Summary: At long last, a "Secret" revealed!
Review: "The Secret of NIMH" told a self-contained story (and an epic one, at that), but a few loose ends were left to tantalize the imagination. Part II picks up the threads of that tale, and weaves an equally stirring saga, while adding a few shocking plot twists and rousing musical numbers for good measure. In the tradition of one of my favorite plot devices, we learn that young Timothy Brisby has an important destiny to fulfill--he is a "chosen one," if you will. He journeys to the Rats' new home, Thorn Valley. After seeing the first film, I always wondered what sort of utopian society the Rats would be able to create, liberated from the need to hide in a farmhouse rosebush, and "NIMH 2" delivers a greater spectacle than I could have conceived. In the wondrous splendor of Thorn Valley, he meets (for the first time) his old benefactors Justin and Mr. Ages. Brutus the Guard also makes a welcome appearance, and finally speaks! Providing much more characterization than his appearance in the first film, "NIMH 2" made Brutus one of my favorite animated characters ever. New characters are added, including Jenny the Mouse and Cecil the Bug. A few surprises pop up along the way. I don't want to spoil anything, but remember the mice who got sucked into the ventilation system while attempting to escape from NIMH? Well, not ALL of them were killed... But the most gut-wrenching shock of all is the revelation that Timothy's brother Martin has turned to the "dark side." All-star talent contributes to the journey, with Ralph Macchio and Eric Idle (who continues his tradition of lending his voice talents to awesome animated sagas) providing depth and feeling to the charming characters. Best of all, Dom DeLuise returns as Jeremy the Crow!!! The animation is quite artful, for a movie that went direct-to-video. It's absolutely on par with Disney's video sequels. It looks even better on DVD. Not only is "the Secret of NIMH 2" a satisfying sequel in its own right, but it also leaves a small thread to be picked up by a third film. The mystical amulet that saved the Brisby home is never mentioned. Perhaps it's gone missing...

Summary: Get "Secret of NIMH", but not "Secret of NIMH 2".
Review: (We NIMH fans might become laughing stocks because of this movie...) Buy the classic Secret of NIMH (without the 2!) instead. It will enthrall you for years to come. This sequel will blow your mind away, I tell you. When you see this one, you will cringe... P.S. Go to Steve's homepage and check out all the screenshots before you buy it. (IE try-b4-u-buy) BTW, I had to edit this post so that it won't be removed. It used to contain a lot of... spiteful remarks.

Summary: A True Must See
Review: A True must see as far as wanting to see bad sequils go...it's only a shame that I can't rate a movie with less than a star. This was the bottom as far as I'm concerned. I read the origional book...and the first movie wasn't that acurate, but it was still a good movie. But what MGM did (or what it seems) took the worst parts of the first movie and made a sequil out of them. There was too much emphasis on Jonathan Brisby...first, it wasn't just Jonathan who saved the rats....it was he and Mr Ages. (read the book) Nicodemus was not a profit...at most he was an alchemist...and he didn't die in the book (read for yourself) The Rats of NIMH were larger than normal rats, let alone mice...so why was Timothy close in size to the rats? There was too much singing. Why were the rats still stealing from man? Wasn't this why they went to thorn valley? NIMH isn't an evil place...It's an institute for science....and they experemented with drugs...not electricity. What ever happened to Don Bluth anyways?? Was the idea of this movie to TAKE AWAY from the first....because if it was, it surely accomplished this. The only refining quality was that it did something with the lost six mice. I didn't say that I liked the direction they took, but they did do something. And I will once again say it, If you haven't yet read the book, do so. If you have kids you want to entertain, try reading it to them instead of turning on the television...your kids will like it more if you read to them.

Review: Absolutely a trashed down horrific catasrophe. But it does compare to Disney's current films! I only pray Don Bluth didnt have anything to do with this sewage. His first film, The Secret of Nimh was a masterpiece. Pray that every store pulls this off the shelves!!

Summary: Saturday Morning Cartoon at Best
Review: All I can say is that Eric Idle sure needs money if he decided to be a voice in this. It would also be good if the story board would keep to the story line, too. What I mean by that has several meanings to it. First off, there are a few inconsistancies with the rats at Thorn Valley. The Valley was to a be a sanctuary, a place of hiding. If you follow this movie, any self respecting human within 15 miles of this place would notice at least something *you have to see it to know what I'm talking about*. Another interesting part is this: you know why the rats went to Thorn Valley to begin with don't you? They went so that they would never steal, never leach off of mankind. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!! The writers had them run off to a garbage heap and steal *A BIG NONO!!* Well, small details aside, I won't even go into the animation *or lack thereof*. The fact that Martin grew up to have a British accent is bad enough, but a barking mad scientist, a chariot race that looks somewhat similar to the experiences of a certain prince of Egypt, and a hairy talking catapillar all add up to one thing: A BAD CARTOON. I would say that something like this would bring down the original, but it is so UNLIKE the first one that I don't think that would be an issue. If you REALLY want to see it, by all means go ahead. Just don't expect anything anywhere near what the actual books or the first movie was. *I'd pick no stars, but that option is not available*

Summary: Inferior direct-to-video sequel to animated classic
Review: As a sequel to Don Bluth's brilliant animated film, The Secret of Nimh, this direct-to-video release is a miserable flop. As an animated film on its own, it has a few good ideas, but they are weighted down by the pitiful execution. This film was not produced by Don Bluth or anyone who had anything to do with the original film, and it shows both storywise and animation-wise. The plot and animation aren't much better than 80's Saturday morning cartoons, and there are numerous inconsistencies with the original film (too many for me to list here). Also, Nimh can do without being turned into a musical; the songs are, for the most part, good, but they're in the wrong movie; almost NONE of them fit in with the universe of the first movie. For that matter, most of the new characters (Cecil the caterpillar, Dr. Valentine, the henchcats Muriel and Floyd) don't fit in with the universe of the first movie, either. As a sequel, it's embarrasing. As a film on its own, it's just a below average animated film.

Summary: Lack of plot, inspiration, funding and talent!
Review: Fans of the original film and the various books will be sorely dissapointed by this sad attempt at a sequel. Animation wise, it is about par with saturday morning cartoons. Plot wise the same (it would make a good saturday morning special if you can ignore the former). In general, this film offers nothing beyond the standard mediocrity of slick animated musicals for children under the age of 6...only it isn't quite as good as those. If you were hoping for the sophistication of O'Brien's novel, the charm of Jane Conly's sequels, or the brilliant animation of the first film, don't even bother with Timmy to the Rescue. As a side note, given as it barely lives up to films like land before time IV (!!!), it will no doubt be filed away as some sort of corporate blunder.

Review: Great clasic's have been created from MGM (Metro Goldeoyo Mayer ) such as Tom Sawyer ,Chttiy Chitty Bang Bang ,and The Wizard of Oz corrected that's 4 if you inculde teh classic Sercet Of Nimh 2 Timmy Too The rescue. I mean so near the end get's a little spooky but once you watch it ,it just goes from low rat too top dog .I really like Justin he has the singing voice of a angel ,on a scale of 1 too 100 this would get a 100 +
considering the oringal film mom is still cleaning up the barph when I last watched the Sercet Of Nimh 1 that is the second one is 100 per cent better I mean as least Timmy wasn't SICK in the second one i think seeing a movie with a dieing mouse/person kind of has a bad infulence on LITTLE kid's my cousin's adore the second one they say watch again they repeatdly say that I might add ,sure the first one would get a 20 for me the second one would get a 100 ++ you got too learn the first one has bad infulence on kid's and it's more violent keep that in mind .

Summary: whats wrong with everyone this movie is great!
Review: I dont see how so many people can be so sorly dissapointed with NIMH 2. It is an awesome movie, more than equaling the previous film. I wish more people would take a good look at this awesome sequal, since the original wasn't all that impressive either! For example there was no detail about the rats escape or life in the boniface estate. There's a lot in this film if people would just look harder and I don't see any reason not too.
