Summary: good but edited
Review: here is another muppet special from the 80's that is wonderful but has unfortunatly been cut. Don't get mewrong, it is still a good video and can be enjoyed by everyone (the only christmas thing is that it takes place during that time) I just wish it was in its whole like I remember it.

Summary: Best Jim Henson Project
Review: I first saw this Christmas special on cable tv years and years ago when I was in my early teens.. I am now 27 going on 28 and it still brings back memories.. I have just found it on tape after missing it for years. I grew up loving it and someday I want to be able to give my children the same enjoyment.

Summary: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas
Review: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas will always remain a classic in my book! This is a wonderful video for both the young and old. I wish that there were more creative puppetering in today's world. So much though and effort was put into each of the characters. There are valuable lessons to be learned in this story, something that seems to be lost in todays childrens programs. I highly recommend this video to anyone.

Summary: Best of the Muppets, Exceptional Holiday Production
Review: As a professional puppeteer myself, I can look at this production a bit differently than other viewers. I am sometimes critical of the manipulation and content of some Muppet productions, but Emmet Otter is one of the finest puppet creations by the Muppets or any other puppeteer I know. It departs for what can be called "Muppet cute" and, except for some brief sections of the talent show that are more typical Muppet, is a beautiful film. The music could not be better, the voice are perfection and the manipulation flawless. Normally the Muppets use hand, rod and mouth puppets, but there are sections of this production that also use marionettes (string puppets). Whenever there are long shots of the characters walking or skating on the ice, these are the marionettes. Everything about the production is of exceptional quality. There are wonderfully "quiet" sections that are delightful and add a lot to the tone of the story.

The story is one of the most uplifting and delightful of all the Christmas specials. It is a tape that can be watched over and over at any time of year. The message that love is the most important thing should not be confined to just one season.

I have had my copy of "Emmet Otter" since it first came out on a Disney release so am not aware of any editing. However, I have given copies of the newer version to friends and they have all loved it, so unless you are a puriest, enjoy one of the BEST holiday productions ever.

Summary: Edited version
Review: I agree with another reviewer. I have been watching this classic since I was two years old (I am now 18). It has become a tradition for my family to watch it every Christmas season. When we bought the movie online the entire family was thrilled to watch it again. However, to our dissapointment some of the most precious parts were not included. We had received an edited version. It would be nice if the original version could be released and sold also so that we could see our favorite movie in it's entirety.

Summary: My Favorite XMas Movie Ever
Review: I remember when I was younger watching this every year at Christmas time. It was always the one special I really looked forward to! Now I'm 27 and I have it in my video collection so that I can continue watching it every year. Every child (and adult) should own a copy of this.

Summary: Half Of 50 Cents
Review: I remember watching this on I think on HBO when I was like 8 and it I am glad to see that it is back! Their are so many wonderful things that make me laugh about this short muppet special. I even named my dog after Emmett Otter.

Summary: I love mashed potatoes.
Review: Consistent with other muppet works, this story is full of good vibes, classic characters, laughter and tunes that stay in your head for years. Jim Henson once again brings forth the values of friendhip, family and community and all the elements we need to keep them working--not just at the holiday season. I haven't seen this in years. I think it used to air on HBO around Christmas and I never taped it as a kid. Now, going on 27, I can share this with my friends who never got to see it or haven't seen it in years. Thinking back now, I realize how much of this movie has stuck with me--The Riverbottom Nightmare Band Theme, the Mother-of-Pearl inlay, the mother-son bond, the promise that love, being a good person, and staying true to yourself and your dreams will eventually bring good things your way.

Summary: Infinitely Touching
Review: This story is so well done, you don't even think of the fact that the characters are puppets. Emmet and his mother both (unknown to each other) take a risk to win a talent contest (and a large amount of money) to buy a nice Christmas present for each other. The tragic irony and suspense are well placed. After all, they can't both win. The dejection scene after the talent contest is done well. But the happy conclusion fits together like a puzzle. It is almost as if help from heaven has occurred. Instead of Emmet and his friends or his mother winning the contest and one prize, they ALL win. It is even clear that things will be easier for them in the years to come. The music and scenes are well done. Sorrow marches along side by side with comedy, and the characters are quite convincing. There is no outgrowing this beautiful Christmas movie.

Summary: Come for the Mupets, stay for the music
Review: Few things in life actually give me chills, and this film is one of them. I remember watching this for the first time when I was very young. The charecters are as rich and the story as sweat today as it was then. The music is outstanding. Even know writing this when I think of the final song that Emmit and his mother and friends sing, I get a little misty eyed. This is the best Christmas story ever made. Ever child (or adult for that matter) should have the privalage of seeing Emmit Otter's Jug-Band Chrstmas.
