Summary: Would have been better w/out the goofy George of the Jungle
Review: During the opening sequence of this movie, I was in awe! It was so enchanting and a real feel for ancient Egypt. But then the minute Fraser appeared on the screen it became a goofy, cutsey movie. Personally, I would have liked the movie to be more serious. But I will admit that I did enjoy it, and I have a new appreciation for Arnold Vosloo (some of this other stuff has been a bit cheesey). This is not a horror movie, it's an adventure movie. It tries to be cute and funny, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Definitely enjoyable to watch, but not worth buying.

Summary: Entertainment at its best !!!
Review: I know that there are a lot of people yumming over 'The Mummy', but at least everyone's free to go to see the movie or not, if he really dosn't like this one! For me, it is the best mnovie I've seen for years. Not only that it's got a bit of horror, it's got funny elements, a bit of romance (the right sort of), it's got amazing actors like Arnold Vosloo and Oded Fehr, and it also has such brilliant scenes of ancient egypt which makes it even harder for me NOT to go in that movie each upcoming week.... this is what a movie should be, interesting, funny, stunning, a bit romantic and at no time boring - I can only say it once again - go and see it, and you'll understand what I mean!!!

Summary: MUMMY NO DUMMY
Review: Smart, fun escape for which I (at least) go to the movies for. Excellent specieal effects for which (I at least) expected and was not disappointed by. Brendan Fraser came off as a great action/adventure hero for which (yep) I (at least) was hoping for.

Summary: WOW!
Review: This incarnation of The Mummy kicks @#*! Universal has successfully recreated the feel and spirit of the Indiana Jones trilogy and the result is at least as good as Temple of Doom. This movie is as fast paced as it gets, it is filled with suspense, humor and eye-popping special effects. This movie is 100% fun, and if you already cherish the Indiana Jones triology in your home video collection then put this in your shopping cart because your collection won't be complete without it. The icing on the cake: this appears to be a terrific special edition DVD. Deleted scenes, commentaries... I can't wait to plop my hard earned money down for this one! As a foot note, this goes to show how expectations play in how much you enjoy a movie. I saw this movie expecting another Godzilla (yeach!) and I was blown away with how good it was. I went to see The Phantom Menace expecting to be blown away and came away dissappointed by what was on second viewing a good movie.

Summary: The Story of Imhotep and Anck Su Namun overshadows all!
Review: The Mummy is a WONDERFUL movie, set during the interwar period in Egypt, dealing with the adventures of an unlikely group that has banded together for a variety of reasons in exploring the lost City of the Dead-Hamunaptra.
The acting is very good, the costumes are extraordinary, and the plot is GREAT! The Mummy successfully combines adventure, horror, humour and romance, but what really steals the show is the "villains" who had me rooting for them throughout the whole movie.
There is a very strong element of archaeology and mythology; what with the lost City of the Dead, the Gold Book of Life and the Black book of death, the gods Anubis and Horus etc.
Deserts, Pyramids, Heroes, and Villains are all about...
Strongly recommended to those who are fascinated with archaeology and history, especially those with a keen interest in Ancient Egypt. It is a definite "must see" together with the sequel The Mummy Returns, as well as the Scorpion King and Stargate, which also fall into the same category of movies, theme-wise.

Summary: This is a Indiana Jones of it's time!!
Review: This movie is an Indiana Jones of it's time. It has romance, action, horror, and some drama to it in the beginning. It all starts with a sort of affair between Imhotep and the pharhoa's mistress Anck Su Namun. The pharohoa comes in on the while they make out. So, Imhotep hides. Then, Anck Su Namun and Imhotep kill the pharoh. The rest you much watch it's all very interesting and exciting. With the mummy sucking the fluids out of people and man eating bugs that devour people in second's, it all adds up to be very, on the edge of your seat type of movie. But, that's what make's it great and it's why it get's 5 golden star's!!

Summary: Not horror, action.
Review: While the title and story may suggest that this is a horror film, it's not. It's a swashbuckling adventure romp through the desert of Egypt. It might as well be an Indiana Jones movie. If your'e expecting something like the 1930 original, your;e in for a big disappointment. If your'e looking for an adventure film every sense of the term, this is your film! All the casting has been handled perfectly. Also reccomended, the even better sequel, The Mummy Returns!

Summary: A modern classic
Review: "The Mummy" is one of those rare action/adventure films with no real flaws. The cast is superb (including the best-ever performance by Brendan Fraser), the special effects are spectacular, and the thrills come fast and furious.

While the second film ("The Mummy Returns") is a limp retread, the original movie will go down in history as a modern classic. Some have pointed to the parallels between Fraser's character and Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones. I will go out on a limb here and say Fraser's Rick O'Connell is even more interesting than Indy.

The actors in "The Mummy" seem to be having a fantastic time filming the movie (including Fraser), and this exuberance tends to carry the audience over several rough spots in the plot. You don't notice the movie's few missteps, because you are captivated in the action and wondering what is going to happen next.

By the time the final showdown with Imhotep the evil mummy begins, you will know the money used to buy the DVD was well spent!
