Summary: From Mosquitoes to Spiders... with no improvement
Review: Spiders (Gary Jones, 2000)

Gary Jones, the man who gave us the inimitably bad _Mosquitoes_ and various episodes of "Hercules" and "Xena" is back with yet another movie about big bugs with bad special effects. My local vidshack had this as a two-day rental, something usually reserved for popular films (to keep them on the shelves, natch), which led me to the illusion that it might actually be a worthwhile movie. More fool me.

Once I figured out that it was typical Grade-Z shlock, I wanted to like it. Really. Some of Hollywood's best films of the 80s are on this scale of badness (Night of the Creeps comes to mind, and the wonderfully silly Troll). Problem is, those movies had something that transcended the stupidity. Maybe they just didn't take themselves seriously-- a flaw this film has in spades.

It is, however, the first leading role for up-and-coming actress Lana Perrilla (who also popped up in a much more minor way in last year's cult hit Very Mean Men), who, if there is any justice in this world, will be a supermodel soon. Her performance-- at least until the obligatory love story crops up towards the end of the film-- is the only thing that makes this halfway watchable. Had they spent a few more million on special effects and gotten a better supporting cast, it might have been watchable all the way round; of course, it wouldn't have been a Gary Jones joint, either. *

Summary: LAME SCRIPT BUT OK EFFECTS
Review: SPIDERS (Trimark) and ARACHNID (Lions Gate) are a perfect double creature feature. As you might guess big spiders dominate these two low budget flicks. In Spiders, a college newspaper reporter is assigned to cover the space shuttle landing. When the shuttle crash-lands, they sneak into a restricted area and stumble upon a secret (is there any other kind?) government experiment that has, as they say, gone horribly wrong. Spiders have been injected with alien DNA and now, as is always the case in such matters, there's hell to pay. Arachnid has a group of scientists on a secret mission crash-landing on a South Pacific island where alien spiders run rampant. Both films have some pretty good jolts, but the lame, predictable stories weaken some of the better special effects.

Summary: Yikes!
Review: The beginning of this, i.e., Spiders VHS , movie has allot of promise and gives the viewer a sense that one is verily going to enjoy this movie. However, mid way through it turns really hideous with bad lines, predictable action and campy acting. To think that Spiders was a big budget movie sends shivers down me spine since they seem to have wasted the movie with a sense of urgency and did a cut a past job when it came to the script. Take some ideas from this movie and some from that. Mix it all together and we will present the end result..... Not Recommended.

Summary: Caught in the Web
Review: This is a bad movie and I know bad movies. It has very cheesy special effects and I'm not even going to talk about the C level actors involved in the production. It had some potential. The plot involves a NASA experiment involving spiders and alien DNA along with the black ops government agency that is required in films of this genre. Sounds pretty good so far, right? The sequence in the Area 51 like government HQ seems to drag on forever. There are veiled references to the secrets concealed in the facility that are more interesting than the pedestrian "Ripley hunts unseen enemy" rift from the ALIEN movie series. The pace does pick up once the spider gets loose in the town. If you're looking for a movie about giant animals gone berserk I suggest you stick with the tried and true Giant Snake films.

Summary: This movie is the best movie that I have ever seen!!
Review: This is the best movie that I have ever seen. It completely changed my life. I was two minutes away from committing suicide when I saw the beginning, and decided to watch it. It totally changed my life. I am now ever so happy to be alive. It gave me a whole new lease on life. I have never been so happy to be alive in my life. Special thanks to everybody that had anything to do with the creation of this movie. I love you all.

Review: This movie has great special effects. The picture quality was very clear and the sound was great. The movie kind of brings back the 1950's horror flicks for me. Giant bugs and people running in the streets were the norm during the Atomic Age. I'm sure that the plot was standard, with government bad guys, who you love to hate, and a secret base etc., but I enjoyed it. If you like old style monster movies, I recommend seeing this sleeper.

Summary: Spiders, Spiders same old movie
Review: This movie is so predictable and boring it makes you feel like an idiot for actually taking the time out to view it. I am a horror movie fanatic and was very let down from a movie with the same basic plot as all the other ones concerning bugs. STAY AWAY! SPIDERS IS A WASTE OF TIME!
