that is paid for by her father, where she has only one friend. Lily, played by actress Heather Matarazzo, is a quirky, sweet girl whose wants to make a difference using her television show "Shut Up and Listen". Everyone at school makes fun of Mia or simply ignores her. Everyone accept for Lily and Michael, Lily's adorable but somewhat unique older brother played by Robert Shwartzman. Unfortunately, Mia doesn't notice Michael's admiration of her as she has eyes only for the school hot shot, Josh, played by Erik von Detten, who is dating Lana Fontana, the stuck school cheerleader played by pop singer Mandy Moore. Of course Josh doesn't even acknowledge that Mia even exists until one day ...
Nearing her 16th birthday, Mia suddenly receives a surprise visit from her grandmother and finds out that she may not be so normal as she first expected. Queen Clarice informs Mia that her recently deceased father was the only remaining blood heir to the throne of Genovia. Accept for Mia that is. Mia is next in line for the crown, but surprisingly she doesn't want it. Angry with her mother and grandmother for not telling her the truth about her family, Mia refuses to have anything to do with being a princess, until her mother encourages her to give Princess Lessons a try. Using all of her resources, Queen Clarice transforms Mia from a geeky klutz into a stunning beauty. This transformation only increases Michael's admiration for her, but when the word gets out that Mia is not only now gorgeous but also a princess, Mia heads into a boatload of trouble. As Mia deals with pressures at school, in her friendships, and her family, she must choose who are really her friends and what she must do with the rest of her life. This DVD also contains neat extras. You can watch several originally deleated scenes, a behind the scened featurett, as well as several movie trailers. It is beautifully displayed with soft music and pink roses blooming on the menu screens.
