Summary: Good Way To Spend A Friday Nite...
Review: Although this movie wasn't really scary, it did make for a good horror movie. The special effects were pretty good (the opening scene was OUTSTANDING!!!)and the story line/acting were not as bad as some would make it out to be. The only complaint I had was that I wish more time would have been taken to explain the whole "quota" deal. All in all, I enjoyed the movie and look forward to viewing more films by the individuals who brought this story (and "House on Haunted Hill" and "Thirteen Ghosts") to life.

Summary: Its not too shabby
Review: I never saw this movie in the theaters. Not much time to go to theaters especially when friends cannot go with me. So, I dont really know if the movie would have been different for me (for better or worse). Actually, I got the movie yesterday. And I have to say, I like it. It is not too bad of a movie.

I was first introduced to these fellows from House on Haunted Hill. At first I hated that movie, I thought it was aweful. Then I watched it a few times and it just kinda clicked to me. Then I saw Thirteen Ghosts (another remake movie). It was interesting in the theater, I bought the video and saw it a few more times and decided. Again. I liked it.

Now this movie. Hm. Well yes its not the most original movie out there. Then again, what is? I mean, a haunted house is a haunted house, whether its on Gilligan's Island or in Lovecraft's Arkham.

Still. I have to say I like this movie. It has some obviously wonderful gore effects that are "enjoyable" for their ingenuity. Especially the first scene where ohhhh some 80 or more people got slit in half. Then there are some more interesting gore effects later on.

To me, while there are enough cliche's out there, an effective horror movie is one that captivates me instead of just watching it when I hear the women scream (and guys lol) on the screen. The movies from Dark Castle, from Haunted Hill to this, are not known for their newness but how they manipulate the old stories into new ways of saying "boo".

If you want to relax after a hard day from work and see a horror movie that you dont have to think every turn of the script while also being captivated enough to see what happens to each character, sure, buy this. I think it was worth the twenty some bucks I spent.

I myself will be interested to see what these people pop out next.

Summary: pretty good
Review: The movie had some kinda earie parts and sure it was kinda predictable but hey....I thought it was pretty good. The story line was a little cheesy and it didn't really live up to the standards but I thoght it was still worth seeing.

Summary: EEW!
Review: OK, I am a fan of horror films. I am even a fan of blood and gore and the whole gross-out factor. But I wasn't exactly "head over heels" for that opening sequence. It was almost too much, even for me. Yes it was very well done, a little unblelievable but effective just the same. Definitely not for the squeamish. Beyond that, a few jumps and scares, but not as many as I had hoped for. A few laughs, some intentional, and others from sheer stupidity. The one really cool scene that no one seems to talk about is the ballroom scene with Isaiah Washington, where the eroded ballroom restores itself completely new again. Great cinematography. As for the ending, everyone complains, but the truth is, I don't really even remember the ending. Apparently it's not a memorable one. But if you're gathering with friends for a few "eews" and snickers, it's a decent film. Rent before you buy.

Summary: Predictable
Review: I know the end of this movie half way through (and for me that's telling you something.) I guess I've been spoiled by 'The Ring', but this movie's acting was horrible. The opening scene was gory to say the least and the only good part was the flashback.

Summary: Great Idea, But Lousy Execution
Review: What a disappointment this movie was. I went into this hoping that Hollywood could get back to making scary movies that are actually scary. What I got instead was a film with boring indistinguishable characters, very choppy editing, awkward music at times, and a plot twist that is so laughable, you'll be devising a plan to get your money back. After all this kind of story has been done many times before, and Ghost Ship can't even hold a candle to the classics its story is lifted from. The sets and the overall look of the film are good, but the disjointed screenplay is what will get under your skin more than any actual scares. Speaking of scares, Ghost Ship could have been very subtle and creepy, but the director chose to make it an MTV-like in your face shocker with cheap scares and excess gore just for the sake of having gore. Then there's the music..... it would be good one minute with a subtle score, then all of a sudden it would go into full-rage heavy metal music which instantly takes away the creep factor. I'd skip this movie if I were you, but if you must see it, try to see it with friends and split the rental cost.

Summary: Typical for the genre and the times
Review: Any horror movie made during the mid 90s or later is almost always TRASH (exceptions include The 6th Sense, The Others). In these post-modern times, horror movies aren't scary and the characters are more disgusting than the ghosts/monsters. And the music...the heavy metal/alternative noise in Ghost Ship is simply awful. If you want to know how proper horror music sets an atmosphere and a mood, check out any 80s John Carpenter flick or an early 90s Full Moon movie (i.e., Puppet Master, Pit and the Pendulum). I'd recommend the good 80s movie Ghost Story or even the laughable 80s movie Death Ship (OOP, but available at half.com)...over this one.

Summary: Not Bad
Review: I saw this in the theater and was fairly entertained. For a horror movie, the acting was pretty good. The set pieces were excellent. It wasn't very scary however. But then again, I didn't think "The Ring" was particularly scary either.

Summary: Event Horizon on a cruise ship
Review: Aside from the gruesome, gory opening sequence there's really not much to recommend about Ghost Ship. It's basically a rehash of Event Horizon (1997), a much superior horror movie. Event Horizon itself had traces of Alien (1979) and The Shining (1980), but still managed to be an effective, freaky thriller. Ghost Ship offers nothing new, features cardboard characters, predictable situations and annoying music video-type style. This is typical of most horror movies today, though.

This could have been a good movie if better work had been done on the script and the director were more intent on making a movie than a music video. Even the plot is derivative of Event Hoziron. I would recommend renting that instead of Ghost Ship. It's a much more effective, scary horror movie. This movie is just a quick fix for the short-attention-span-teen crowd.

Summary: welcome aboard!
Review: I like this dvd it is so cool. I haven't seen the movie yet. This is from steve beck which also did 13 ghosts and also from the people who did house on haunted hill including dark castle pictures. I like the kind of horror movies where you don't know what's going to happen. This movie is about a salvage crew that discovers a famous ocean liner that's been missing for 40 years on the bering sea. They travel to the bering sea and find it.
They discover it with no passengers or crew.. or so they think...
just like in 13 ghosts and house on haunted hill, lots of creepy stuff start happening and they become trapped on the ship and instead of fighting for treasures, they fight forn their lives as they try to escape the haunted and ghostly ship.
