Summary: A Great Christmas Movie
Review: I saw this movie in HBO back in the 80's and we accidentally taped it. My brother and two sisters (now grown) still fight over who gets that video tape during Christmas. There was some bad reviews about the editing that was done on some parts but they were minor and although I noticed them.....nothing was taken from the holsumness of the movie. It is still one of my favorite movies during Christmas time. It is a classic. chadlmc@yahoo.com

Summary: A Family Christmas Classic
Review: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas has been a favorite holiday special to me and my family for many years. It reminds my mom of years gone by, and reminds my sister and I of the love that families share. It's a reminder of simpler times, when money may have been tight, but there was more than enough love to go around. It just doesn't feel like Christmas without Emmet Otter, and now that my sister has a beautiful baby boy, we look forward to sharing it with the next generation. Families everywhere can enjoy this special, and it will become a treasured Christmas classic for many, many years...like it already is in my family!

Summary: Great! ..... But why was it edited?
Review: Truly a classic Jim Henson Creation! I watched this program every holiday when it came on, and I'm still glad it comes on Nickelodeon for kids to carry on this classic. But why did they edit the great parts? It's still good, but like the old adage goes 'if it 'aint broke don't fix it'. It was fine left alone. I still advise anyone to get and share with their families. At the same time, for all of you who haven't seen this lovely creation yet,try to watch it on Nickelodeon so you will be able to see the unedited version(I hope they didn't edit it also). This program is not just good for the holidays, it's fun to watch even in the summer time! These cute little fuzzy creatures will have you and your family wishing you were in that little town of theirs, hanging out with them. Get it and bring back the fun and innocence of the 70's. You're guarranteed to love it!

Summary: Yes, it's a classic but......
Review: I got this video for Christmas a couple of years ago and was sooooooo thrilled! BUT..... some of the best scenes were cut out! I have a hard time watching it now because I know what is missing. If you have never seen it before it will become a family favorite!

Summary: Finally Found A Copy
Review: I can't believe it. I have been looking for this movie for years and was not aware that it was on video. I just kept hoping that HBO would air it again someday. This movie brought my family close together when I was a child. We would be so happy during the holiday season and stop all that we were doing in order to join together to watch this movie about love and perserverance. All ages will enjoy this movie. It's a must see movie and you are definitely doing yourself a diservice if you don't buy it today. This will keep you smiling for months after you watch it.

Summary: After all of these years...
Review: I first saw this movie on HBO in 1982. I was in 4th grade. I am now 26 years old and this movie has stayed with me all of this time and I finally ordered it to own it. This is a movie that is excellent for all ages and sure to stay with you for many many years.

Summary: I love Emmet Otter
Review: I was so sad when HBO stopped airing Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. My entire family (aunts and uncles and cousins)used to gather at Grandma's house, (we didn't have HBO on the farm), to watch Emmet Otter. I was so excited to find this video waiting for me on Christmas morning. This video really lifts your spirits and gets your toes tapping. A must have for any video collection

Summary: A Special Bond
Review: This movie presents a lovely view of a bond between a mother and her son. They don't let the fact that they are poor during the Christmas season get their spirit down. My favorite part is when Emmet and his mother are sliding down the old slide onto the frozen river and sing the song that was his father's favorite. It is a show that teaches people young and old that money is not what makes you happy. Love from family and friends is the key to happiness.

Summary: ...but what's missing?
Review: Christmas isn't Christmas without Emmet Otter's Jug Band, but this version appears to be missing a couple of scenes -- the version shown recently on Odyssey is missing them, too.

Ma's punchline to Mrs. Fox's back ("...I'd appreciate it if you could...fall off the dock!") is gone, and the scene where Ma and the Jug Band perform at the mayor's restaurant appears to cut off in the middle. That's all I noticed, but it's kind of disappointing.

Worth owning, though -- don't hesitate on this one!

Summary: Family Tradition
Review: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas has developed into part of our family's Christmas tradition. On Christmas Eve, trays of cheeses, cookies, beef stick, candies, and dips all prepared and readily accessible, the video begins. Everyone's attention is focused on the trip down the river as we meet the characters which will become part of our heart in the next hour. Adults and children alike begin to sing or hum with the characters as they perform the wonderful and enchanting songs by Paul Williams. This Jim Henson presentation is refreshing and inspires values of kindness, generosity, and thoughfulness for one another. Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas will leave a lasting impression and perhaps become part of your family's tradition as it did in our's.
