Summary: "I'm a salvager, just like you..."
Review: This is an excellent movie, I'm a fifteen yearold teenager, 'surprise surprise' who enjoyed this tremendously. I thought The Shining was rather boring to be honest with you...so come on, live a little. I loved Juliana MARGILIE'S ..., not whatever her name is, character.

And Desmond Harrington couldn't have done a better job as Jack Ferriman, I give it five stars for repetitively watching the DVD over and over again, hoping for a sequel.

Summary: Great start, lousy finish!
Review: "Ghost Ship" starts off wonderfully, with the brilliant opening credits and intriguing first scene. Things quickly go downhill from there as it piles on cliche after cliche and disappoints with a cheesy and predictable ending.

"Ghost Ship" recycles all the usual haunted house material, but because it's about a haunted ocean liner, it very nearly redeems itself. Yes, doors open by themselves to reveal hanging corpses. Yes, there's a glimpse of a character who shouldn't be there. Yes, there's a cigarette burning in an ashtray that hasn't been used in 40 years. And yes, there's a struggle between greed and prudence as the dangers pile up. These are all usual elements in haunted house movies, but here they take place aboard the deserted--or seemingly deserted--hulk of the Antonia Graza, an Italian luxury liner that disappeared without a trace during a 1962 cruise to America and has now been discovered 40 years later, floating in the Bering Strait.

A salvage crew led by Gabriel Byrne and Julianna Margulies sets out to capture this trophy, which could be worth a fortune. They are told about the ship by Ferriman (Desmond Harrington), a weather spotter for the Royal Canadian Air Force. He managed to capture some photos of it, and tips them off in
return for a finder's fee. On board the salvage tug are Murphy the skipper (Byrne), Epps the co-owner (Margulies), and crew members Greer (Isaiah Washington), Dodge (Ron Eldard), Munder (Karl Urban) and Santos (Alex Dimitriades). Under the time-honored code of horror movies, they will disappear in horrible ways in inverse proportion to their billing--although of course there's also the possibility they'll turn up again.

The most absorbing passages in the film involve their exploration of the deserted liner. The quality of the art direction and photography actually evoke some of the same creepy, haunting majesty of those documentaries about descents to the grave of the Titanic. There's more scariness because we know how the original passengers and crew members died (that opening scene has a grisly humor), and because the ship still seems haunted--not only by that sad-eyed little girl, but perhaps
by others.

The film piles on the gore, but doesn't go for many shocks or scares. It takes almost an hour for the first crew member to die, but admittedly, tension slowly does build, leading up to that grisly moment. Style and atmosphere are definitely a plus here and for the most part, the film works well. Unfortunately, the creepiness and tension of the first hour is lost in what is a horrific final twenty minutes. The cheesy final scene is the icing on the cake, ruining an otherwise superior horror film.

Is it worth seeing? Depends. It breaks no new ground as horror movies go, but it does introduce an intriguing location, and it's well made technically. The promising start gave me such hope. Too bad it didn't reach its full potential. Overall, it's better than you expect but not as good as you
hope.

Summary: Yeah, right
Review: Another movie that had a great story line ripped to shreds by predictable scenes and cliche-like story sequences. I am a horror movie buff, but the recent surge of so-called horror movies have left a lot to be desired. If you see this movie with the intention of expecting it to be a total B movie, then it might not be bad. To a certain extent, I expected it. I don't know if the intent was to make this movie scary or gory (I feel there is a difference between the two), but this was all gory. The opening scene with the cord is a bit much. I felt like saying out loud "yeah, right."
Why do they have to make these "ghost" movies into "action" movies? Is it what people want? I wanted to see a movie about ghosts.I wanted a little suspense. It's weird, because I did like some parts of this movie, but, by the end, I felt like I had seen this story a hundred times.

Summary: Stink Ship
Review: If you really want to enjoy this movie, go into it knowing that it stinks. Expect the worst and you'll have a good time. Believe all these teenaged suckers giving it 5 stars and talking about how great it is, and you'll be disappointed. This movie isn't even close to 5 stars. I gave it 2- one extra star for giving my girlfriend and I something to make fun of for 90 minutes.

Someone needs to remind Hollywood that horror films are supposed to be scary. All horror movies are generally dumb, but when they are dumb and weak the line should be drawn. It was a good concept, getting stranded on a rickety, rusty cruise ship full of ghosts, but they blew it.

This movie is weak like Jeepers Creepers, and Phantoms. Visually, they try to make it look and feel like "The Shining", but it doesn't come close to that scary or cool. For about 30 minutes it's tense and you'll get into it, but after that short period you'll want out. It stops being scary and all you have left is just stupid. But since they're digging up their talent from ER's dumpster, has-beens or wannabes what could we expect? Juliana whatever-her-name-is left ER to do movies... I hope she's proud of herself. Not only was her acting bad, but she wasn't even a likeable character. If I was the bad guy, I'd have whacked her first.

But then a blind grandmother could pimp slap the main villain in this movie. I have finally found a villain less threatening and menacing than effete bad-guy in Stargate (the movie)!

I'm not taking up any more of my time talking about it. Go ahead and click on how this review didn't help you, but don't say you weren't warned. If you have to see it, see it. But be smart like me: Rent this, or better yet be smarter, don't bother with it at all.

Summary: Great Movie for Sunday Night
Review: This film has been unfairly maligned by the critics. I personally loved it. I thought the plot was original, an excellent cast of actors. I was not to crazy about the ending but this movie is not useless waste of film the critics have made it out to be. A great movie for Sunday night.

Summary: Great story, medium movie!
Review: The story was one of the best ever written. The script was o.k. The directing below medium. It's a story about a ship that was lost for many years and now was discovered by a group of searchers, hiding its secrets tied in it until...

Summary: The end just plain [was unacceptable]
Review: This movie was really cool, until the ... end. It is spooky and freaky but it needed a new end. Because the Ghost!!! is like Jason and cant die. I give 2 stars just because of the beginning kills.

Summary: A Good Watch for B Horror Fans
Review: The critics have been far too harsh on this movie. The creators aren't out to make highbrow films - they just like to scare their audience. If you're a fan of the old Saturday or Sunday afternoon black and white horror flicks, you'll appreciate Ghost Ship for what it is - great B movie horror. The setting is great, the story good, the actors do a good job in creating their characters, the opener is gorey and I found it had several good scares in it.

Not for the weak of stomach (a scene about half way through literally made me gag) nor for kids under 14 or so. But if you liked 13 Ghosts or House on Haunted Hill and are tired of horror movies that feature teenagers and/or screaming female victims, you'll be happy to curl up with some popcorn and dim the lights for an enjoyably creepy experience.
