Summary: This could be one of the worst movie I have ever seen.
Review: I would love to tell you all that I love seeing crappy video games made into crappy movies. I was at best buy last year and picked up The House of The Dead. I went wow this could be scary. But no it was one that god had dammed to the firey pits of the 4 dollar bin. I am serious because this movie sucked so bad that it was really really funny instead of scary. Dont ever buy this movie. If you have to see it watch it at a friends house that was stupid enough to buy and enjoy this piece of crap flim by a terrible director.

Summary: Hardest review I've ever done
Review: After much thinking I decided to give this a grade based on the quality of the movie. This is one of the most terrible movies made in recent times. The director Uwe Boll has been repeatedly compared to Ed Wood and I can't say that I think that's unfair. All that said, I have seen this movie four times. This is one of the most hilarious movies I have ever seen. The trick to enjoying this movie is you get a bunch of your friends together and pull an "MST3K", I promise you will not run out of material. So I actually love this movie the way people love "Plan 9 From Outer Space". I am looking forward to Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne, Far Cry, Dungeon Seige, Fear Effect, Hunter the Reckoning and possibly others that Uwe Boll is making.

Summary: For fans of laughably bad films only. Anyone eles, AVOID!
Review: Contrary to what some of the other reviewers have said, this is not the worst movie ever made, not even for just the genre of horror. (Just watch MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE, THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS or THE CREEPING TERROR, anyone of those will make you forget of this film as the worst movie ever.) Heck, this may not even be as awful as THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACURE 2 or EEGAH.

Now, make no mistake, I am not trying to defend this film in any way. This movie is BAD. Thankfully, though, it's bad in a laughable way. It may be best enjoyed with friends who are fans of really cheesy movies and who can come up with their own improventional MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000-type commentary. I won't bother describing the plot, since chances are you've read it already in Amazon's own plot description. Instead, I'll just point out some of the things that make this such a cheese-fest: scenes that flash-cut to scenes from the video game this is supposedly based on (sometimes for no apparent reason). Zombies that have glowing red eyes. (Oooh, scary!) The fact that sometimes when a main character dies we then cut to a shot of the character standing there and the camera spinning around him or her and then the screen turns red. Then of course there's the usual things, such as wooden acting and bits of immortal dialoge. (The most famous of which would seem to be when one of the main characters asks the main bad guy,"You did all this to become immortal? Why?" And the response,"To live forever!") The one nice thing I can say about this one is it does aknowlege George A. Romero's holy trilogy. (That's the origonal NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD and DAY OF THE DEAD for anyone who doesn't know.)

Lastly, I'm not sure how the plot of the movie is suppposed to tie in with the plot of the arcade game it's based on...uh, named after. Having played through the game, I seem to remember it being about one or (if you're playing with a friend) two goverment agents who go into a mansion where a mad scientist has found a way to ressurect the dead.

Finally, to sumerize: this strictly for bad movie buffs. Those who want to see a truely good zombie film should watch...well, the above-mentioned holy "dead" trilogy would be a great choice.

Summary: Why.........why was this made?
Review: I purchased this movie on a whim on advice from another customer who said it was "A good mindless horror movie." Now, when he said mindless.....I figured he meant I didn't have to be in any state of mind to understand and be entertained by this movie. No, no, no...what he must have meant was the people who made this movie were actually OUT OF THEIR MINDS. And the people who allowed this to be a theatrical release while movies like Ginger Snaps didn't make it into american theaters is a true testament to how low our standards have become. What's more disturbing are the people who have been sheltered enough to believe this movie has ANY redeeming qualities. These people will usher in dozens more absolutely terrible, uninspired excuses for horror films. I will ALWAYS give the benefit of the doubt to the people trying to make original horror movies, or even testaments to classics (Cabin Fever, Bubba Ho-Tep, Shaun Of The Dead, Ginger Snaps) because their making movies because they love horror films. But this was simply a pathetic attempt to cash in on the 28 days later, resident evil zombie craze. Their are so many 'guilty Pleasures,' please don't lower your standards so much as to be entertained by this garbage.

Summary: "Not too BAD"
Review: I thought this movie was some what realistic and seeing how the directo said he had certain zombies run and others kind of slack behind based on the time of death, so that was a plus, and Tom Savini was in the extras along with ROMERO! The best part in this movie was not in the movie itself but in the extras where George was talking about his new movie he's trying to make to follow up Day of the dead. But the gore was mainly in the zombies, you get to see there heads blow up and and blown away, but there were some cheesy "matrix" scenes that didnt quite fit. Lastly, YOU DIDNT SEE ANYONE GET KILLED (any humans that is), they always cut away and on to another scene. Its worth renting.

Summary: Good fun for fans of bad horror
Review: I was surprised (well not terribly surprised) at the number of horrible reviews this movie recieved. I rented it with a friend one night, and we both came out of the experience thinking something different about it. She hated it for all the reasons that have been mentioned here (bad acting, no character development, kids running around with guns like they've been trained for years, the cheesy cuts to the video game).

Okay, it was a bad movie.

But I kind of liked it anyway. Let me preface this by saying that I am a fan of a wide variety of horror movies. I grew up watching them, and have an appreciation for the truly scary as well as the amusingly bad. I enjoy them all. House of the Dead was not a good movie. It wasn't even good for a bad movie either, but it was still fun to watch. It had all of the cliches, thrown together in a delightfully campy way. The stranded teenagers...the dumb blonde constantly walking around without her shirt...all of this made me laugh. I didn't even mind the gun part, because honestly, I couldn't think of anything more fun than finding a box of guns and blasting my way through a hoarde of moaning zombies. That said, the first half of the movie was campier, funnier, and much more entertaining than the last. By the time the last remaining teenagers engaged in a full-out swordfight with the head zombie, it had lost some of its amusement.

Not a great movie, not even a good movie, but a fun movie for fans of bad horror.

Summary: Good Bad Horror Movie
Review: The $2.24 price tag and 195 bad reviews convinced me that this was the flick for me. Being the consumate horror fan that I am, I actually enjoy some of Hollywood's more feeble attempts. This film did not dissapoint. The only thing that DID disappoint was that it was not as bad as some of my fellow reviewers would have you think. I mean in it's defense it:

- made it made an attempt at a plot (sort of)
- contained ample gratuitous T & A
- had lots of shooting, gut spraying, explosions etc.
- had great sound (6.1 kicks butt)
- attempted "matrix like" fight scenes

They even left room for a sequel with a jiggling zombie lady. I think that my fellow reviewers who "claimed" to be bad horror movie affectionado's were merely posers who secretly desired an Evil Dead II or Return of the Living Dead. So if you really do appreciate a good bad horror movie at a great price, House of the Dead may be what you're looking for. So go ahead. Time to climb down the stairs into the dark cellar with only a flickering candle to light your way.
