Summary: Godzilla for the rest of us!
Review: I hate Godzilla! A really lousy, cornball, cheaply made set of movies poorly dubbed into English, with lousy actors!
But this Godzilla! This Godzilla was made for those of us who can't stand the original! No actor in a poorly fitting suit! No tiny little models being kicked in the air by same. Here's a full scale Godzilla ripping the REAL New York City apart!!
And this Godzilla is smart, he learns, he goes from hunted to hunter, from prey to predator!
Unlike every other Godzilla movie, this one's special effects are realistic, and believable. And while the story's main character could've been less of a dunce, the storyline made more sense than the old versions ever did.
The DVD version shows how some of the special effects, and has a short on the making of the film.
If you hate the old Godzilla movies, you'll love this one!

Review: Great Gaint Monster Film
reminds me of the Gaint Monster films of the 50s(ie..the Beast from 20,000 Fathoms,the Gaint Behemoth,Godzilla)but with much better special effects!!

Summary: Silly, and after 9/11 (inadvertently) tasteless
Review: I have a feeling that Godzilla is going to fall into the same camp of "cinema non grata" as ID4, for films is based in Manhattan which revel in the spectular demolition of iconic buildings are going to be in questionable taste for some time yet, even if released well before September 2001. In this case we even have a self-agrandising mayor, a pending election campaign and frequent references to "ground zero" (in this case the monster's lair).

But they're the only points of interest in this very silly movie, which would have you believe that there are vast, cathedral like expanses of space below New York City in which a nuclear-contaminated, mutant, hermaphrodite dinosaur (courtesy of French nuclear testing at Mururoa, of course) is brooding.

Suggested tag line: "When New York city is terrorised by a big fat dinosaur, there's only Matthew Broderick between hope and oblivion!"

An extra star, maybe, for casting the French as villains for once (the Brits will love that), and for the French SAS man's excellent Elvis impersonation, with which he foxed a gormless sentry guard at the critical moment in order to help save the day.

Summary: This is more a remake of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms"...
Review: ... except this guy can MOVE! There's no use comparing it to the Japanese "Godzilla" movies, even "Godzilla 2000", because it's not anyways near the same. People get hung up on comparing things to the original (or the book, if there was one), and that seems to color their judgement way too much. This lizard was CGI slick, smart, funny and could actually make facial expressions. Most of the destruction was done by the Air Force jets trying to kill it, which I personally thought was the most hilarious part. Love it or not, this movie remains the most realistic 'giant monster run amok in a big city' movie ever made.

Personal Opinion: "this Godzilla film was pretty good, better than some would say. And it makes a pretty good Kaiju film after all, and like some said Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster was better than this. Well I`d have to agree, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster was an extraordinary movie, but GINO is still a good film. And it`s worth watching."

Good film, gets five stars out of five.

Summary: Flopzilla?
Review: Initially, I was very hard on Godzilla. I couldn't see it as anything but cheesy and annoying, a true idiot's blockbuster of a film. However, that was before I'd seen what it was based on. The 70's Godzilla movies were cheap and cheerful, oozing with cheese and aimed squarely at kids. So it's no real surprise this big-budget adaptation is a little daft, it's supposed to be.
First, the niggly negative points. The story is pants: Godzilla goes to Manhattan, destroys a few things, is killed. The convoluted original movies had thicker plots than that, even if they were totally ludicrous. The cast are the film's biggest letdown, with a hideously poor lineup led by terminal-nice-guy Matthew Broderick, Hank Azaria and various B-List actors. Only Jean Reno is fun to watch, as a French secret agent trying to cover things up.
The script is a waste of time. Oozing with cheesy lines and with it's "a stiff breeze would break it" plot, you'll end up not caring who dies or how... in fact, you're mostly likely to care about Godzilla himself.
And instead of Godzilla fighting the good fight as once he did, he's merely King Kong here, beating up a few buildings, hiding here and there and getting killed on a landmark. When he dies, so does the movie's only spark.
And boy, is Godzilla himself good. Looking awesomely better than he used to, he's a tower of special-effects perfection, complete with original roar and various interesting abilities, such as swimming and fire-breath. He's great fun to watch, but spends far too much of the film in the background. There is simply not enough of him, and we're not really placated with the "Gosh, looks like there's a sequel on the cards" ending.
But what the Hell, the film passes the time provided you're in the right mood. Lots of roaring, lots of explosions, a few nifty effects and a few good lines courtesy of Reno. Just bear in mind it's meant to be cheesy, go along with it and it's quite fun.

Summary: Not a Disaster, but it Comes VERY Close.
Review: "Godzilla" is just like the creature after which it's named: big, loud, and without direction. The plot only serves as an excuse for the movie, and the special effects are PlayStation silly. Matthew Broderick looks blank and does little to spice things up, and the dialogue is choppy. Oh, the soundtrack has a single from P. Diddy, who annoys me to no end. I can't say "Godzilla" is a complete disaster, but for an effects-heavy summer popcorn flick, you can do way better than this.

Summary: Why Did It Have To Be This Bad!?!
Review: Ever since the first trailer for "Godzilla" came out in 1998, I was so excited about the movie. I got every Godzilla book in the bookshores, watched all the old movies and practically researched the timeless monster. I pre-ordered tickets for the movie, invited some of my friends to see it but... the movie wasn't what I expected. I actually never knew that Matthew Broderick would be in the movie nor did I know about Jean Reno. In my opinion, both actors suck and what's the deal with Broderick? Why would they cast him to play in this action movie? I have no clue. Jean Reno was cool but his part in the movie was useless. Instead of having a French guy, they should've had a Japanese guy since Godzilla does come from Japan. The romance in the movie is dumb since the girl isn't pretty at all and her acting bites! Godzilla looked cool but probably could've looked better. And that Godzilla first attackings with the fishman boats and that Japanese ship were corny. The fishing scene with that old man when Godzilla enters Manhattan was overly and greatly stupid since Godzilla is over twenty feet tall and that old man threw the hook five feet away from him. DUMB! What they should've laided down on a little was on the humor. Every line and scene had too much humor and I didn't even laugh. The ending is too much like "Jurassic Park" where our main characters are stuck in a building with Baby Godzillas. I personally think they should've had a thing where the Baby Godzillas actually get unleashed and start attacking the city.

Overall, "Godzilla" is cool, but in a stupid way. I just wish they could've gotten better directors, better writors and definately better actors!

Review: ....zzzzzzzzzzzz...Huh? What? The movie? Oh yeah. There was a movie going on, wasn't there? Wow. Um. Yeah.

I'd love to tell you more about the movie, but I can't, 'cause I fell asleep. That says a lot for me, because I have seen plenty of horrible movies. But, I have had the strength to either finish them to the end or just turn it off. This, I couldn't turn off. Because I was sleeping. I thought that maybe it was because I was tired, so I wanted to give it a second chance. Well......I think I stayed awake a minute or two longer than the first viewing.

So, since this movie put me to sleep, I think it's safe to say that I think this movie is trash. Horrible. I even saw bits and bits on HBO and still didn't want to wactch it all the way through.

Now, I usually love Mathew Broderick. I think he's a terrific actor. But in this film.......oh boy.

I will give credit where credit is due. From what I was able to see, the special effects were very neat and cool. But that still didn't save the movie.

So, I hated this film. Then again, I was never a big fan of the old Godzilla movies. Still, if a movie was able to put me to sleep, then it's pretty bad. Escpecially when I gave it two chances.

Then again, that's only my opinion. It all comes down to taste, and as always with the case: people will either like the movie or hate the movie. I belong in the second category.

Summary: Typical summer action movie, but with Godzilla
Review: "Godzilla" is basically your average summer action film, like "Armagedon", "Independence Day", and "Jurassic Park." It plays like a tribute to monster movies of the 1950's. It's combines the awe of "Jurassic Park" with the intensity of "Aliens." However opinions of this movie are often mixed, typical viewers will like it, but fussier viewers may have trouble accepting it's simple plot.
