Summary: The Cat in the Hat
Review: The movie was not that bad. The low mark is because you can not get past the previews (by the menu or the fast forward options). This is very annoying to my children as well as me. I paid for this movie not the trailers.

As for the movie quality - my kids love it. I liked it OK.

Summary: Couldn't even watch it
Review: I'm really frustrated. The dvd does not let you skip the previews. It says you can FF through them, but give me a break. Who the heck do they think they are making me sit through that? My kids were not happy! We didn't even watch the movie. Just returned the DVD. Whoever the IDIOT was who came up with that idea should be fired. STUPID!!!

Summary: Cmon folks its F.U.N
Review: this film isn't really supposed to be "side splittingly funny". Its supposed to be Fun eye candy which is what the book was. I found this film enjoyable as a fun film not a great comedy, most kids like "silly" and "fun" stuff not intelligently witty stuff?!? Its a fun ride for the kid in all of us. A good little movie with a colorful palette of characters etc. Is it the book? No, the book and the original cartoon are truly original this film is just a live action version and its pretty darn good!

Summary: The Cat in the Hat
Review: I was very unimpressed with this movie. It is not a movie fit for kids or adults. It is in poor and crude taste and did not leave me feeling uplifted in any way. I am appalled that this movie was made this way. It would have been more appropriate, if the movie had been made exactly from the Dr. Suess book.

Summary: For what it is, it's actually quite good . . .
Review: Dr. Suess' The Cat in the Hat is a great movie, for what it is.

This movie seems to generally follow these priorities:

1. Eye Candy - First and foremost, it becomes quickly evident that Cat In The Hat is all eye candy. The movie has TONS of it, whether it be fantastic stage design or the really seamlessly integrated CG effects. It's really just enjoyable to look at. (The score is also quite good.)
2. Edgy Comedy - There are some great, though at times quite edgy, one-liners that will likely appear to many as gaudy as offensive for what appears to be a 'kiddy movie'; it most certainly barely garnered it's PG rating. In my opinion, theres enough slapstick humour to keep the kiddies entertained, and enough . . . mature content to keep the rest at bay. The shameless marketing ploys and and audience addresses, (they broke the fourth wall!) I thought were entertaining, though I can understand somes distate.
3. Story & Morals - Last, and most certainly least in this tale, is the underlying morals and story which this movie barely keeps to. If you're expecting something true to the written works of Dr. Seuss, this movie will most definately dissapoint. The mystery and intrigue (and for better or worse, much of the rhyming) of the book is gone in favor of the portryal of some of the more playful moments of the book. (Possible Spoilers!) It basically is about how a reckless boy, 'Concrete' (as the Cat prefers to refer to him,) learns to follow rules, while his control freak sister learns to relinquish control, and more predominantly about how the two learn to get along with each other. Closure is swift and short, but it seems to work. Barely. The kids are cute, and Mike Myers plays . . . Mike Myers for the most part. But again, in the case, the story clearly takes the backseat to flashy effects and over-the-top (yet strangely appropriately inappropriate) acting.

Incidently, I saw Conrad (Spencer Breslin) at Univeral Studios on the Studio Tour this past summer; an incident which struck me as quite ironic . . .

This movie is definately not for everyone (not recommended for small children under eight). But if you're a fan of Mike Myers, this aural combination of one part The Mask, one part Austin Powers with a twist of Dr. Seuss entertaining (if lacking in other venues).

Summary: It's ok
Review: I happened to like this i know that is is not for small children , but i enjoy it and i plan on buying it.

Summary: Addendum to a Previous Review
Review: I gave this DVD another spin and I think I may have an interesting take. Previous comments such as "not for kids" or "not like the book" are a little too vague. After all, Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner cartoons got somewhat violent, along with newer Simpsons and Ichy & Scratchy. Profanity in movies seems somewhat a pre-requisite any more. HOWEVER, I feel the Best audience for this flick is for those of us who are still kids inside. I actually watched the movie a third time listening to the Commentary by Alec and Bo and was actually very entertaining in a "behind the scenes", sort of way. Anyway, not to go on, but it makes me laugh and sometimes pretty hard and that's called ENTERTAINMENT! :)

Summary: More Myers than Seuss, but enjoyable
Review: Mike Myers plays the titular cat as a cross between the cowardly lion and a jewish Dr. Evil. The movie is visually brilliant and relies on the sets to hold your attention until Myers shows up, thats when the fun and laughs begin. This movie probably owes more
to Myer's S.N.L/Austin Powers humor than anything to do with Dr. Seuss, but it works as a surrealistic, visually eye-popping comedy with enough wackiness for the kids and adult humor for parents.Alec Baldwin finally gets the chance to be as funny onscreen as he was in all those Saturday Night Live appearances.
Myers should use him as the villain in the next Austin Powers movie. Overall, I found this pretty entertaining and the kind of DVD that kids would watch over and over, until they know it by heart.Critics seemed pretty harsh on this movie, as if they were expecting "Citizen Kane" or something, but I actually liked this better than The Grinch movie with Jim Carrey which was way too long and very short on laughs.

Summary: Do not waste your money
Review: Dr. Seuss would most likely roll over in his grave if he were to see this movie. Very little of the original children's book is quoted or shown through the movie, and alot of garbage was added in. There are several blatant off color jokes through-out the movie such as the cat looking at the mother's photograph and it opening up like a playboy centerfold. Mike Myer's performance is shoddy to say the least and the voice he uses for the cat is a combination of his SNL character Linda Richman (the "Cawfee Tawlk" lady) and the cowardly lion. There is a whole subplot that involves Alec Baldwin as the mother's dead beat boyfriend that is ridiculous. I am truely amazed that actors such as Alec Baldwin , Mike Myers, and Kelly Preston would even sign on for such a distasteful insult to Dr. Seuss.

Summary: Wasn't Impressed.
Review: I don't think this movie was good. I would not watch it again or even recommend it to anyone. I'm sorry I wasted my money on it. Not a good movie.
