Summary: "Nobody wants to oil a snake"
Review: A classic christmas program from Jim Henson's Muppets. I taped from TV a long time ago, but that tape broke. I bought it on VHS and was shocked that Kermit's closing remarks weren't there! Also, Alice Otter and Gretchen Fox's scece was shorterned. It was a great TV special, but the VHS doesn't compare.

Summary: A Sleeper Christmas Classic
Review: A priceless, magical gem of Christmas spirit! Jim Henson pretty much nailed it with this one. Yeah, it's a little corny, but the show is filled with great characters (my favorite is Wendell) and infectious little songs. How can you hear "Momma's Barbecue" and not go around humming it all day? It's a cold, cynical person who cannot derive some joy from this video. This is especially good for little-little kids, even toddlers. They may not understand the concepts, but they *love* the music. At least my toddler did. Of course, this means that in February, with Christmas long behind us, we're STILL watching Emmet. : ) Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this video!

Summary: Great for Kids & Adults Alike
Review: This is a typical Jim Henson production. Excellent photography, good story and beautiful music. In fact, "Where the River Meets The Sea" should have been recorded for single release. I feel it is that good a song. Overall this ranks with all the Christmas classics and should be shown each Christmas as the other classics are.

Just a beautiful production!!

Summary: Poor Quality Version of Christmas Classic
Review: Some problems: 1) Picture looks slightly out of focus at times. 2) The audio mix emphasizes the music instead of the vocals, making it difficult to decipher some of the song lyrics. I tried every audio setting available and none sounded as good as my old copy on VHS. These are Muppets, it's not like we can read their lips or anything. 3) One of the "edits" makes no sense. Towards the beginning, when Emmet's mom is annoyed that the woman won't pay her this week for the laundry, her voice (in another version) trails off saying "Why don't you just fall...off...the...dock." But in this DVD version, the last four words are edited out. So when another character says, "That's telling her Alice!" he's not referring to anything. All in all, this DVD is very disappointing and I can't recommend it, even though I love the story.

Summary: Loved it as a kid and now as an adult!
Review: What can I say? I have enjoyed this movie on HBO since I can remember and now I own the DVD. You will love it!

Summary: Emmet and Ma Otter versus the Riverbottom Gang
Review: One of the most delightful made-for-television Christmas stories ever produced and released and I'm especially pleased that it's now available on DVD.

For those of you not familiar with the story, Emmet Otter and his single mother are struggling to survive, with Emmet doing odd jobs and his Ma taking in laundry. Separately they each secretly decide to enter a Christmas Eve talent contest -- Ma with her beautiful voice and Emmet organizing a Jug-Band. Both must compete against the Riverbottom Gang's wild electric band made up of the Riverbottom Gang.

A joyous Jim Henson musical production, narrated by Kermit-the-Frog.

I especially recommend this for all ages, elementary school youngsters through senior citizens. After viewing this story of Emmet and his mother you'll be in the mood to celebrate Christmas.

Summary: The story is Classic the DVD PICTURE QUALITY IS POOR !!!
Review: This is a Classic Jim Henson story filled with great tunes.

BEWARE - This is 2001 and it is really sad that the DVD transfer is so sub-standard. Especially since they state it has been "Digitally Mastered Audio & Video". Don't you believe it!!!!

This DVD may be exceptable on the small, standard TV but it's "PICTURE QUALITY IS POOR IN THE HOME THEATRE HDTV ENVIRONMENT"!!!!

Summary: This is the edited version!!!
Review: Contrary to some other reviews, HBO always ran the same exact version throughout the times which they aired it. This original version was released in the mid 80s on VHS. They have since rereleased it on VHS making the original out of print. Like many things for whatever reason someone with a suit and tie thinks it will be good to revamp or change things(See MUPPET FAMILY XMAS). So the current in print VHS and DVD are not the original version aired on HBO. I have that version and it is different from the new DVD and VHS. For those who don't have a copy of the original try some auction sites(...) to find this rare out of print version. It comes in a white big cheesy VHS 80s plastic box with the characters illustrated on the front. If you are lucky enough to find it. Good luck!!!!!!!

Summary: Great Family Fun from my childhood, still great to watch!
Review: I can't say enough good things about Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. I watched this movie for the first time on HBO. At that time I was amazed at how the lifelike the muppet's acted. I still completely enjoy watching this movie, over and over, again. In fact, right now I have the song, "Bar-B-Que" from this movie stuck in my head. This movie is a good lesson on importance of family and friends. And an absolute MUST HAVE for your Christmas DVD collection.

Summary: An unfaded Classic
Review: This is a charming music filled program with a slower more relaxed pace then most newer holiday faire. It tells the story of Emmet Otter and his Mother Alice, who are poor but content with their life. Having just enough money to survive day to day, they can't afford to give presents at Christmas. When they hear of a talent contest being held on Christmas Eve they both secretly enter, hoping to win the prize money and the chance to buy the other a Christmas present.
Featuring the music of Paul Williams, who wrote the "Rainbow Connection" from the Muppet Movie. The music is what makes "Emmet" fun, from the funny "Grandma's Bathing Suit" to the beautiful and moving "In our World".
I recorded "Emmet" a quarter century ago with an Betamax recorder (...). Comparing the original CBC Broadcast to the DVD, I found 3 variations between the two. The most notable is Kermit the Frog's closing remarks being totally deleted in the DVD release, also one of the funniest lines in the program is gone. When Alice Otter is delivering Gretchen Fox's laundry by boat, and is told by Gretchen that she'll pay her after Christmas for her services, Alice mutters to herself "Since It's only 2 days to Christmas I really appreciate it if you would .. fall of the dock". Unless you have a long memory or access to 25 year old video recordings you won't notice because the programs' flow and continuity remains untouched. Why Jim Henson productions feels they need to edit a 1 hour program for a DVD release I never know. Even with the changes this program gets 5 stars easily and is fun for both old and young alike.
