Rating: Summary: Good effects, bad movie Review: Citizen Kane it's not.... It may not even be Passenger 57....but it is certainly not without its redeeming qualities. I saw this movie in the theaters, and I was unimpressed with the plot and acting, and particularly with the screenplay. The dialogue was dumb, the stroyline had gaping holes, and the ending was pretty obvious. But man, this is one hell of a violent movie, with some serious special effects. True to it's billing, Blade (Wesley Snipes), pretty much spends the entire movie killing vampires. The first ten or so minutes are a long, well-choreographed fight, that kept me pretty excited. There's a hour or so in between that and the last ten minutes, which are another terriffic scene. I'm sure the DVD will give any home theater system a real work out, with some serious blacks and dark colors, lots of imaging and steering with the surround channels, and some major league LFEs. Buy it for the spectacle, and not for the story.
Rating: Summary: Totally awesome! Review: I love this movie! It was an action packed movie. Stephen Dorff was just absolutely great as Deacon Frost! I love Stephen. Wesley was great in there too. The special effects goes great along with the whole movie. Just rent or buy this movie! I think it's a must see! The soundtrack is really good too! Have fun and enjoy the movie...
Rating: Summary: Guns, Vampires, Swords... what more could you want? Review: Blade is a vampire movie, and action movie, and at times, a comedy. Because of the vampire twist a lot of people will shy away from this very well done movie, but they shouldn't. The story is well thought out, with an ending that does the movie.. and the viewers justice. Wesley Snipes is on to something special with this new breed of action movies. A horror/action/sci-fi movie that has something for everone. If your in the mood for an excellent action flick that rates as high as any... check out Blade. 5 Big stars for the movie that combines Dracula, Highlander, and the comedy of any Lethal Weapon movie out there. CHECK IT OUT.
Rating: Summary: Seriously Hype Movie Review: Blade is definately the best movie of 98.With this movie Wesley Snipes proves he's still on top of his game. The movie had everything, action packed martial arts and even a hint of comedy. The scenes were incrediable. Not giving away anything, but the first scene will be your favorite. The movie was the bomb from the beginning to the end, you'll be upset that it had to finish.Whatever you do make it a priority to see this movie. It won't disappoint you, you'll be talking about it for weeks!!
Rating: Summary: BLADE- Shoe in for the DuckyBoy Action Flick of the year! Review: Not since Above the Law or Lethal Weapon 1 has a movie's action sequences been so well directed. This one is sure to have the kids slap boxing after the show and practicing their best action poses. If real action brings out the 12 year old in you (or in your boyfriends or husbands) then this film is for you. I've never been a Wesley Snipes fan, but I saw this one twice. *****5 Stars Babeeeeey!
Rating: Summary: An action-packed thrill-ride I want to ride over and over Review: I saw the movie in the theater with my friend Sara. She thought it was a great movie, full of energy. I think some of that energy was transferred to her, because after the movie she was really hyper and pumped up. I was to now that I think about it. Wesley Snipes is one of my favorite actors, mainly because he can really kick some butt!! Something he continually does throughout this movie. The special effects were really good too!! Blade is a great movie in every aspect!! I recommend that if you haven't seen it yet, then you go and watch it as soon as possible!!
Rating: Summary: Blade takes comic based movies up a level Review: Blade David S. Goyer has written yet another comic book based flick, Blade. Some of his past works were Dark City (B) and Crow: City of Angels (B-). All three of these movies were based on comic books and Goyer has become accustomed to the style. Blade was a comic-lovers dream movie. It had a vigilante who didn't hesitate when destroying the enemy, a very cool villain who you almost want to win, and enough butt kicking to satisfy most appetites for destruction. Some may compare this movie to the Spawn movie which came out recently. Don't. People who did like Spawn, will like Blade, but it doesn't necessarily go both ways. This movie is one that is definitely worth seeing, if only for the opening sequence which beat out the opening scene for Replacement Killers as #1 opening sequence. (A- Brandon)
Rating: Summary: Marvel was still in bankruptcy proceedings.. Review: In 1998, when Amen Ra (Wesley's production company) and New Line agreed to do this first Marvel Movie, they had limited budget, resources, and time to do it. So the whole thing was shot in Europe and from start to finish, it'a a very cheap looking movie. Lots of fake CGi effects, guns going off everywhere, and somewhere there is supposed to be a plot here (but there isn't). I don't think it even had a script. They only made two sequals to this movie because each film cost only $1.98 to produce. Marvel and New Line do not mix.
Rating: Summary: The power of an immortal. The soul of a human. Review: The heart of a hero.
When Blade was first released, it provided me with the feeling of a roller coaster. There was action, suspense, theme, and story that just reached out and grabbed you. I liked the development of the villain, Deacon Frost played by Stephen Dorff. I loved the martial arts action displayed by Blade, Snipes. I enjoyed the father figure of Blade, Whistler played by Kris Kristofferson, while also enjoying the lesser-developed characters.
"Some MoFo's are always trying to ice skate up hill"
N'Bushe Wright (Dead Presidents and Zebrahead), who played Dr. Karen Jenson, was marvelous, and this character was perhaps her best role. I liked her a lot in Dead Presidents, but Dr. Jenson was the most involved character I have seen her play. Sanaa Lathan (Alien Vs. Predator, Brown Sugar, Best Man, Love & Basketball, and The Wood) plays Blades mother, and does a fantastic job in this sadistic role.
"What do you got down there little man?"
"My heat seeker."
Stephen Norrington, who directs Blade, also directed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and worked on the special effects team of Aliens. It is unfortunate that more comic book and video game movie directors do not take Norrington's approach to their films. Blade is a movie with a complete story. His persona and character is developed as the story unfolds, it does not have to go in chronological order (i.e. you do not have to spell everything out). The story is the main drive of the movie Blade; the character comes in a very close secondary.
"Bringing home strays now?"
There was only one negative aspect of the movie, perhaps more of a hole in the plot. The "pure bloods" are for some reason afraid of Deacon Frost and his group of vampires. Though every indication during their interactions, they believe they are far superior to the "mixed breed." However, they never fight back, and act as victims. I never understood that aspect of the movie.
Blade is a must have in your DVD collection. It honestly should be one of the first films in your collection. Blade is a movie you can watch multiple times. I believe you can feel comfortable purchasing Blade, even if you have never seen it.
