Summary: DARK
Review: THIS MOVIE HAS GOT TO BE THE CLEVEREST TAKE ON A COMIC BOOK-BASED MOVIE. TOO BAD IT'S ONE OF NEESON'S FORGOTTEN MOVIES

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Dark, gothic and violent
Review: A brillant make by Raimi, it was also what got Neeson noticed. Action packed and violence with plenty to spare, this is one to watch. Followed by two sequels that should be burned.

Summary: I must have been drunk when I bought this one
Review: Well, what can I say. I KNOW that Liam Neeson can do better work than this, example Schinder's List, but weak plot, weak script, weak movie, get out the Jack Daniel's and call over your buddies if you want to get through this movie. Odds are you will have a better time shooting the breeze with your buddies than watching this.

Summary: A creative journey with over the top drama-camp fun.
Review: Following Sam Raimi's career has been an enjoyable experience and Darkman was an important step in his film making process. The story is much like a fairy tale; simple on the surface with deeper themes underneath. This is a visually stunning movie with a lot of humor and intentional melodrama.

Summary: wildly unentertaining
Review: Sam Raimi directed Darkman, so you would expect a lot of fun out of the guy who directed the Evil Dead movies. (He made Darkman before Army of Darkness) But I never laughed during this movie. If I did I forgot but there wasn't much to make me like this film. Liam Neeson seems to be the film's saving grace. He's an amazing actor that can play any role, although I prefer him in roles like the ones he did in Schindler's List and Michael Collins and Les Miserables. For a truly fun action film I recommend Army of Darkness.

Summary: VERY DARK!!!
Review: I have always loved those deep dark movies such as the crow, The matrix, blade, dracula and dark city. Darkman is definitely one of those movies. Every now and then cool movies like this one come along and make you think about something other than reality. Unfortunatly the movie probably did not have a big budget so some of the effects look kinda cheap, but that doesn't matter when the rest of the movie is so entertaining. Enjoy!

Summary: I Liked this superhero action movie
Review: Despite some of the bad reviews this film has received, I rather enjoyed the dark hero tragic tale of Darkman. This is no clean cut Superman type, but rather, a man thrust into the thirst for revenge much like Batman, the Dark Knight. Great visual style, this movie keeps your eyes glued to the screen. For fans of comic heroes such as Spawn, the Crow, and Batman (the Dark Knight), this is a movie not to be missed!

Summary: CULT MOVIES 55
Review: 55. DARKMAN (action, 1990) Dr. Peyton Westlake (Liam Neeson) and his partner are on the verge of creating synthetic skin. But somehow they're unable to decipher why the new skin tissue breaks up under light yet holds its form under the dark. Before coming up with their breakthrough they are set upon by henchman Durant (Larry Drake). He thinks that Westlake knows about a lost document that implicates his superiors in criminal dealings. The lab is destroyed and Westlake's partner killed but he miraculously survives. His body, however, is left virtually charred and in a state of coma in a hospital. He undergoes a radical medical procedure that brings him back from the dead with almost superhuman strength. Left without an identity, home or money he seeks the help of his fiancée Julie (Frances McDormand) but she flees in terror not knowing who he is. Peyton finds refuge back in his bombed out lab and sets out to reconstruct it in hopes of using the technology he created to find the men who destroyed him.

Critique: Enjoyable cartoon/action film of what could've been a lame attempt at integrating comic book themes into cinematic form. Creator Sam Raimi finally showed the promise of his auspicious 'Evil Dead' movies which revitalized a flagging staple. Somehow the convoluted screenplay (the product of no less than 6 writers) and the anarchic, 'splatter' mix are exhilaratingly blended together. Raimi creates another wickedly fun character on that of Dr. Westlake/Darkman. He had previously explored this facet in the hero role of 'Ash' (deliciously played by Bruce Campbell- who makes a cameo) from the 'Evil Dead' series. Both characters share strong personalities who are taken on a rollercoaster ride of horror and psychosis. Then finally resurface as a God-like-comic book superhero. And what a unique and wonderful creation Darkman is, filled with a sad sense of humanity turned into a monster. He fits snugly with other legendary stalwarts of the field such as 'The Punisher', 'Daredevil' and even the 'Batman'. Under tons of makeup and ragged clothes Liam Neeson breathes life into his role with relish, a man who wears his emotions on his 'skin'. Larry Drake is also memorable as the 'cigar-cutting' baddy. The operatic, grandiose score by Danny Elfman (who's scores include 'Batman', 'Beetlejuice' and 'Edward Scissorhands'-superhero-types) keeps things bumping along. This is Sam Raimi's most appealing work to date. Also starring future Best ActressOscar winner Frances McDormand as the hapless Julie.

QUOTES: Dr. Westlake: "I am everyone and no one. Everywhere, no where. Call me, Darkman!"

Summary: It Just Gets Worse and Worse and Worse
Review: Were "Darkman" an intended farce, it would have won oscars. Yet this film is not an intended farce, but rather a disastrous marriage of "Dr Jeykell & Mr. Hyde" meets "Starship Troopers" Doubtlessly Liam Neeson pulled this bomb of his resume when being interviewed by Steven Spielberg to play the lead in "Schindler's List" so it wouldn't tarnish his future as an actor. Much the same can be said of his extremely talented co-star, Francis McDormand, who along with Neeson are made to look like Vaudeville stand-ins in this blundering affair. I would describe the plot if there was one, critique the writing if it was intelligible, and compliment the acting if there was an opportunity for it in this film. The bad guy in the film is played by the old retarded guy on "L.A. Law" He isn't retarded in this movie, but unfortunately the film is. Truly this film doesn't even pander down to the lowest and most easily pleased filmgoer...and I'm not even going to touch the sequels...just try and imagine "Ishtar II."

Summary: Darkman a wild ride into offbeat camp
Review: From "Evil Dead" guru Sam Raimi comes this silly but immensely entertaining tale of a scientist left for dead by gangsters and then seeks revenge by using his own experimental synthetic skin to disguise himself and thwart the bad guys. Not for everyone, but this certainly not the kind of movie they make every day, so it might be worth looking into.
