Review: The best of the movies and the most faithful to the book! I had taped this when I saw it on TV but the tape got messed so I either will tape it again whenever it's shown again or I will buy the video or DVD. I recommend this movie which would be so great to see again!

Summary: Ideal for the entire family
Review: This movie is beautiful--just beautiful. It's my favorite one of the three "Anne" films that have been released. It's the kind of movie that you can watch with your whole family and everyone can enjoy it for some reason or another. Avonlea is displayed BEAUTIFULLY, and little Anne's spirit lightens up the whole movie. Megan Follows is a truly wonderful actress, and her luminous talent produces Anne Shirley, a memorable character that you will never forget. At the beginning of the movie, she is a talkative and heartening little orphan who comes to live with Marilla Cuthbert and her brother Matthew in Green Gables on Prince Edward Island. By the time the film reaches its conclusion, she has blossomed into an intelligent, mature, and levelheaded young adult. But watching her gradually make the transformation throughout the movie is a pure joy. What can I say? This is Anne Shirley--a hilariously funny, sweet, lovable, smart, and feisty girl who is always getting into trouble, but worms her way into everyone's heart. This movie is a winner, a classic. There's a little bit of humor, a little bit of sadness, and a whole lot of entertainment packed into this one film. Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, Jonathan Crombie, and Richard Farnsworth round up the main cast, and their acting is superb. You will enjoy every single bit of this movie, and you'll wonder why you waited so long to experience the magic of it. Review: This is a terrific adaptation of the classic L.M. Montgomery coming of age story. It centers on young Anne Shirley, a strong willed, independent orphan who is adopted by siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. They originally wanted to adopt a boy to help out at their farm, but instead received a surprise when Anne arrived at the train station. Anne's adventures growing up are both funny and heart-warming. This is a fantastic movie that will please youngsters and adults alike, as there is something here for everyone! Megan Follows is excellent as Anne Shirley, Colleen Dewhurst is wonderful as the stern but loving Marilla and Richard Farnsworth is great as gentle Matthew. The supporting cast also give splendid performances. Highly recommended!

Summary: For anyone adicted to romance!
Review: This is a beautiful story about a young girl being adopted into a family and her journy into love and adulthood. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Caution! It is addictive and a good tear-jerker. Funny at times (because of all the trouble she gets into) and sad at others. Once you see it, you will watch it over and over. You will also want Anne of Avonlea and the new continuing story video. I have all three and each is a wonderful dramatic experience in video.

Summary: ALMOST PERFECT, BUT TROUBLESOME AUDIO/VIDEO
Review: This really is perfect entertainment. The trouble is that the DVD transfers on ANNE OF GREEN GABLES and ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: THE SEQUEL have a disturbing habit of slipping audio - meaning that their picture, at times, is out of sync with the audio. One suddenly feels like one is watching a poorly dubbed Japanese film - surely not the producers' intention. Sullivan Entertainment has turned out a wonderful production, but a not-so-wonderful transfer to DVD.

Review: This is the most charming story of the life of the mischievous yet lovable Anne Shirley, based on the books by L.M. Montgomery. It is sure to touch your heart, to make you laugh...and cry, and make you fall in love with all of Green Gables. Good, wholesome entertainment for the whole family. I've owned the Anne series for years and watched them over and over again. You MUST see this movie!

Review: Being a fan of L.M. Montgomery's Anne Of Green Gables books I really loved this movie and have seen it several times, I see that some people have complained that it didn't follow every little detail from the book but I think it is pretty faithful to the book and I think Megan Follows was wonderful as Anne Shirley and Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth were wonderful as Marilla and Matthew Cutbert! One of my favorite parts from Anne Of Green Gables was when Anne was in the dory boat on her Lake Of Shining Waters reciting the Alfred Lord Tennyson poem the Lady Of Shalott, that was the first time I had ever heard of the poem and it is now my favorite! I very highly recommend this movie on VHS or DVD!

Summary: an excellent adaptation of a classic story
Review: This movie is just amazing! Megan Follows IS Anne, and the other actors fit their roles perfectly. I saw this for the first time on PBS, having already read the entire series. Normally I hold to the rule that the book is always better but this may be an exception. I've seen it countless times and never grow tired of it. My favorite part is when Marilla is instructing Anne to say her prayers and Anne says "Mrs. Hammond told me God made my hair red on purpose, and I've never cared for him since". Classic!
By the way, Anne of Avonlea is just as good, but in my opinion the third part is lacking in charm. It is a good movie, but not great. Still, you should see all three!

Summary: A film to treasure forever!
Review: This is the first and the finest of all the Anne movies. This movie has so much to offer just on its own, though, that it is easy to see why it has become a classic.First, I want to make clear, despite being over 3 hours long, you won't bored for a second. The beautiful scenery, the superb acting, and the masterful writing keep this movie going--you won't feel as if you have watched a 3 hour plus movie. Megan Follows stars as the orphan, Anne (spelt with an e) Shirley. She has had a lonely and tumultuous childhood--moving from one orphanage to the next, and one home to another (including the Hammonds--who are quite the type you wouldn't want as parents!), a twist of fate comes when Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and Matthew (Richard Farmsworth) Cuthbert, of Green Gables, Avonlea, accidentally adopt her. From there on, Anne's life--as well as every else's, in the provincial Avonlea--is changed. But, however, I might add, Anne does get herself into plenty of trouble and she has Gilbert Blythe (Johnathan Crombie)--her rival, admirer, and academic equal--to deal with. I can't say enough about the acting. Every actor or actress does and excellent job portraying their role, and you will like even the characters who despise Anne. Schyler Grant especially does a good job as Diana Barry, Anne's best friend and kindred spirit. This film is full of love and many messages but even if you ignore such phrases as "better smart than pretty" or "tomorrow is fresh with no mistakes in it," you still have a great film. There are so many moments, too, that are so touching and others that are so funny, that you may be disappointed--as I usually am--when the 3 hours plus have come to an end. One just never wants it to end, but that is why ANNE OF AVONLEA, the sequel to this, was made. I will add this--no matter how many times I have seen this--and I watch it quite often--it still seems fresh, funny, and inspiring. (An example is when PBS earlier this summer did basically a Anne-Anne-Anne weekends--even though I own the movies, I still watched it on PBS every weekend, from June to August, and that is quite a bit of Anne watching for anybody!) It is a rare movie that can succeed in not becoming old or passe, and this by far one of the very best of those kinds of rare movies. So watch the movie and enjoy!
