Summary: This Cat Should Stay In The Hat...
Review: As an admirer of Dr. Seuss, I was actually thinking an adaptation of one of his best-known books would be a good use of my nine dollars. From the commercials, the sets and costumes looked amazing, the casting directors had snagged some of today's most popular actors (Mike Myers, Kelly Preston, and Alec Baldwin among them), and it had been produced by Brian Grazer, (who worked with Ron Howard on "A Beautiful Mind"). Wow, was I ever wrong.

"Cat in the Hat", the story of two children who are whisked away for a day of adventure by a magical cat, is, by far, one of the worst movies I have seen this fall. With the limitless possibilities that are presented in the simple main idea, the writing team can't seem to get it together, with pathetic, chunky dialogue and a measly script. Performance wise, Mike Myers is suprisingly unfunny as the Cat, with no vocal or physical characterization that distinguishes him from any of his other on screen personas. He brings nothing new to the picture, which, although a failure in many ways, could have at least salvaged a two-star rating had the acting been on-par. As for the other actors, the children (played by Dakota Fanning and Spencer Breslin) are as good as can be given the shape of the scripts, and Sean Hayes, with his over-done accent and movements, is profoundly annoying as the neat-freak Mr. Humberfloob.

Probably the only high point in this movie is the superb job by the costume and set designers, who truly bring Dr. Seuss's fantasy world to life. The original ideas for designs of houses, towns, and right down to the rooms of the immediate set make a lush and vibrant background that provides a visual feast for the audience. Clever and colorful costumes only add to the effect, and is a main part in creating the world of Cat in the Hat.

Despite efforts by costumes and sets, it's not enough to save this movie. Its jokes fall short, its performances are some what tedious, and the plot fails to interest the audience on any level. Although some of the younger movie-goers may enjoy it, anyone older than 7 will figure out that this cat should have stayed in its hat.

Summary: Worth the matinee
Review: I took my 2 1/2 year old daughter to see this as I thought she would enjoy the colors and liveliness of the characters. She loved this movie. She was totally entralled as was all the other children I witnessed watching it in the theater. This movie does not have much in it that would appeal to adults but for kids maybe under 12. It does have some reminiscent scenes that remind you of Dr. Evil and Fat B****** because of the accent. It's not how I probably would have adapted the book but it was a fun movie anyway. If you decide to watch this movie just keep in mind the age group it was made for.

Summary: Horrible, Evil and an insult to Dr. Suess
Review: Who in his/her right mind in Hollywood greenlighted this barf?? Sure, it probably sounded like a good idea at first but this is causing Dr. Suess to spin even faster in his grave (The Grinch started his gyrations)!

Mike Myers tells stupid "Austin Powers" toilet jokes, The supposedly magical Cat character uses credit cards and there are a billion "product placements"/commercials in this dreck. Why is Alec Baldwin in this and why was his character necessary? Hollywood producers took a pure, honest concept and turn it into a 90 minute commercial for consumerism and craziness. This sewage is worse than a arsenic laced martini!

Don't be sheep, go see a real movie.

Summary: For money, not for love
Review: This movie has already made millions of dollars on the hype alone, and it's a shame. Hollywood should not be endlessly rewarded for putting this stuff out, and it must stop here. Please, do not go and spend money to see this film. As they did with the Grinch, Hollywood took a sweet, fun, silly book for kids by Dr. Seuss and turned it into a cynical, bloated, crude piece of dirt for adults - the kind of adults who like cynical, bloated, and crude. It ain't Mike Myers' fault, it's the writers and producers with the crass belief that anything with enough hype behind it will make money. This belief must be challenged. I hope they make a lot less than they expected they would on this one.

Summary: simply an insult to Dr. Seuss
Review: I was actually excited when I heard that "The Cat In The Hat" was going to come to life on the big screen. I didn't expect it to maintain the same level of genius that only Dr. Seuss could come up with, but I expected at least a descent adaptation. Instead, what we have here is nothing more than a typical Hollywood money-making machine that massacres the original story and turns it into a toned-down "Austin Powers 4," complete with sexual connotation jokes, eyebrow-raising situations and toilet humour. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Mike Myers and the "Austin Powers" trilogy. But at least those movies weren't deceiving in their content: we knew what to expect. But with "The Cat In The Hat," we basically get the same thing in the disguise of a "children's movie," only because the powers-that-be know that the masses will eat it all up and make their wallets even fatter. They have crapped on the genius of Dr. Seuss' work. It's a good thing that he's already dead, because seeing this would have likely killed him.

If you're thinking of going to see this movie, I have a better idea. Using small pieces of paper write down the names of all the movies currently playing (except this one), place all of them in a bowl, close your eyes and select one randomly. Now go see it. Trust me, you'll get a LOT more out of it.

Summary: Ode to a Bad Movie
Review: Oh this movie is so bad
It makes me oh so very sad
to think I parted with my money
I did not laugh
It was not funny
Do not rush to shell out your dough
or bring your kiddies to this show
Do not buy it when it comes out
It is not worth it! I must shout
Do not show it in your house
Do not view it with your spouse
Do not put it in your car
Should you see it run very far
It made me shudder, it made me cringe
This was not entertaining like the Grinch
Mike Myers you are no Jim Carrey

from Austin or Wayne you shouldn't vary
Amazon says I have to give it at least one star
one star too many
it's not worth a penny
As I close now at the end
I hope you think of me not as a critic, but as a friend

Summary: Save your money... take your kids to the mantinee
Review: First of all, I loved The Grinch. But, no doubt about it, The Cat in the Hat will not impress the older Dr. Seuss fans. There was no story and it seemed to butcher the original Cat in the Hat book. Mike Meyers was HORRIBLE... his worst performance EVER!!! He wasn`t funny at all. In fact, I didn`t laugh once throughout this movie.

However, my 7-year-old son did enjoy this movie. The set was fantastic in creating a Dr. Seuss world. The colors were vibrant and fun. These are the only good things I can think of. So, take the little ones! They won`t be as picky as me.

Summary: Worse Than Milo & Otis!!
Review: Boredom is a frame of mind, but this movie will test your ability to keep a thoughtful focus. It had my family (including my children) wondering if it would ever end. It might have worked had it either been written for children or adults. The crude adult inuendos and improper language sewn throughout the movie were entirely inappropriate, especially for children. We all fealt relieved to have the movie over, and wished we had never gone. It was a waste of Thanksgiving Day afternoon. Milo & Otis was at least a good movie for children.

Summary: awful
Review: This movie will probably entertain kids more. I didn't like it. The plot is simplistic, and honestly Mike Myers can be annoying. The movie tries to appeal to both adults and kids but the adult jokes are so lame. You'll either love it or hate it. I didn't enjoy how the baby-sitter was made fun of, the movie has a lot of crude jokes in it.

There's also product placement in the movie where the kids go on a rollercoaster ride and the Cat goes "like at Universal Studios. Cha Ching!" Bad script and bad acting, and why did they hire Mike Myers for the part? He's so crude.

Summary: A true insult to the human mind
Review: Had I not had 3 little children in attendance, I would have marched out of the theatre within 15 minutes. I love a good comedy, and outrageous humour is absolutely welcome and encouraged, but this went WAY too far for little kids. Thankfully it was over their heads, however it wasn't necessary for the film. What a waste.
