Summary: Vivid Fantasy George Miller style
Review: I resisted the pig. It wasn't until last year that my girlfreind convinced me to watch Babe. I liked it! Pig in the City is a worthy follow up. George Miller (Mad Max, The Road Warrior) uses striking camera angles to get us into the world of animals. We see things from their perspective, and the world is just a little more vibrant. The clever use of computer graphics and puppets are used to good effect. This film is a little darker than the first and probably isn't for small children. In the opening scene, the farmer is almost killed by Babe! The city scapes are beautiful, sort of a cross between Sydney and New York. The new characters in this film are the chimpanzees, a Orangatan, and several dogs. They hole up in a hotel until the neighbors call animal control, then it's up to Babe to make the rescue. In a curious ending, Miller goes back to the drawing board and returns with Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome! The farmers wife straps herself to a bungie cord and springs back and forth from the sides of a domed room! All in all this was a fun distraction from the garbage Hollywood is churning out at an alarming pace. Good original fiction. I wonder when the next Mad Max will be out? Maybe it will be Mad Babe instead!

Summary: Genius...enthralling....breathtaking......
Review: What a wonderful movie. Leonard Maltin's review reveals his lack of insight. The film is not "superfluous"; it takes Babe to another place altogether from the first film; and that place is not "America", Lenny. If you open your eyes, you see that the city is an amalgam, a complex fantasy vision of the whole notion of "city" with all the fears and traumas that notion brings. This is a deeply felt, subtly nuanced fantasy that dares to look into the dark places, as all great stories do. I cannot classify this film as being for children or for adults; it is for people (though maybe not for overly literal people like Leonard Maltin). It makes you think, feel, laugh, cry and imagine--and that means it's great art. I can't even count the number of times I gasped out loud while watching this movie--gasped at the beauty and originality of it. Do not be frightened off by its narrow minded detractors. Babe will take you places you've never been. I only regret that I didn't see it on the wide screen.

Summary: Forget Disney--BABE is where it's at!
Review: I was so disappointed to learn that BABE: Pig in the City did not fare well at the Box Office, mostly because of negative accounts in the media proclaiming the film as "too scary" for children. For crying out loud, didn't Bambi's mother die? Every timeless fairy tale has some element of "evil" against which to showcase the goodness, and in this film, the goodness prevails and conveys several examples of how "a kind and steady heart" can mend some of the troubles in today's world.This movie is visually captivating, endearing, dramatic, and funny. There were times I forgot that animals don't *really* talk in real life. This is an original story (for a change) that will transcend time. It's one of my all-time favorites, and I much prefer it over the formulaic, merchandising-driven, annual Disney "instant classic."

Review: The freshness and wholesomeness of the first movie is noticeably lacking in the sequel. It is a very dark and depressing movie; almost the flipside of the original. Placing the primates and other animals in human clothing and having them perform 'tricks' is one of the lowest forms of entertainment. Totally degrading the animal and the viewer. The only good point in the movie is at the end when the chimps are allowed to 'act like chimps'. The first movie was unique and quite enjoyable for young and old alike. The second is a severe disapointment.

Review: This movie was even better than the first. The themes were more adult and the production value is obviously increased. Babe is more charming than ever, "if I had words...la, la la..."

Review: This film is a mark of genious. A film I suggest everyone see and share, adults and children. By far the best children's film I have seen, ever. It offers a true taste of reality for all, urban life is not as glamourous as it is usually presented, and Babe "gets wise" pretty fast.

Summary: Bound to Become A Classic!
Review: I've read the reviews that label this movie a little "dark", but isn't human nature a little dark as well? The messages are many without overbearing moralizing. A great flick for all ages, the story is thoroughly entertaining, the graphics are creative, the voice-overs are absolutely perfect for the characters --- can't come up with anything negative about this film. It will become a valued part of my DVD library, to be watched over and over again.

Review: Nearly every frame of this film is wonderfully fresh and visually engaging. It boldly displays a dozen times more creative vision than ninety-nine percent of the pap churned out by Hollywood, and is a showcase for the big studios to learn how to USE EFFECTS TO AUGMENT THE STORY! Sometimes sublime, sometimes zany, and always wildly original BABE: Pig in the City is one of the very best of the decade.
