Summary: what a disappointment!
Review: my sister-in-law and i went to see this when it came out (what a waste of good holiday money). good thing her neice wasnt able to come with us, because we would have had to leave the theatre. this seeming "children's movie" (it's dr. suess for crying outloud! he'd be rolling over in his grave!) was not produced with children in mind. it is full of adult humor, and i am sad to see that this is the direction children's movies are going. and to think that DR SUESS's stories are the most offensive children's films!! it's disgraceful. i am only 21 years old and i grew up on dr. suess. when i have children, they will too, but only the BOOKS.

Summary: What A Sad Loss...
Review: Cat in the Hat could have been a classic. Plus...you have Mike Meyers, a master playing the role of the cat - how could you go wrong?!?
Poor writing! Wow...
The movie is so cute with the special effects and goofy Mike Meyers voices & actions. But so often I asked myself through out the movie - why the heck did they just say that? or do that?
Half way through I turned to the person I was watching it with, and said "This movie is SO bad!"...they giggled, and said, "it's about time you say that!"...they didn't want to make me feel bad because I was the one who bought it...

Too bad...this movie could have really been something special. I don't even know who I would recommend this flick to. I'd say - stick with Jim Carey's The Grinch!

Summary: The Cat is Out of the Hat
Review: Ok, so I'll admit it. It's not the greatest movie in the universe, but not insanely bad either. Sure there was some potty humor/jokes and stuff like that, which did overflow my boat. So let me say it like this:

The setting was wonderful. From the curvy trees, to Sally and Conrad's pretty-and-perfect mother, everything makes you feel like you've really landed in one of Dr. Seuss' books.

The story almost follows the book, with a few twists and turns placed inside. Mom goes out, cat comes in and recks the house. He takes out thing 1 and 2 to make matters worse. After all that he leaves the house a total wreck, with mom on the way back home. Just before she enters the house, the cat comes back and cleans up his mess.

The acting was so-so. I waited a long time for the cat to actually do something funny; and when he did it raised my laugh-meter up to 4% out of 10%. Dakota Fanning did a wonderful Sally, and so did "Conrad". Kelly didn't do to bad either, and Mr. Sean made a few funnny preformances (although his character reminds me alot of somebody in Finding Nemo...).

Overall, it's an O.K. movie. I would have given it 2 stars, but the imaginative and whimsicall setting raised that to a total of 3 stars. The only reason I like this movie is because of the fish. He was a rather charming--but over-reactive--little fellow for a picture such as this. But if you want a fun family film that the kids AND adults will both enjoy, buy Finding Nemo....

Summary: So lousy my 4 year old nephew chimed in during movie...
Review: and asked "Is the movie over yet?" at the top of his lungs.

This piece of garbage ranks up there with Gigli as the worst movie ever.

Summary: this movie is offensive garbage
Review: This movie is an insult to the legacy of Dr Seuss, and his heirs should sue the movie company and Mike Meyers. Meyers is as funny as the hangnail on my big toe. Fart jokes are funny? Meyers hit a new low in Goldthumb or whatever that sick movie's title was. This was worse. If I had been in the U.S. when this movie hit the screens I'd have organized boycotts at the theaters and at the movie company premises. STOP TREATING US VIEWERS like morons, Hollywood. Take a lesson from people like Peter Jackson in New Zealand. You don't need to make GARBAGE to make money. Treat us and our children like adults. My three-year-old son loves The Cat In The Hat which is why I didn't take him to see this insult to film-making.

Summary: This "Cat" Craps In It's Own Hat
Review: Hyperactive mind spam for kids, 4 and under. If it isn't anything that has to do with "Austin Powers" or "Wayne's World", Mike Myers usually sucks in his films & this is no exception.

The film, based on the classic, popular Dr. Suess book, has a brother and sister stuck inside their house, on a rainy day, with nothing to do except being bored out of there minds (where's Stuart Little when you need him?). Thats about to change, however, when a larger than life cat, in a tall red and white striped hat, breezes through the front door and does everything in his magical powers to cheer both kids up and use their imagination for play, but, wind up getting into all sorts of trouble.

It sounds good, but, it isn't. Thats the main problem with this film. It should have never been made, becuase, what looks and sounds good in print, usually, doesn't translate well to the big screen (there are, of course, some exceptions - "Lord of the Rings", anyone?). The movie expands from the book, and comes up uneven (something about a crate that the kids aren't supposed to open. Of course they do open it causing The Cat's world, as well as, the human world collide. The sets are ghastly. It looks like Barney and his dinosaur friends became extinct, by blowing up all over this film. Day glow purple, red, green, orange, permeate every set to the point of rubbing your eyes in pain it hurts so much. But, what hurts the most, however, is that the film has no intelligence. It doesn't want to teach the kids anything but, how to be hyperactive and annoying, much like the brainless Teletubbies. Dr. Suess is spinning in his grave. Avoid like the hyperactive kid down the street.

Summary: Wonderful.
Review: I'd like to know why people are saying the original story was 'so innocent' when in fact it is not. The cat character was (and remains) a 'bad' cat. Always stirring up trouble and causing chaos. He was never a "fun loving, innocent cat"! And that's exactly what Myers did in the movie.

I loved this movie and would take younger children to see it. Sure there are a few "adult" jokes, but certainly a young child wouldn't notice nor understand. A wonderful movie - based on the book to a T - that people are taking too seriously. I hate how people always try to find a reason to rip a movie to shreds. At least get your facts straight about the original before doing so!

Summary: Definitely NOT the Dr Seuss Classic you grew up with
Review: This is definitely NOT appropriate for young kids. Don't make the mistake I made. I cannot believe they would take an innocent classic and turn it into this trash. I am not a prude- on the contrary, I enjoy adult humor, and many rated R movies of the likes of American Pie, but I EXPECT to see that sort of thing in those movies. I don't expect to see that in a classic story that kids love. The centerfold foldout of the mother's photo, the obvious staring down the dress of the mother by the wicked neighbor, the rave scene- those are just a few.

Now, I gave this two stars because it really is funny, and the DVD is packed with a lot of great extras. But don't think for a minute that it's appropriate for your 6-8 year old kids.

Summary: Reviews too harsh - very entertaining movie
Review: Alright, alright, alright! I think everyone knows now that this movie is not as innocent as the original story is. If you want that type of movie they made it many many years ago into a cartoon. If you want a movie that is wickedly funny and spattered with SOME adult humor and you aren't the kind of person to shy away from really twisted perspectives of reality, than you will love this movie. I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my cheeks. Mike Myers uses the same type of humor that made Austin Powers such a great film (ok the 3rd one was really pushing it and I still have never finished watching it). The harsh review about the Rave party scene went a little overboard. That scene was like 30 seconds long and I didn't see anyone taking ecstasy. It is just HUMOR, and with Mike Myers movies, anything goes. Get over it! This is a funny movie.

Summary: What a good movie!
Review: I had a lot of fun watching "The Cat". I thought it was one of the mos imaginative and clourful movies of 2003. Everything about it is so inventive and fascinating to watch. It is a shame that it was not nominated for its art design, it was incredible!
It was one of the most underrated movies of all time together with Timeline and Cold Creek Manor.
