Summary: Slight disappointment to the Einstein collection.
Review: We have just about every video in the series for our 2 year old and most are good. However, comparing this baby dolittle world animals to neighborhood animals, this one is inferior. The footage of the nine or so wild animals (elephant, giraffe, tropical birds, turtles, dolphin, fish, lion, monkey, tiger) is great, as is the music (much like the other videos). However, the puppeteering is SO tiring after a while, and just not very good in this one. Way too much time is wasted in between animal sequences, with dull puppet displays and babies horribly dressed in animal costumes. The toys are neat but otherwise, show us more animals and lighten up on the other stuff please! If you are trying to choose between baby dolittle's, buy neighborhood animals, there are probably better wild animal videos out there.

Summary: One of the better Baby Einstein DVDs
Review: This was the first Baby Einstein DVD we purchased and our son, who was about a year old then and is now 16 months, has enjoyed it very much. He is a very active child but for quite a while he would sit completely still to watch, and now he has hand motions for some of the scenes and applauds at the end. As other people have mentioned, the animal footage is more interesting for an adult to watch than the endless parade of toys that fill up a lot of the other videos in the series (especially the classixal music ones). I personally like the quiet atmosphere of the video -- no loud noises, flashy pictures or dialogue -- just animal footage, adorable puppet shows and a small number of toys. My son has learned to recognize the animals shown and even has favorite scenes. Definitely get DVD because the baby will want to watch "continuous play"!

Summary: beautiful, colorful animal footage
Review: This DVD has beautiful footage of animals in their habitats. It's broken into 3 main categories of Animals in the Jungle, Animals in the Ocean, and Animals on the Savannah. In the Jungle section, the animals shown are: Tiger, Tropical Bird, and Monkey. The Ocean segment features: Sea Turtle, Dolphin, and Fish. The Savannah segment shows: Elephants, Giraffes, and Lions. Each animal has about 5 minutes dedicated to it which includes a musical video, toys shown of that animal, and a mini puppet-show that introduces the next animal. I bought it for my 2 yr old son because he loves Elephants and it's been a hit (he loves the whole thing).

Summary: our seven month old loves it
Review: I think it's hard to review Baby Einstein videos, because as an adult there are so many things that seem annoying or bothersome that are not so for my child. Yes, I find the kids dressed up in animal costumes annoying, but my son loves them. The puppetry (in this one especially) doesn't make any sense to me either, but my son loves it.We own 8 various Baby Einstein videos, some DVD and some VHS and my son likes this one as well as all the others. We also own the Neighborhood Animals video and I don't really understand why some reviewers prefer it over this one. They are slightly different, but my son doesn't prefer one of them over the other (at this age anyway). The only thing I've noticed is that he likes to have a variety rather than watch the same one every day (that's how our collection got so big). As a parent, I actually enjoy watching World Animals with him more than Neighborhood Animals, because I find the videos of the animals more interesting. While I would prefer to watch a nature special on PBS, my son enjoys the way Baby Einstein breaks up the footage with animation and puppetry (however corny it seems to me), it helps his short attention span out. I do recommend the DVD over the VHS if you are choosing between the two. The DVDs are a much better value in my opinion. We've already begun to wear out our VHS tapes (the sound is garbled in spots now) and I love the interactive flash cards and other extras that come with the DVDs. All in all, my son watches this video over and over again even back to back sometimes and loves every minute. To me that says it all.

Review: my dd loves this movie! she danced to all the music and loved seeing the animals. the puppets made her laugh (she just turned one). the colors are wonderful and keep her attention. if your child loves animals, then they will love this movie!

I purchased this along with the Baby Einstein - Numbers Nursery
DVD for my 1 year old nephew. It is a thouroghly captivating video for the child and is actually tolerable (as much as is humanly possible) for adult viewing. This is not your fathers Barney video. I definitely recomend these videos for all children.

Summary: Perfect for 1 1/2 year old
Review: We just got this DVD about a month ago, but it has become our 20 mo. old daughter's hand's down favorite. "Jane Monkey, watch it?" is just about her most common sentence, and she talks constantly about the animals she's seen on the video. It's also helped her learn the names of a whole new set of animals. She now recognizes zebras and elephants off screen, too, and she's working on the differences between lions/tigers and parrots/lovebirds. We've loved most of the Baby Einstein videos, but this is our pick for 1 1/2-2 year olds.

Summary: My two year old loves this DVD.
Review: She loved the Baby Mozart and Baby Einstein videos when she was a baby. I had not played her a Baby Einstein video for a long time before I picked up the "World Animals" DVD. She absolutely loves animals, so this DVD really catches her attention. The music is great, the visuals are very attractive, and my daughter really enjoys watching it. I highly recommend this DVD for any child who loves animals.

Summary: The Animals ARE The Show
Review: The Baby Einstein machine seems to be running out of steam and originality, and is now cranking out new material regardless of the quality of the content. In this DVD, they don't even try to put a coherent show together. The idea seems to be to show lots of incredible footage of animals in their natural habitat, and just throw in whatever they have on hand as fillers. Even the name wasn't finalised, changing from Baby Doolittle to Baby Einstein - World Animals without explanation. The puppet handlers were allowed to do a sloppy, lazy job, and Jane the Monkey had far too much on-screen time for her lame and tired antics. This is already a short show, so imagine how much shorter it would be if you were to cut out the padding material.
An unnecessary piece was the crayon drawing of the jungle, with the huge bananas growing from palm or coconut trees. If this is the first Baby Einstein DVD you have seen, you would probably think it deserves a higher rating, but if you were to look at earlier ones like Baby Van Gogh, Baby Newton, or Baby Shakepeare, you will see a clear regression. Having said all that, the footage of the animals saves the show to a great extent, with a wide cross section of animals (even though a little heavy on the big cat side)doing what they do naturally. The music synchronised very well with the animal actions, and there is a nice catchy song in "Hey Little Turtle..." It would have been a little more helpful if they had put the names of the animals on screen, because not all of the animals shown are known throughout the world, such as meerkats or spider monkeys, and it would help parents in identifying the animals while watching with their kids. Worth buying, or better yet, borrowing just to see the animals.
