Summary: This Will Satisfy Me For Now!!
Review: If you are a huge fan of this movie like me, you will know what i'm talkin about here. In certain parts of the movie the picture is too dark. For example, when Pam falls on the floor in the "Bone Room" ,the feathers and bones on the floor are so dark you can barely see them. There are a few parts like this that makes a nit picky fan kinda dissapointed. I watched the VHS version after my dvd (oct. 14th release) and i could definatley tell a difference. Come on Pioneer this is a DVD of all things there should never be anything lost in the transfer. And you can't tell me the crew at Pioneer didn't watch their transfer and notice the scenes that were too dark. Maybe they were pushing it too fast to get it out before Halloween. Who knows!! Don't get me wrong, I don't want a perfect picture because i wouldn't want that grainy look to be filtered out, that grainy look is one of the key elements if not THE key to making this masterpiece a masterpiece.I just wanted an exact replica of the original I watched years and years ago transfered to a DVD! I will say that the extras are very much worth the $14.99 I paid for this DVD. Anyways, I can't get enough of this movie and I will never get tired of it. This new re-release will keep me satisfied for now, until someone (lets say Anchor Bay), does it the right way. If those certain scenes weren't dark, this would get 5 stars easy. Well I better put my laptop away because I need to pull over and give this hitchhiker a ride. C-Ya

Summary: Brutal!
Review: This is a real horror movie. This is no teen movie that has to have nudity to get attention. This movie was a great film in every possible way. It had the most brutal, terrifying scenes I have ever seen in a movie. The gore level was low, and the blood level was normal, but the way these maniacs torture people was truly brutal. The people who filmed the movie, filmed it like a documentary in a way, and that adds to the terror of the movie. Leatherface is not a fun person to watch. He is a hardcore murderer and can just scare the crap out of you if you let him. The movie has nothing at all wrong with it. Excellent film.

The special edition dvd is an amazing piece of work. It has a whole lot of never before seen footage Texas Chainsaw Massacre lovers like myself will love! I watched every piece of footage on the special features. It is well worth your time and money. Don't regret buying this film. It is truly amazing. Must Have for horror fans!

Summary: What does the special edition bring?
Review: I'm not gonna review the film it's been done a couple of hundred times here. If I had anything new or unique to add about the film, I doubt you'd sift through the text to find those little beauties imbedded in here. People have also done a decent job letting people know about the extras. So what is left for me to do? What I generally do, give the overall impression AND judge on that and the price. "Special" edition DVDs have a tendency to hike up to a high price, especially with cult classic movies like TCM. I was really surprised it's going for under 17 dollars. I also know this DVD is a rerelease of a DVD edition released a few years ago. So what is the difference? How about around 8 bucks. The old edition is about $24.95. That in my opinion is way to expensive for a DVD. I also have to argue about people complaining about the transfer. The poor image quality is what makes the film carry the mood that it does. I don't want a muddled film, but at the same time I don't want it beautifully rendered either. It's like when they colorized Romero's original 1968 Night of the Living Dead. Now which do you think is better? If you said the colorized I'm not talking to you anyway. I LOVE the DVD case it is really good quality that is unheard of in most DVDs today. The thin plastic slip case that goes around it will likely be tore up soon though. The price, quality, extras, and film itself make this DVD a must buy for collectors. This is a movie that was unique for it's time and I'm glad it's honored as a classic despite being mimicked and built off of from other movies for the past 30 years. This type of movie was unheard of at the time. The visuals are disturbing and well filmed. Well I guess you guys already know this. Buy it if you don't own it already.

Summary: BRAND NEW DVD!!!
Review: This is a classic film! Don't waste your money on the other copy of it. This one has a black cover. There is another copy of it with jaged edges like a chainsaw and the back cover looks like ground beef! That one is very hard to find though. The one on here is the regular new copy. If you are a diehard chainsaw fan you should pick up a copy of that one at a movie speciality store. Both copies have the same load of extras including theatrical trailers for all of the sequals, deleted scenes, comentary and loads more! it is about a group of five teens on a road trip. Their van needs gas so two of them go out in search of a gas station. They stumble upon a house and check it out. You can guess what happens to them. Soon after another teen goes out to look for them and the same horrible fate falls upon him. Later the other two go out in the dark to find them and a character called Leatherface takes one as a prisoner and kills the other one. Leatherface and his trusty chainsaw are like pb and j in this movie. They go together. The teens are killed in creative ways. One dude is bashed on the head with a sledge hammer, one girl is impaled on a meat hook and the rest of them are killed with a chainsaw except the girl. Tobe Hooper did a great job on this one! See Poltergeist, Crocodile, Wrong Turn or The Hills have eyes if you like it.

Summary: Be forewarned - this "new" special edition is a reissue
Review: I won't go into the details of this DVD as the other reviewers have done a fine job already. What I do want to make sure everyone knows is that this "new" Special Edition released on October 14, 2003 is simply a reissue of the same DVD put out in 1998 with a spiffy new slipcover! It's not even anamorphic! The transfer is actually inferior to the old Elite Laserdisc version as they failed to use the final product eventually issued by Elite. They used a work in progress that had not had almost 200 minute horizontal lines removed (even though they thank the folks that did the removal!) that were the end result of poor storage of the original negative. While I did enjoy the extras, I kept thinking "Where is the almost feature length Making Of, or the interviews with cast and crew or cool booklet that you get with the Region 2 DVD?" It's a shame, really, that Pioneer didn't put forth a little more effort into this Horror Classic. If you already own the 1998 DVD then save your money. If you don't, well I can't really recommend this as I'm sure someone will issue a proper updated Special Edition with a new anamorphic transfer (Blue Underground? Anchor Bay? Hello?). Disappointed.

Summary: God Awful Transfer
Review: Way too dark. My VHS copy of "Chainsaw" looks much better. The soundtrack does sound really good though--clean and very sharp. For $16 the special edition is worth buying just for the special features and audio commentary.

Summary: Very Scary.
Review: See this one before the re-make, because re-makes usually suck, and they end up ruining the original. This is easily one of the scariest movies ever.

Summary: Just... Awesome.
Review: Alright, first thing, Tobe Hooper is a genius. 'Nuff said. With that out of the way, I must get to my major qualm, not with the movie, but with the fans. All you people are parading around saying that the movie is scary. It isn't. Its awesome, but not scary. I saw it five years ago when I was 12 and it still wasn't scary. With the creation of the character Leatherface, Tobe Hooper gave us all a character to emulate in our minds as the perfect psycho. A mentally retarded bumpkin cannibal who wears the skin of his victims as a set of three masks. Brilliantly insane. The theme of an almost potentially realistic happening may be frightening to some people, but the movie itself was not scary. Startling at times, but I found myself with my eyes wide open and a smile on my face throughout. As you can do boubt tell I am a slasher fan. And by far, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the best out of all of them. The forefather of the hordes of Jason, Freddy and Michael movies we see, TCM is one of my favorite movies and will forever be remembered in the annals of cinematoghraphy as both a cult classic and trend setter.
