Summary: Make your own decision... it was decent but not the greatest
Review: Personally, I thought the movie was good but I didn't think that it was good for little kids. It was great for teenagers but I don't think parents would find it funny. Maybe for themselves but definitely not for their kids. So if you want to take your kids to see the movie, make sure they're older kids or you don't care that there is quite a bit of crude humor in it or go for yourself and decide whether you want your kids to see it or not.

Summary: what is everyone's problem?
Review: i LOVED this movie. i thought it was halrious and Mike Myers was perfect for the role. There were laughs practically through the entire movie. And also there IS a lesson learned contrary to what my fellow reviewers have written. The two children learn to obey their mother and to love each other. Yes, there is some crude humor.. but uh,.. it says that as a warning so.. you can't complain there. If you like to laugh, go see this movie. That's basically all you will do.

Summary: MY KIDS LOVED THIS MOVIE!
Review: For all you people trashing this film remember the age group this film was made. My two girls are 5 and 9, both are bright and intelligent. They love to have me read them books everyday. They are begging to see this film again and to own the dvd when it is released. So for all of you out there (critics included) who hate this movie, please get over it. Life is too short. Your child's laughter and enjoyment should be more important.

Summary: One of the Holiday's Best New Movies!
Review: Okay, if you didn't like The Grinch (trust me, I didn't either), and don't plan on going to see The Cat in the Hat, then you're making a BIG MISTAKE! Here's why. All of the songs and the rhyming in The Grinch ruined the movie. But in The Cat in the Hat, the narrator, who only narrates a little bit during the movie, is the only one who does the rhyming. Oh, and also the Fish does it a little bit too. Songwise though, there is only one song done by The Cat. All the rhyming and song is done at the beginning of the movie. But the best part is the movie's humor. There's no swearing and it's just good fun. So if you just want to let loose, go see this movie.

Summary: Greatest movie ever
Review: This was such a GREAT movie. Most reviews I have read have just completely missed the whole point. Mike Meyers was amazing and the characters of the two children and mother just added to the fun. The family is supossed to be perfect but the boy in the family always does the opposite of what he is told. A nearby neighbor tries to send the boy to Military school but turns out to be a ... and awful man. Great movie thats all i can say!!

Summary: NOT APPROPRIATE FOR KIDS!!! SEX JOKES, PROFANITY,SIMULATED N
Review: THE GRINCH MUST HAVE WRITTEN IT, AS IT IS FULL OF SEX JOKES, SIMULATED NUDITY AND BARELY BLEEPED OUT PROFANITY. THE ACTING IS THE WORST YOU WILL EVER SEE. MIKE MYERS IS DOING A DEAD ON IMPRESSION OF THE COWARDLY LION, BUT IS WASTED HERE. DAKOTA'S ACTING IS GREAT BUT SHE IS WORKING IN A VACUME. THE FILMMAKER'S MUST HATE KIDS AS IT IS WILDLY INAPPROPRIATE FOR THEM. IT IS NOWHERE NEAR THE QUALITY OF THE GRINCH WHICH WAS NO MASTERPIECE.
THE PHOTOGRAPHY IS TERRIBLE, WITH THE ACTORS ALWAYS DEAD CENTER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PICTURE.
WHAT A MEANSPIRITED TREATMENT OF THE MATERIAL. NO LAUGHS HERE EITHER.

Summary: Not quite what the Doctor ordered...
Review: If you're going to compare this to The Grinch (starring Jim Carrey) stop right now. These are two different films, with different actors and a different director. Suffice to say that THE CAT IN THE HAT does not live up to the comedic masterpiece that is THE GRINCH.

I will have to agree with the reviewer who said it appears that Mike Myers was doing an Austin Power impression while cast as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. That is a dead-on description of Myers' performance through the whole film. He's got Bert Lahr's laugh down to a science. The problem with the perfomance is it lacks an original voice, but Myers' physicality itself in the Cat costume is quite entertaining, and he seems to have enjoyed himself, even under all the makeup and fur.

The set design and artistic production values of the film are the #1 reason I went to see it. The previews do a great job of letting you peek at the world of Anville where the Cat in the Hat, Sally, Conrad and all the other characters live. It is an eye-popping rainbow of acid greens, sourball purples and crazy patterns everywhere. The CGI effects don't take away from the story, they add to the overall sense of zaniness that could only come from the mind of Dr. Seuss.

Some of the humor tends to be a bit mature for what I am sure is the target audience of 5-9 year old kids. However, it will probably get a few chuckles out of the older kids and adults, as it did with me.

While THE CAT IN THE HAT has its funny moments, and it is entertaining, it does not capture the all the "Seussian" charm it should have brought to the big screen from the book.

3 stars overall (though the look of the film rates a 5!)

Summary: NOPE!!
Review: What is the problem here? Whey try to apply the wonderful illustration syle of Dr. Seuss, so lithe and elastic, to human beings, especially to actors who are not nearly thin enough? It just doesn't work.

And what about taking a children's classic and changing the story, adding characters and extending the thing to irresponsibly in order to accommodate feature film length? There was good reason for the story to be as short as it was: IT MADE PERFECT SENSE.

Moreover, "the Cat" just couldn't get away from, shall we say, "previous roles." I had to look at the marque on my way out to be sure that I had seen "The Cat in the Hat" and not "Austin Powers: The Cat who Trashed Me."

Fine, so we want to make a Cat in the Hat movie. Why not use the animation style made famous by the Toy Story movies, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo? They use it with the fish in this film and, frankly, the fish steals the show.

Think of how horrific these movies would have been with human actors in too much costuming. Tom Hanks in retro cowboy attire and Tim Allen looking more like the Tin Man than Buzz Lightyear? John Goodman covered with fur? A one-eyed Billy Crystal in tights? Ellen Degeneres in a blue mermaid suit? Woooo! Way too frightening for me!

Let's just hope that nothing like this happens again. I cannot begin to believe that Dr. Seuss would condone any of this were he alive. Bag this one and read the original book.

Summary: offensive, dreadful, boring, too long
Review: What a terrible film. This tries to extend a short and charming childrens book into an 82-minute disaster and succeeds. It is far too long and was made in the worst time. First of all, it's just a bad premise for a Hollywood movie. Secondly, it sure as hell isn't family friendly. Thirdly, we've got Mike Myers acting like Jim Carrey's worst performances. This is a film for braindead people who want to smother honesty amidst endless brightly colored artifice.

Mike Myers' "cat" is smelly, gross, and terrible to behold. He goes ahead and moons the children in one scene among many... it is wretched. I would never allow my children to see this movie. I would much rather personally read the charming book by Dr. Suess to my children than expose them to this vile material. Sigh.. yet another movie in the pathetic "Patch Adams" vein... a movie that sells itself as charming, soulful, and family friendly (with a message) but is really just... ABYSMALLY AWFUL.
