Summary: The alien is in the backyard
Review: The general situation in the film, i.e. fighting against South American rebels, is not very interesting. But it is a lot more fascinating to see how this action film works on many fears and creates an unevadable mesmerization and panic, even if we know the hero will succeed. The fears are, among others : the fear of the jungle, the fear of wild animals like scorpions, the fear of rebels and revolutionaries, the fear of the night, the fear of the alien, the extra-terrestrial monster, the fear of the ugly face of a predator from outer space, forgetting that the beautiful face of a human is also the face of a predator, and that is why the hero can succeed and destroy the alien. The suspense and the rhythm of the action is quick enough to create a real momentum and the ingenuity of the hero is always surprising and amazing. He destroys a perfect killing machine with sticks and logs, with a few pieces of wire and string, even if he also uses some better weapons to lure the monster into his trap. Summary: Predator: Setting the Bar High for Sci-Fi Action Films
Review: Predator, directed by Die Hard's John McTiernan, is a masterpiece of the action-horror, sci-fi genre and arguably Arnold Schwarzenegger's best film, the film that showcase's Arnold's action skills and Mr. Oylmpia physique. As the leader of a squad of elite commandoes, sent into the deep jungles of Mexico to carry out an unclear mission(We know eventually of course it is the discovery of the predator not mercenaries that is the real secret) and they are an efficient, colorful bunch. They all compliment Arnold's Dutch and they soon realize that, not only do they have to operate in an almost impossibly oppressive jungle but they start getting picked off one by one gruesomely by an unknown force. Most of the squad see the predator too late or give up at its almost immortal fighting power. The cinematography is superb. I've never seen the jungle photographed in any movie better than Predator and the way the director uses it for the dense hunting ground for this malevolent creature. And what a creature! Stan Winston, the creature's designer, has outdone himself and created one of the most awesome aliens in sci-fi history. The action is fast, furious and bloody. There seems no escaping this predator unless, like Dutch, you become as savage as he is, and even then, only by luck survive to be saved by a chopper. The special effects are astounding and with all the computer enhanced effects today, predator walks away with some of the most orginal special effects is history, appropriate to the story, the jungle, and the action, with ultraviolet filters and the predator recording all the human dialogue and then echoed at another point in the movie. A classic, that any action lover should own and re-watch for years. I think it was under rated at the time and after seeing it again for at least the tenth time, I'm sure it will last and is a classic and Arnold will never do anything better. Highly recommended but not for the very young; it might be a little too vilolent for the very young and a little too intense. For Predator, intensity is its middle name and John McTiernan continues his run of first class action flims.

Summary: Predator--Greatest Man vs Alien Sci-Fi flick ever
Review: This movie is CLASSIC. Entertaining from start to finish. This movie will shoot you full of goosebumps and give you an adrenaline rush like you have never felt before. You will feel a powerful sense of human pride as Schwarzenegger becomes the last mand standing to face off against this invincible, inter-galactic alien head hunter. Though I would have liked for the movie to have ended with Dutch using his pure physical abilities *considering Dutch's insane physical physique and the notion of human beings being forced to use their intelligence to rise to the top of Earth's totem pole I feel this would have added a great sense of powerful, ironic human ability* to dispatch of the Predator, the ending, nevertheless was just awesome.

Summary: Schwarzenegger's best
Review: Schwarzenegger was born to star in this movie. He may have gained more fame for the Terminator flicks, but this is his finest hour, an absolute gem. There are more memorable one-liners in Predator than in any Eastwood or Bogart movie. The DVD is a decent transfer as well, though not anamorphic. All in all, just about perfect.

Summary: A special f/x extravaganza with some great action included
Review: In "Predator," Arnold Schwarzenegger and his SWAT Team are assigned to clear out some enemy headquarters and rescue any hostages that they can find. Before they know it, there's an unknown creature that is stalking and killing them one by one. They must find a way to get rid of this predator before all of them fall as prey to the bewildering beast.

What I liked best about "Predator" was its good special effects and its action scenes. When Arnold and the crew break into their first enemies' hideout place, that's what you call a great action sequence. The gun-shooting and explosions couldn't have been done any better. When you finally get a look at the predator himself and his infrared visions, it's not a disappointment. But the showdown between Arnold Schwarzenegger and the predator is what you'll really remember from this movie.

If you like action movies with a lot of great action scenes and some good hunting skills, I recommend getting "Predator."

Summary: I Totally Agree With Shawn Watson
Review: Predator is a fantastic action/sci-fi film that has the words "must see" written all over it. I grew up with this movie (along with it's ultra-violent sequel, Predator 2). I've always loved it. There is almost nothing wrong with it. This movie always manages to be entertaining and scary.

I TOTALLY agree with Shawn Watson. This is a landmark movie. It sets the standard for excellent sci-fi/action films. The Predator is one of the greatest movie villains EVER. It's a total shame he's so damn underrated and didn't get more attention like the Alien series got (which is pretty much nothing compared to this). Predator is the ultimate Alien creature. Period.

The story is also extremely original. A group of Commandos go out to rescue a Government Official who disappeared into the South American jungle. They soon find out that some creature that has an ability to become invisible is stalking them and is hunting them. This adds a great and completely refreshing take on the sci-fi genre instead of the usual people on spaceship find Alien monster that wants to deavour them. I also flawlessly mixes the action genre and probably the horror genre. The action sequences are mind blowing. The tank battle is absolutely amazing and the showdown at the end between Dutch and the Predator kept me at the edge of my seat and took my breath away. I guarantee the same will apply for you.

Besides having incredible action sequences, a completely original and awesome villain, and gore galore (this definitely is NOT for kids and the weak-stomached), the scenery is beautiful and breath-taking. The jungle is the perfect hunting ground for the Predator, and the battles are even better when shown in the landscapes. The acting is also fantastic. Arnold has one of his best roles ever and Kevin Peter Hall makes the Predator a million-dimensional killing machine. McTiernan's direction is top-notch and makes the film move at a terrific pace. The photography is some of the best ever on film. The same can be said for the screenplay. Very original and strong, and extremely unpredictable.

All in all, Predator is an awesome movie that shouldn't be missed by any sci-fi/action freak, horror fanatics and Arnie fans. Buy it now and be sure you also get the equal sequel, Predator 2.

Summary: LANDMARK MOVIE WITH ICONIC VILLAIN
Review: The Predator is one of cinemas greatest villains. He is not evil, his is a hunter, a creature who prides himself in being primal and brutal. Since 1987 most film buffs instantly recognize the Predator. It's a shame he didnt't get the same kind of franchise as the (lesser) Alien movies got.

In this movie Arnie and his gang of mercenaries have to rescue a Government Official who has gone missing in the south American Jungles. But when they get there they find that an unseen enemy is hunting them. The film leads to a fantastic showdown between man and beast in which John McTiernan's direction creates a VERY gothic looking rainforest. I love it!

This DVD although is VERY bareboned. All we get is a non-anamorphic film and a grainy fullscreen trailer. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is cool and the DVD is framed at the correct 1.85:1 instead of 1.66:1 (like my widescreen VHS was).

Summary: Maybe Arnold's Best
Review: Predator is a fast-paced, suspenseful, frightening, dramatic, action-adventure film that takes the viewer into the South American jungle and makes him feel part of Arnold's team. This film offers so much that Arnold's other films, with exceptions, do not seem to compare. It was almost like a whodunnit, and when you find out and see who actually dunnit, you can't believe it. An invisible alien preying on anyone who gets in his way. Many critics claim that the movie had no purpose because why would the mother-ship dump the alien on some far away planet by himself. But, who cares. If you think about it too much you might miss the action and excitement. I think number 2 answered some questions, but number one started the phenomena. For a classic Schwarzenegger movie, you can't miss this one. It's truly up there with the Terminator movies.

Summary: The story, "THE GAME," taken to large scale.
Review: Arnold Schwarzenegger leads a crack team behind enemy lines. A helicopter team is missing. But, he finds that the mission is unusually laced with missing and mis-information, especially when Billy Dee Williams insists on coming along--as the new guy in charge. It's one thing to have the drop on your enemy. But what if your known enemy is not the worst one around? Super special effects, active story that keeps you on the edge. 5-stars is the limit. 5.5 is this film's merit!
