Rating: Summary: A piece of *Buzzer* floating in the toilet! A total loser! Review: This is the greatest travesty that has ever been done to any novel. What's even worse is that this movie was a supposed to be an adaptation of the classic children's book "The Cat In The Hat" by none other than Dr. Seuss. This film does a disasterous job at bringing the elemtns of that story to the big screen. Even the ocasionally clunky "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" was entire universes ahead of this garbage. I highly admire Mike Myers's eccentricity that he has brought to his characters on the big screen (Austin Powers for example) but on "Cat In THe Hat", he brings about the greatest misstep of his acting career. This film is also just littered with unnecessary gross humor and unfortunately, even the numerous (gas emitting) jokes fail to even induce any signs of laughter in me. In fact, the numerous gross humor jokes just work to drive an already lousy movie further and further into the pits of ignorance. I had the misfortune of seeing this movie with a friend of mines and after seeing it, I had no choice but to ask myself "Who on earth came up with this?!". I can't believe that this despicable movie is riding so high at the box office! This is a massive disgrace to the excellence of what Dr. Seuss brought forth to children during his lifetime. They should just simply take this movie out of the theatres and never release this on DVD EVER!! The biggest disgrace I have ever been subjected to.
Rating: Summary: Shame Review: Having gorwn up with Cat in the Hat books and stories when I was a child, I found this movie to be a shame. The way they were able to bring the story to life was brilliant, but the Character of the Cat in the Hat was simply shameful. I was sickened, and do recommend to any and all parents and guardians to watch it first before allowing their child to see it. I find it hard to believe it's rated at PG. it should be PG-13. It truly is a shame to see such a wonderful story become a waste.
Rating: Summary: i would give it zero stars! Review: This movie is nothing more of a complete mess. I am sorry Dr. Seuss for the catastrophe these people have made. This movie has so many things wrong with it I dont know where to start. I guess I can start with the script. The script has some of the most idiotic lines I have ever heard in a movie. I found myself constantly laughing at what the characters were saying, not because it was funny (because it wasnt), but because the lines were so awful I couldnt believe I was hearing this. The acting is so so. The set is amazing. That is the only thing good about the movie. Props to Bo Welch for the set. But, mad thumbs down to him for having no sense of direction in the movie. Where was Mr. Welch during the making of this movie? I have never seen so many random and pointless clips in a movie. It was almost like Mr. Welch brought Mike Myers to the set and was like, "Here, work with all the props and do what you normally do that's funny. We'll just film it and decide what's good and not." It was almost like if Mr. Welch heard a joke that morning from Mike Myers and was like, "Hey we should somehow put that in our movie cause' its really funny." But of course it wasnt. I constantly found myself asking, "Havent I seen this joke before in one of Mike Myers previous movies." And on a side note: I have never seen so many crude statements in my life in a movie rated PG. I dont know how the MPAA did this. The movie was filled with inuendos of swear words and other dirty sayings. I know Dr. Seuss was rolling in his grave when Mike Myers picked up a garden hoe and said, "Oh you dirty hoe!" Inappropriate and unbelievable that this was in a Dr. Seuss movie. The Paris Hilton scene was also uncalled for and completely tasteless. Just plain terrible and out-of-place. So if a movie was this bad, then why on Earth would Universal allow this. One word...money. This was all a big marketing ploy to get people's money. I mean c'mon, you hear that there is going to be a movie about the all time childeren's favorite "The Cat in the Hat" and so you flock to the theater; that's what I did. At least the movie admits that it was only made to scam people out of their money. During the movie, the cat abruptly stops all the action and does an advertisement for Universal Studios Flordia Theme Park. No joke! At least this movie had the guts to admit it was just made to rip people off and advertise for Universal. This movie is a disgrace to Dr. Seuss and to the one of the best children's book ever. I just hope they dont corrupt "Yurtle the Turtle." My regards go to Mr. Bo Welch, for your movie was so bad it makes me want to be rude and belch. That is what you have done to this children's tale. You have corrupted it and made it fail.
Rating: Summary: Our kids have never laughed so hard! Review: I wasn't sure what to expect of the movie, when we took our 7 year old son and his friend, and our 4 year old daughter. The boys absolutely howled with laughter! My daughter enjoyed most of it, but she was a little confused by some parts - kind of how I remember feeling when watching Yellow Submarine as a kid. This is definitely a 2003 version of Cat in the Hat, a more modern version of the classic. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed the movie - very creative, intriguing, and something included for all ages. Sure, there was some innuendo for the adults, and it went right over the heads of the kids as was planned. Good movie!
Rating: Summary: Review Review: As entertainment , Cat In The Hat is barely so-so. It aims at easy targets. And it barks when it ought to purr. Really, you shouldn't have to add burps, farts, and dog pee to Dr.Seuss. If directing bad movies were a sin to confess, Bo Welch would say oops for making this mess. The movie works so hard to achieve a sense of whimsy that you feel exhausted long before it's over. It's a vulgar, uninspired lump of poisioned eye candy. I recommend not seeing this movie at all.
Rating: Summary: Better than the book Review: Took my daughters, prepared to suffer, but the movie was much better than my expectations.
Rating: Summary: Too adult for most children Review: I can't count how many times I fought the urge to walk out of this movie. I took my 4 year old to see it, and was relieved that he was young enough to enjoy the silliness, yet too young to understand much of the humor aimed at adults. The level of poor taste demonstrated in including such allusions in a movie clearly marketed to children was appalling. Save your money and rent How the Grinch Stole Christmas if your taste for Seuss needs quenching.
Rating: Summary: Leontyne Price is better than Britney Review: Leontyne Price is a better singer than Spears. This movie is awful. Oprah should be ashamed that she actually did a whole show on it. Dr. Seuss is rolling in his grave. Oprah should have instead done a show on "Winged Migration".
Rating: Summary: If I could give it a triple minus - I would. Review: Amazon put The Cat in the Hat books in the 5-8 age catagory, yet Universal saw fit to include, swearwords, implied blasphemy, vulgarity and sexual innuendo in a children's classic. I took four children to see this film, three left in tears having watched their childhood illusions shattered. Please don't take your children to see this film without watching it first.
Rating: Summary: Dreadful, dirty humor--not a kid's movie Review: This was an awful movie. Mike Myers performance was way over the top and not at all funny. Some of his jokes were obscene and I was shocked these were included in a kid's movie. Fortunately my 6 yr old son seemed not to understand too many of these. I just groaned in my seat as the film pressed on. The only highlights in this dismal movie were Alec Baldwin's performance and Thing One and Thing Two dashing about the house an impersonating police officers. In addition, the story poorly resembled the book. I don't think you can do a film much worse than this. What were they thinking of????????
