Summary: Is this really a kid's movie
Review: I see that a lot of people hate this movie, but I see some are giving this a good review, and I seem to be one of the people that seem to like this film, I don't know if this is really a comedy, or if that my humor is really that limited. And since there are 2 seprate versions of this movie, a wide screen and a full screen, which I don't know why a lot of movie companies like to do this. One of my biggest problems with the dvd, is that the trailers, before the trailers, a message comign up that you can skip foward to the menu, and I have tried how many times, and I can not do that. In 2000, we had How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with Jim Carrey hiting behind a lot of make up, and now we Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, with Mike Myers now hiding behind a lot of make up. What is next, Green Eggs and Ham? As the movie opens, Jane (Kelly Preston) is at work, and her boss (Sean Hayes) is giving a speech about that night's company party that Jane is holding, and her boss tells her that the house should be in shape or she is "fired", just after recieveing word that her baby sitter for her children Conrad (Spencer Breslin) and Sally (Dakota Fanning) is leaving the house, and has to leave to be with her children, she is a single Mom, and there is no word of what happended to thier father. She wroks as a ral estate agent, while at the house, Conrad (who is a rule breaker) and does the oppioste of what he is told, slides down the stairs, and who should catch in the act, but his Mom, and he goes out the front door, leading his Mom to be mad with him, for getting her dress for the party almost dirty, which leads him to being grounded for a week. But then she gets a call from her boss, and he wants her to return back to work that day, reason (not really given), which leads to Jane getting a bab sittter for her children at the last mintue, and she manges to get Mrs. Kwan (Amy Hill). And she leaves some rules for both children, and lets Mrs. Kwan know that Conrad is grounded. Thier next door neighbor and Jane Boyfriend Lawwerence Quinn (Alec Bladwin) hates Conrad, and wants to send him to a special school for troubled boys. And when it starts to rain, and they are stuck in the house, with nothing to do. Until they here a noise in the house leads to find out, what is going on. Enter the Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers), which the kids are scared of at first. Now a lot of reviewers may but thier reviews into a rythem but not me, I am not putting this into a rythem or nothing, just a review.

Summary: Wrong.
Review: Definitely not the book. This is Hollywood™ gone wrong. If Dr. Seuss were alive, I'd bet, he'd writhe and he'd flive and he'd probably wet! He'd flive at the director, he'd writhe at the writer, he'd wive and he'd five and he'd probably flector!

This film is so bad, so flimsy with plot, that writers and titlers had minds full of snot!

What should you see if you see this DVD?

But run for some fun in the wonderful sun and stay away from TV!

Summary: much better than critics said
Review: I'll make this short and sweet. This movie is totally appropriate for kids unless things like his cat tail going up as an erectile analogy is something that will send you searching for the stop button on your remote. My 3 year old loves it, which of course means that I have to watch this movie over and over. There is actually a parallel with Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory with the humor (but this isn't a musical, by any means). Mike Myers is great as always, and by NOT rhyming or being childish, this movie is much more clever than it could have been. I laughed a LOT at this movie.

Summary: Flat in the Hat!
Review: This movie begins with all the elements of a great movie: Dr.Suess's Classic Story, Mike Meyers, Excellent set design, 2 adorable children, and even Alec Baldwin. Then something strange happens...the writers go on vacation and a custodian named Jeb takes over and writes the movie in the classic trash genre. I try to be as open as possible, but somehow it seems to me that the numerous (and I mean numerous) inappropriate scenes, subplots, and distractions from the main story are rather useless and mundane or if close to inspiring at all, embarrassing and corny. WELL, yes, corny is often times a part of comedy, but this is the truly bizarre corny I'm talking about. There is a scene in which the Cat in question is repairing the couch, in much the same way a mechanic does a car. Seems harmless, until of course he shows the crack of his ass. Then the movie seems to change to something evil and distorted with a sort unsavory Tim Burton feel to it. The only thing missing is the Crypt Keeper.

So, The Cat in the Hat, really isn't such at all. And why the 4 stars? WELL, again to be fair, the movie was original, loosely based on some of the Dr. Suess characters and actually not bad (even though the story was a little strange and objectionable) because Mike Meyers played a great cat. The kids are excellent for their parts and Thing 1, and Thing 2 are a must see.

This movie could be significantly improved and I would like to see the made for TV version, which would likely clean it up, change a bit of dialogue and transform it into good clean family entertainment. Then again, shame on Mike Meyers for accepting this role after reading the script. But I expect this from Alec Baldwin, so he's off the hook.

Summary: It aspired to be what it should never become.
Review: Firstly, i am a dedicated Mike Meyer's fan. Second, i have an absolute love and affection for the Dr. Seuss books. I read one of the huge collection nearly every night to my 5 year old son. One thing i understand about the cat in the hat character is this : The children needed an 'adult-like' figure in their lives that had time to play with them. Most children crave (at a young age) that their parents could play with them ALL the time. Of course, the reality has always been different. Parents must work and deal with tons of other things. That leaves little to no time to play with their children. That's where the childrens imagination comes in. They bring to life a creature who is bigger than life. This character (in the Seuss books) is a wise, non-demanding character that makes more peace out of havoc than havoc out of peace. The kids did not know how to have fun anymore. He showed them that a small box and a little imagination were all you really needed in the first place. He taught them how to have fun with wisdom and playfulness. NOT in the way that Mike Myers did in this tragic-way off-topic flimsy film. Some have said this movie was not 'meant' to be funny. Would somebody tell the makers of this film that? They reached so hard for any kind of joke that they left me, my wife, and my 5 year old son dumbfounded as we watched everything we loved about the Cat In The Hat trampled on by this farce of a film. Mike Myers runs around, throwing his arms in the air and whooping like an idiot. Where in the Dr. Seuss book did this happen? He also spouts out somequite explicite sexual innuendo throughout the movie. Not to mention the two quite distasteful and un-funny songs that only fared worse for the movie as a whole. Within these songs,a spastic cat balances on the edge of two very raunchy curse-words. This is not family fun, it is a movie that should never have been made. It does not represent the Dr. Seuess universe in any way. It was cut down from 1 hour and 50 minutes to less than 1 hour and 20 minutes for a good reason. The faster this got over with, the sooner we could come to grips with the time and money we wasted on this horrible excuse for a movie. Jim Carrey had the decency to apologise for the mediocrity of 'The Majestic', please , Mr. Myers, follow suit and let your fans know that you are going to pick more wisely on your next project. Most of your fans who took the time to watch this are losing faith in you.

Summary: If you love Dr. Seuss' book, don't see the movie.
Review: Here I am again, trying to explain why I rented a movie made from a book. Against my better judgement I have seen three such films this year and every time I have been disappointed. You'd think I would have learned something by now, but hope does spring eternal. On the other hand, you'd think that Hollywood would have learned that just because you *can* make a movie, doesn't mean that you should.

The book Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss is a true children's classic about a brother and sister who start one rainy day alone and bored, only to find an unexpected adventure with a tall cat who comes knocking at their door. This cat is full of magical tricks and surprises, but the children soon learn that there is a price to be paid for all the fun; the house is a wreck and mom is coming home soon. How can they fix everything in time?

The movie Cat in the Hat takes a very liberal interpretation of the delightful children's book. As a matter of fact, it hardly resembles the book at all. In order to stretch a small rhyming picture book into an hour and a half movie, the screenwriters had to distort the original story, add several characters and subplotlines and entierely do away with anything that resembled the original. The preview clips that advertised TCITH in theaters made it seem as if the movie kept true to Dr. Seuss' book, but that's just not true. Even the rhyming verse is edited and stretched out to fit. You can't improve upon perfection, only ruin it. Couldn't they have left that alone, at least?

I do have some good things to say about the actors involved. Mike Myers, who plays the Cat, did the best possible job that could have been done with the role he had to work with here. I have always admired his comedy and he does have some good moments as the Cat. The little girl who plays Sally is absolutely precious; both kids are good actors, in my opinion. There's a lot to be said for the valiant attempts at set design and art direction in this film as well. It can't be easy to translate Seuss's weird, wild style into a three dimensional world for film, but the result kept the feeling of the book's artwork reasonably well despite that challenge.

If you have kids that are just dying to see this movie because they love the book and can't imagine that it would disappoint them, this could be a good object lesson for them. It is a harmless way to kill an hour and a half. There was nothing really objectionable in TCITH other than overall mediocrity. Otherwise I can't find a good reason to recommend this movie to anybody.

Summary: This cat needs to be spanked and shut in the laundry room!
Review: It's a very misleading movie. Actually, I laughed out loud at some parts (like the "Things" running amok in the whole house.) But, I am hearing impaired, so I never heard any of the "bad" words that many viewers reported hearing.

And really, there's no need at all for The Cat to turn, bend over, and moon us with fake buttocks, fondle himself as Carmen Miranda, or get hit in the privates by a boy's baseball bat. This stuff is best left to lowbrow teen movies while this movie is SUPPOSED to be based on a CHILDREN'S BOOK! So that old Mike Meyers should've been boycotted from attending an award ceremony on Nickelodeon channel (which IS a children's network after all!) for messing up a cherished childhood memory like that! Not on Dr. Seuss's 100th birthday to boot!

I loved Cat In The Hat when I was a little girl and I still do now. So it's kinda sad to see such a visually beautiful and well-designed holiday movie go to a waste like that at the grimy hands of that thoughtless clown!

Summary: Simply wonderful!
Review: I think I need to come to the defence of this movie. It is wonderful for kids and adults. My kids (grade 3&5) love it. And the adult humor goes right over their head.
No it isn't just like the book. I think the book is the book, this is a modern version. I love this movie as well as the original book and the cartoon that went with it.

Mike Myers was fantastic and their is a moral to the story that is excellent.

Get it watch it, enjoy it!

Summary: We all loved it!
Review: My Wife, my 13 yr old, my 11 and my 6 year who has Downs Sydrome and I all really loved it. We watched it at least three times together over a weekend and it is now one of my little guy's favorites.

There are very funny things for the adults, the teens, the pre-teens and little kids. Are we missing something? Why did and does this movie get bad reviews?

Anyway, we all love it!

Summary: This is terrible.
Review: This is the worst movie ever. This is horrible. It sucks more than Mariah Carey's "Glitter" did. I rented online for my nephew and I had to turn it off within the first five minutes of it. neither one of us could stand it.
