Summary: An astonishing and life-altering film.
Review: The most poignant and powerful film I have seen. This movie shakes the viewer from her comfortable seat and calls her to question not only the dominant paradigm but personal values and beliefs. Baraka should be seen by everyone because it has the ability to affect us all and calls us to question our lifestyles. The cinematography is incredible and the music is carefully crafted. Definately a film to be viewed on the big screen, but this should not discourage anyone from renting it.

Summary: Best Movie I never saw
Review: I have seen this movie so many times I cannot count. Each time I have seen it I see something new that I miss the viewing before. Each time I see it I forget something that I saw before. It is a piece of art that will go down in my collection as the best and most moving piece of visual art that I have ever seen. Unforunatley I was unable to see it on the big screen, but I have seen it on a huge projection screen and it is fantastic. If you have never seen this movie, rent it or buy it. You will not regret it. If you are like me and have seen it, but not seen it fully, watch it again. I firmly believe it will take me an entire lifetime to watch this film.

Summary: It's not a movie it's a screensaver...
Review: ..but it is very poignant in it's portrayal of human and natural beauty about to be annihilated by MacWorld. The devotional practices of the people are hypnotic, and devoid of the standard culturally biased standpoint, you become involved at a sub-cerebral level. The cinematography is gorgeous, I would have liked to have seen it on the big screen. I really hope it gets released in DVD as this is a buyer but this movie is so un-Hollywood I'm not sure thats going to happen. My only complaint is that the depictions of modern life are entirely negative and the more "natural" states are wholly positive, like performing backbreaking manual labor, being riddled with parasites and dying of old age at 40 after having 12 kids, 7 of whom died is such a great thing. It struck me as lazy and insulting to the reality of these people that these bourgeois western film makers would insert a coffee-table social construct into an otherwise fine movie. More environmental damage is caused by primitive farming techniques than almost anything else. Ain't no going back to the Garden of Eden, we got kicked out remember?

Summary: Fascinating observations of people and honored places
Review: This film has never lost its excitement for me even though I have watched it many times. As a person who has travelled around the world, I use it often as a gift for people who may not experience the places and the mesmerizing sounds the planet has to offer. As an 8mm film with no dialogue, our children did not see the point of it. As a film with no dialog but wonderful tracks of music, chants, it is a great meditational adventure. My favorite.

Summary: Breathtaking cinematography
Review: A contrast between nature and modern civilization. A film full of sounds and wonderful images, words are superfluous. Simply astonishing.

Summary: Unique life-affirming postcard from Planet Earth.
Review: I consistently rate this film amongst my all time favorites. It is in a class by itself. I write this review primarily as a means to express my wish that "Baraka" be released on DVD.

Does anyone know if there are plans to release on DVD?

Summary: Can we give more stars?
Review: I first saw this in 70mm when I was chemically altered (of couse I do not advocate such abuse; read the next line). I am not certain if I have come back. I now view the world if I were watching this movie. The video does not do it justice but see it anyhow. At least twice...

Summary: Most intense film
Review: I saw this movie about 3 years ago on the campus of the University of Kansas. It was such a powerful film with the combined images and music sycronized so intensly. This has been the only film I have found to creatively display lifestyles around the globe. You won't forget a minute of it!

Summary: Please transfer this amazing title to DVD!
Review: I first saw this movie on a 70mm screen. It is visual poetry at its best, stunning and magical. A meditative journey through earth and spirit. This movie will be forever robbed of its magistry if it is not transfered to DVD.

Summary: Stunning.
Review: This is a movie filled with the most breathtaking visuals from the most sacred spots on the planet. There is no overt plot here, no dialog or quick edits designed to keep the attention of a MTV generation. Sit down to watch this movie with a calm mind and prepare to be rewarded with some of the most beautifull scenery you'll ever encounter. Scenes have been shot at a variety of locations - from St. Peters in Rome to Karnak in Egypt. The accompanying score is as breathtaking as well - suited to the seamless beauty this movie captures. A must see for anyone who may have forgotten exactly how beautiful the world can be
