Summary: what a perfectly aweful movie
Review: I never take the time to write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so this time. I took my wife and two children to see this today - what a mistake! I leaned over to my wife about a half-hour into the movie and said "remember this part right here". Later, she asked me what I meant. My response was, that was the point I would have walked out if we didn't have the kids with us! I like Mike Meyers, but he did a TERRIBLE job as the cat in the hat. At first, he acted like Herman from the Munsters. At other times, you'd swear he was the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz. The rest of the time he was a furry Austin Powers; my wife and I agreed that from the first words spoken by Meyers, that this was not the Cat in Hat we thought it would be.

I wasn't offended by the adult humor. If the kids understand it, they're probably old enough to hear it. It's just the the movie was B A D. The acting was mediocre, the songs were terrible, and the commercialism (ala the plug for Universal Studios) was darn near shameful. We buy most movies we go and see, but we won't be buying this one. Jim Carry's rendition of the Grinch a true masterpiece by comparison.

This adaptation is a loser. And to think how much Meyers was paid to stink this up. I'm sure Dr. Suess is rolling in his grave!

Summary: I Thought It Was Kinda Funny
Review: This movie could have been much better, but I also feel that it could have been worse. Yes, there are some adult jokes that may not be appropriate for children, but as a whole, it was a decent family movie. My advice for seeing this movie is this: if you expect Dr. Seuss then you will be disappointed; if you expect a Mike Meyers movie, then you will probably enjoy it. I also feel that this movie is not worth the full movie price, so if you go and see this, go to a matinee.

Summary: One of the world's weakest films ever (give it a 0)
Review: The story makes no sense. How can they put one great book into one triple weak film. The Cat in the Hat sends the wrong message to children. I should even blame Dr. Seuss for making that weak movie, because I really enjoyed the previous Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This film is so annoying. The book is way better than the movie!

The story did not make any sense, because, the bacteria looks so ugly! Also, they used weak stuff that they didn't add in the book. The scene where the Cat, Conred and Sally chased after the evil Alec Baldwin guy to get their dog back bored me all the way to death!

The Cat in the Hat sends the wrong message to children, because The Cat breaks everything in their kid's mom's house property. If their mom had seen it, it would be a disaster and the mom would had even punished their kids for more than a month. After the Cat broke their house property, he thinks its a good idea to play tennis and break more stuff! Oh my god, what's wrong with this annoying character? He's not that really funny!

The book is way better than the movie, because the book is more funny than the movie. The Cat in the Hat was a really great book. Dr Seuss use to do so good making The Grinch. They should concentrate harder and quit around by rushing art! YOU CAN'T RUSH ART WHILE MAKING A MOVIE THAT YOU WANT TO BE GOOD!

Good: I had to admit that The Cat in the Hat was a little bit funny. A silly movie that can entertain ages 2-7.

Bad: The Cat was so boring and so so so bad! Overall, I found that movie full of garbage than funny.

Ugly: The Cat in the Hat is like one of the worst movies ever. I wouldn't even give it a 1/2 of a star or more. I would never see this film ever in my life!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: It is not that bad!!!
Review: After reading reviews I was prepared for the worst (my daughter practically forced me to go to see the movie). It turned out to be a pretty good experience. It could be argued about how close the movie to the book but I doubt it's possible to create a movie that will be exactly like Dr. Seuss' book. Mike Myers is reasonably good, some jokes are pretty funny, the colors and effects are exceptional. Overall, it's a light movie, that is easy to watch for both adults and children and which, in my opinion, represents the spirit of the original book

Summary: absolutely awful
Review: The Cat in the Hat is one of the WORST movies I have ever seen. The script is in no way interesting or creative. All the hype of the movie made many characters who had micro parts seem like they had major roles. Mike Myers is not funny at all. The entire movie seems to be like one big deleted improv scene that would be contained on the DVD as an extra feature. I am beginning to realize that Mike Myers plays the same character in every movie. Like in View From The Top, his talent does not show in this movie. It made me feel no emotion whatsoever. Awful cast. Awful script. Awful direction. Just plain awful. NOT worth the price of a movie ticket. I don't even think it's worth the price to rent.

Summary: Bad Cat! You should not be here
Review: Here's a poor stab at retelling the wonderful tale
'cause Mike Myer's poor taste and crude jokes really fail.
I saw it today without my kids with me
I'm glad that they missed it. This cat is NOT nifty.

Though the scenes are impressive, Seuss's rhymes are omitted,
And the crude sense of humor used throughout is just wicked.
The colors and characters are too over the top.
The action and wild pandemonium don't stop.

"Disappointed?" you ask. "Yes I am" I must say
Both Shrek and Austin Powers were great in their way.
--Why not pull it off with the Cat in the Hat?
Mike Myers has talent, but here he went flat.

We all wanted to see this myth live on the screen
But this Cat's inappropriate, if you know what I mean.
It's not good like the Grinch, or Scissorhands either
It's NOT like the book so don't go to the theater.

Shame on you Bad Cat! Dropping in to a Rave?
With young Paris Hilton? Not whimsy -- Depraved.
He leers at the Mother, predictably coughes up a hairball.
He's "lactose intolerant"; revels in mayhem for all.

With adult flavored jokes both banal and crude
this movie comes off "not for kids" and just rude.
This Cat is not funny, this story not true
to its roots in the Dr. Seuss book we all knew.

I wanted a myth, a funny family time
How about one solid attempt at a rhyme?
Most of all gone is the sense of good fun.
It's not wonderfully silly -- real laughs? Almost none.

Not whimsical. No, what I saw disappointed me so.
I came home to write this, and now you can know.
The jokes are just slapstick, they're oafish, not funny--
Makes me feel like they made it to take home our money.

Summary: Why?
Review: This is one of those movies that I have walked out of and all I could think was "Why????""
How could they take a sweet story and corrupt it this way? I have sat many a night with my children, reading this story over and over. They absolutely love Seuss.
This movie is visually spectacular, but does not hold true to the spirit of Dr. Seuss. It is not approptiate for young children. It is Austin Powers dressed up like the Cat in the Hat. The need to throw in improper innuendos in a film that should be for children and families is just sad. The rating for this movie should be PG-13. If the studios feel the need to add adult bits to a film, then please don't target my kids!

Summary: This is not "The Cat in the Hat"
Review: I had heard some negative things about this movie but out of curiosity I decided to go see it. I figured that most of it was over blown. I am thankful that I didn't take any children to it. This movie is not appropriate for children. It is disrespectful to the spirit of "The Cat in the Hat" and all fine children's books. The humor is in the poorest taste. There is nothing funny about hepatitis. I now see why I was the only one in the theater.

Summary: You would have to try really hard to get any worse!
Review: I have seen my parents sit through some really awful, stupid, offensive movies.....but they walked out of this one and demanded their money back! In my opinion, that says it all!!!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: No, really, it's terrible.
Review: Someone wrote a review previously that said parents who were bashing this thing that dares to call itself DR. SEUSS' THE CAT IN THE HAT had forgotten that the primary reason for its existence was to entertain children. They wrote that their children's laughter was the most important thing to remember when sitting through this horrible piece of dreck.

Visually, this film is interesting in the same way an acid dream would be. The actors are a group of talented people. But, in case you didn't notice it when you were watching the film or have had the good fortune not to see it yet, the jokes are lewd and inappropriate; the story was bloated unnecessarily. The movie exists for no reason except to make money. It was not done in the spirit of the original book. It was not done because someone found an appropriate or inspired approach to the material. (In fact, the film is boring, insipid, confusing and, for no reason at all, includes jokes about lawyers and insurance - jokes that I hope were lost on children.)

The book is simple, entertaining, brief and to-the-point. It makes reading fun, and it encourages children and beginning readers to embrace a practice that will enrich their minds. This film does none of that. It's not even funny.

Mike Myers would be better used in something else. Alec Baldwin really needs to find better projects than this. Dakota Fanning and Spencer Breslin are talented young actors who deserve better material, rather than having to create characters stuck in the middle of a mindless special-effects extravaganza.

THE CAT IN THE HAT, if there was any justice, should make no money in the theaters. (Unfortunately, though, it has.) But a lot of people who've seen it hate the film. Hate it. Hate hate hate hate hate it.

Take that as a warning.
