Rating: Summary: An Extraordinary Contemporary Masterpiece Review: There aren't many contemporary movies that I genuinely enjoy. Frankly, the art of movie-making has been debased considerably over the past few decades. This beautifully touching story is certainly an exception. The story is simple and effective, the acting is superb (possibly Pitt's finest perfomance), and the cinematography is breath-taking. Another reason to watch this fantastic film - the always marvelous and endearing Emily Lloyd in a brilliant supporting role.
Rating: Summary: Great movie Review: This movie i thought was very well done in the setting of montana country side. Brad pitt is great in his role. I like to fly fish and the movie depicted the sport wonderfully.
Rating: Summary: Great movie! Review: I rented this DVD the other night and was quite pleased with the widescreen edition. Being a fly fisherman myself, I couldn't help but associate myself the the main characters. I wish there had been some special features on the DVD, however, the movie is so excellent, the widescreen adaptation is enough reason to purchase this DVD.
Rating: Summary: unbelievably excellent...extraordinary...etc... Review: This video is beautifully expressed. Paul, Norman and their parents are sure one heck of a family. I especially liked the fact that the boys could go out with their dad and go fly fishing. So they have that as they're "own special together event". I recommend this show to any family who is looking for something to bring the family together. Because it sure does.
Rating: Summary: All-time Favorite Movie Review: This movie is the best I have ever seen. Good acting, good story, great scenery. I have seen this movie many many times but I still love it as much as the first time I saw it.
Rating: Summary: Heartwarming period film. Review: I didn't get into the fly fishing aspect of the film. It's the wonderful story about two brothers that fascinated me. Sure the Montana scenery and the period settings and costumes are fabulous -- but the relationship of the brothers is really what makes this film special. Skerritt is excellent in the role of the minister father. The older brother and his girlfriend are also very good in their roles. But Brad Pitt is nothing short of outstanding as Pauly the younger brother. He portrays the funny, well liked, fun loving guy who also shows that he cares for and respects his older brother. Pitt's energy and enthusiam lights up the screen. His expressions and actions are perfect for the role. The contrast between the brothers is quite interesting. Pauly has decided he'll stay in Montana and continue his successful career with the newspaper. The older brother is not quite sure of his calling and passion in life other than that he is crazy about his girlfriend Jesse. As he finally gets an offer for a professorship, his brother Pauly is eager to celebrate and congratulate him. The mutual affection between the brothers remains even as the brothers grow up. Redford did a fantastic job of presenting this tale with so much warmth and character!
Rating: Summary: A Fishermans Dream Review: A movie filled with some of the most spectacular scenery a film could wish to deliver. The sweeping valleys of Montana and the beautiful rivers that flow through them leaves one breathless many times throughout the film. Robert Redford's direction and narration in this film is a postage stamp of this mans ability. Norman Maclean (whose autobiography serves as a basis for the film) leads an amazing and complex life; in what could be the considered an ideal life for any would be fisherman around the world. A must see.
Rating: Summary: A little too excellent. Review: It is rare that I will watch a movie more than ten times but that is exactly what I did and am going to keep on doing with "A River Runs Through It."
Rating: Summary: Stunning Masterpiece Review: If I had to choose just one movie as my favorite, this would be it. Everything about it-- dialogue, acting, scenery, plot-- is seamlessly bound by Redford. He made a wise decision to maintain most of the actual conversations from the novella; the Maclean family is wonderfully reconstructed by the actors, especially Brenda Blethyn and Craig Sheffer. I can't stress enough the pure physical and emotional beauty of this film.
Rating: Summary: A majestic tale of love, loyalty, and loss that rambles Review: The cinematography was well deserving of its Oscar award, and this role set Brad Pitt up for the megastar title bestowed on him by Legends of the Fall--a similar and more emotionally satisfying experience.
