Rating: Summary: A Childhood Treasure Review:
When I rediscovered this little gem only recently (around the 2004 Christmas holiday season), I fell in love with it all over again. This animation is unique among the Rankin/Bass holiday specials, in that it has more of a fairytale/folklore style story (Christmas is only a background theme). It is still very suitable for a Christmas special, but very enjoyable to watch anytime of the year. I remember having seen it on television years ago as a tiny child, but I welcome it into my life even now.
This program would be appropriate for children or adults who appreciate fantasy (or specifically Rankin/Bass animation).
Rating: Summary: Who's that nipping at your nose? Review: "Jack Frost" has always been one of my favorite Rankin/Bass Christmas specials. Because it was not aired as often as "Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer" or "Frosty the Snowman," there was always something special about it. It was more of a treat when I got to see it. Also, it had knights, castles and a steam-powered horse, which was a big bonus for me as a child. This is an animagic production, with stop-motion puppets instead of cell animation. The story is winter-focused rather than Christmas focused. Jack Frost, an invisible elf who can never participate in the joy he brings to the humans, falls in love with a human girl. He petitions Father Winter to grant him humanity and give him the chance to win her love. The villain of the story is Kublah Krause, the Cossack King. He gets the best song. "I'm Kublah Krause, I could have been a Shogun, but there are no Samurai around here, there's the rub, there's the rub..." The only holiday represented is Groundhog's Day, and the Groundhog himself (voiced by Buddy Hackett) makes an appearance. "I've got a day named after me, February 2..." Other characters include Holly the Snow Gypsy and Snip the Snowflake Cutter. This DVD is a fairly frill-free production, and contains only the main feature. It was produced for stores to put in their "bargain DVD" racks. Still, the quality is great and there is no other DVD version of "Jack Frost" available. A definite must-have for the holidays.

Rating: Summary: Classic Rankin and Bass, THE BEST!!! Review: I also grew up watcing Rankin & Bass Christmas cartoons. One of my top favorties is Jack Frost still to this day. I just LOVE IT!! I love how sweet and humble Jack Frost is, and not to mention how "human" he is too.
I am so happy this movie is now on DVD!! Now, I can share this story with my own child!
Oh, and yes it is a "love" story, but is endearing and memorable. You just can't be disappointed with this film. Like I said, Jack Frost is the BEST!!
Rating: Summary: This is one of my favorite winter movies. Review: I always enjoyed watching this movie. Kids today may not enjoy it as much as those of us that grew up with these movies. It's not an action packed adventure or a comedy. It's nice story about Jack Frost wanting to be human because he falls in love with a girl in a small town. I'll let you watch the movie for the rest of the story.
As a side note in response to the reviewer complaining that this movie does not focus on Christmas. There is a good reason for that. This movie takes place after Christmas. It is a story about winter and part of the story line is that the ground hog sees his shadow to extend winter. Last time I checked Ground Hog Day does not occur during Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Not for kids. Review: I grew up watching the Bass/Rankin holiday specials. They marked the beginning of the Christmas season and ramped up my anticipation for the big day. Without a doubt, Jack Frost is the best of the bunch. What a treat to find my special favourite available on dvd. This story lacks all the sugary sweetness and perfect endings of the other stop animation holiday specials. As a child I was deeply touched by Jack's all too human struggle with the true meaning of love and his ultimate sacrfice for it. Something about Rudolph and his pity party with Hermie always annoyed me. So if you are looking for something a little different, I would higly recommend this dvd.
Rating: Summary: I Finally Found This! Review: I love Rankin-Bass specials, and am so glad I got this one on DVD! Its typical animagic fair (Rudolph, Year without a Santa, etc), full of the humour, songs, magic and sentimentality that kids of all ages enjoy. Jack Frost wishes he could be human to win the love of a pretty girl. Father Winter grants his wish, and he has to win his lady-love from the evil Coassack-King, Kubla Kraus. I really like that this had a more realistic ending, instead of a "Fairy Tale" Happy one. If you are a fan of Rankin-Bass Holiday Specials, definately add this one to your collection!

Rating: Summary: A classic clever and touching show Review: This is one of the most creative childrens shows! My children and I watched it about 10 years ago and we all still watch it every year. It is thoughtful, funny, intelligent and very fun to watch. Kubla Kraus is the best, my son watches him and laughs every time. This is a keeper!!!! I am so happy that it is on DVD since our VHS recording is starting to fall apart. You will love this show!
