Summary: I am biased!
Review: I was once madly in love with Nathan Winters, the actor who plays Casey, so my opinion of the movie is probably biased. Nathan's acting abilities at such a young age are so incredible that he makes this movie scary and believable, despite the others' bad acting, the bad dialogue and the bad direction. If Nate had continued acting, I am certain he would be very famous today, as his talents at THAT age have remained unmatched by any child actor I have seen to date. It is extremely unfortunate that Nate was "black-balled" by Hollywood following the scandal surrounding the director, Victor Salva.

Salva, a pedophile, was brought up on charges of molesting Nathan (and was eventually convicted and served a few paltry years for it). Because of this, someone (the studio? the production company?) decided not to relase the film in theaters, opting instead to go straight to video. The other actors in the film were upset with Nathan, and blamed him for the lack of exposure.

All the controversy aside, it is overall a great movie. If you can ignore where your money is actually going (Salva has been out of jail for over 10 years now), then I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed, especially if you love horror flicks and hate clowns.

Summary: Good Movie, Sick Director brings it way down
Review: I watched this movie pushing the fact that Victor Salvo is sick out of my head---although it was suspensefull- the way the clows were defeated were sort of silly--as i was watching- I really didnt have my mind on the director and his sick past---but indeed that incident is in the past--he'll have to live with the thought he is sick-- this movie did not have blood, it was really not neccesary--if anyone cares- the man on the radio
when the oldest brother is in the kitchen cleaning IS VICTOR SALVA--

Summary: Clownhouse Arrives
Review: I'm excited about the release of 'Clownhouse' on DVD. I remember discoving this film through a movie review book (I forget which one) and was impressed by it's five star rating. Since I was getting tired of the familiar worn-out genre of horror/scare flicks, I decided to immediately sought out this movie because, to be frank, I was bored and wanted something . . . different. And this movie didn't disappoint.

First off, there are some things to be said about the director's personal life but, truth be known, he sure knows how to make smart, scary, suspenseful, sinister flicks. "Jeepers Creepers 2" is a testament to this fact. "Clownhouse" is different from most films of this type because its not explicitly gory nor is it completely condescending. To be sure, there are a couple of dumb moves and dialogue in the film but I overlooked this fact because of the film's atmosphere. This might have been one of Victor Salvo's first film but it certainly doesn't look amateurist. He succeeds in making you believe in the children's vulnerability and the sense of dread that surrounded them.

"Clownhouse" plays on the psychology of a lot of kids fears: the darkness of night; seperation anxiety (parents have gone off to a party) and, for some kids, the circus...especially clowns. Personally, I was never scared of clowns growing up but after watching this film, I now look at them differently. Victor Salvo has a way of taking ordinary objects and places and making them appear sinister: a smiling doll, a shortcut home, an open door. I watched this movie repeatedly for months on VHS before it suspiciously disappeared. I was never able to find it again due to its obscurity and, most likely, director's notoriety; and I thought the film would be a lost treasure. However, the cult success of "Powder" and the big-screen success of "Jeepers Creepers 2" will hopefully make audience seek out this little-known film and give Victor Salvo some deserved recognition that had been long overshadowed by his personal life. Like Roman Polanski, Victor Salvo's directoral skills should be looked at seperately and his work should be judged accordingly. In my opinion, Salvo, the director, is a serious contender to fill in the shoes long owned by Hitchcock.

Summary: Why did they release so few DVD copies?
Review: I've been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD for quite some time. I understand they finally released it just recently, but it was sold out almost immediately. What a bummer, I missed it! Why did they release so few copies? Obviously, I'm not the only one that's been dying to get this on DVD. Hopefully, all those interested in having this great (what I would call) horror classic, will put some pressure on those who might distribute more copies for sale. Clowns are scary even when they're behaving themselves. Enter some murderous clowns, who happen upon 3 boys who are left at home alone and you have the making of the youngest boy's worst nightmare (Casey, played by the adorable Nathan Forrest Winters). Please, lets get a lot more copies of this on the market again soon, so we can all buy the DVD and enjoy it!

Summary: a pretty good little horror flick
Review: If a viewer can separate the controversy surrounding this film from the film itself, he can see that this movie was a pretty good work in progress. The atmosphere and clown make-up in the film are very scary. The young actors did a great job in their roles (it is very sad that one of the actors ran into some unfortunate circumstances on the set). Take a look at this movie so that the kid's pain will not have been totally in vain.

Summary: AWFULLY SCARY
Review: It's badly written, badly acted, badly directed and it's unoriginal HOWEVER, it's the scariest film I've ever seen. I saw it when I was 18 and so at that age, I'm meant to have been de-sensatived, thanks to shows like 'Pop Idol', but this film was scarier. The simple idea and the simplicity of it all, made me more realistic than any other horror, because of all the times you played hiding and chase games with your brothers or sisters ..... alarm clocks in this film will never be looked upon loving again!

Summary: Very sad
Review: It's very sad that an actor who is molested is black-balled by the movie industry. As for Daisy Redbone, who claimed that the charges were only charges, should learn that Victor Salva videotaped his "act" with the boy. That is what convicted him.

Summary: Scary,suspensful,and fun
Review: Ok you sit back and turn off the lights and watcht his movie knowing nothing about it.And it will scare the pee out of you like the little boy in the movie. It didnt have alot of blood or intence plotting it wasnt 4 hours long or had big name actors. But what it did have was complete and utter suspence. It wasnt overdone. The clowns walked around oviusly it didnt try to scare u with a creak and then you wondered if they were came in.You knew they did but yet it was very subtle. To me it was scaryer than "IT" and all the other clown movies i saw trying to scare myself. It made you go through a wide variety of emotions.I didnt find out until after i watched it who the director was and what he did.And frankly I DONT CARE.A good movie is a good movie no matter what kind of person the director is.And i did not see anything kiddie pornish about this movie.I was shocked to see a young boys bottom but i thought it was nice that they werent afraid to do that,it fit into the movie and i thought nothing of it.Boy pees pants boy puts on new ones.It was just a butt.As for some of the comments"dont feel each other up" or whatever the older brother said fit because the middle brother was protecting the other one and helped him with his bed wetting. It was just teenage humor. And the "lets see if u got hair where it counts" is todays way of saying lets see if u got balls and teenagers say it alot to each other now days.So kiddie porn no.director a bad person-mabe.Movie extremely good one of the best horror movies their is!

Summary: See it once, then put it away.
Review: Okay. First, there's nothing scarier than an evil clown. Just look at Carrot Top. Frightening.

Clownhouse attempts to exploit that popular fear by giving us three escapees from the mental institution dressed as clowns, terrorizing three young brats. Casey is really afraid of clowns to begin with. He has some pretentious explanation at the beginning of the film so I won't go into it. Let's just say he freaks when he sees them. His oldest brother is a bully and the middle brother is the understanding, bookish one. They are left alone on a night that falls somewhere between Friday Oct. 13 and Halloween. Scary. After several Halloween-worthy cat-and-mouse moments, Casey must face his fears and beat back the clowns.

If it seems like I'm being overly impudent here, it's because the movie just hasn't aged that well for me. I remember seeing it on cable about twelve years ago and being scared to death. Now, I just find myself irritated at the oldest brother and his witty banter with the others. I also found myself wondering how long it took to do the clown make-up and did one psycho help the other psycho put his on. Otherwise, how would you know if you got the back of your neck white enough? Ahem.

This one is a really good one to start with if you want something bloodless and scary, but it doesn't hold up to repeated viewings like Halloween does.

Mild recommendation.

Summary: Excellent horror film and the critics really liked it to.
Review: Some "viewers" need to realize that reviewing a film means not reviewing a director's life. The charges were just that, charges. Never proven and that young actor was kinda creepy and always with his mommy, maybe they were trying to make a buck. The film is really great and salva did excellent work. People who live in Clown Houses shouldn't throw stones.
