Summary: A LANDMARK MOVIE
Review: This movie rocks. Instead of the usual CGI monsters we see today GREMLINS is done in the good old puppet/muppet style. From the cute and cuddly Mogwai to the scaley and ugly gremlins themselves they are iconic and more than just a money-making franchise. I was scared when I first saw this movie (when I was 5) so it may be a little too nasty for family viewing but don't let that put you off watching it with older kids (7+). Jerry Goldsmith's lively score is a real highlight of this mayhem filled extravaganza. All Gremlins want to do is have fun. How do they go about doing that? By smashing everything! A logic I myself identify with and understand.

The DVD is in awesome Dolby 5.1 and is undermatted at 1.78:1 instead of the theatrical 1.85:1.

Summary: Since people are constantly asking me....
Review: If you've never seen the film: Gremlins is very barely a horror flick, though, ironically, it had the most to do with the invention of the PG13 rating in 1984. There is an excessive number of pointless sightgags [and a few subtle and clever ones, including A BOY'S LIFE playing at the cinema] and childish sound effects. Kids *over* thirteen will be insulted by a lot of this film.

That aside, it was a fairly original idea...which has been exploited everywhere else, since; you might as well see where it began.

Regarding the DV: the missing scenes [Reinhold locking himself in the safe, et cetera] aren't on the disc, which is disappointing; the best parts of the film have been removed, and can't be found anywhere right now. The DV also passed on the obvious chance to include a desktop theme for DVRoms, which might have been amusing.

As for the gremlins themselves--since that's what I'm apparently some sort of expert on--they're far more interesting than the one who beat up Bugs Bunny; but the best gremlin I've seen was in the cinematic Twilight Zone release.

Gremlins is a fun escape from life for ninety minutes; suspend disbelief, and any problemsolving ability you may have, and you'll be fine.

Summary: Hip Hop magic...........
Review: Steven Spielberg has made some great films, and not many of them stick in my mind as much as Gremlins did. When I first watched it I wasn't sure what to expect, horror or comedy. The result was a kind of mixture, a single of horror with a double of comedy. This is a very good film, and I can't wait to see it again on DVD. The characters in the film were great, some funny, some sad, but all very well acted. I thought the effects were very good, and the Gremlins still make me laugh today. Spike (the gremlin leader) was great, but the best Gremlin was the brake-dancing Gremlin in the bar. A great film, on the best home entrainment technology format, a must!

Summary: Wildly imaginative
Review: Once again I am in two worlds, I absolutely love Goldsmith's score for the film, but I am sure the films score would last longer than 20 minutes. I am so glad that one Goldsmith score I know of has been released in its entirety, or as close as possible (eg. Poltergeist, which I own and love dearly)I don't understand why they cut it short. Seriously, those of us who are going to buy the score are a minority group so I can't see how cutting the music down is going to make it any more popular or marketable, I would care to say it would be the opposite.

I'm sure there is a hell of a lot of Score lovers who would wholeheartedly agree.

Anyway, Gremlins is a remarkable example of Goldsmith's ability to create a rich atmosphere that supports the movie and stands alone as truly visual and compelling music.

Summary: The Orginal Furbies?
Review: Joe Dante's hilarious Gremlins is an amazing speeding train of devious fun, amazing tongue & cheek humor, and entertaining film references that make this creature movie one heck of ride for parents and adults alike. The characters of Gizmo and Stripe are very memorable and last long in the memory after the movie's long over with. Who could forget the white haired Stripe saying "GIZMO", Gizmo riding around in a miniature remote control car, or the Gremlins having a bar fight. Gremlins has carved its own niche in American Pop Culture. Though there are some gruesome special effects, they are kept to a minimum, and the film's tone and excesses are perfect for children above the age of seven or eight to enjoy freely. It may be inferior to it's sequel, but Gremlins is filled with irrelevant comedy, quirky dark humor, and contagious energy that will entertain children of all ages.

As for the old DVD edition of Gremlins it contains a widescreen anamorphic presentation, a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track theatrical trailers, and certainly nothing else.

P.S. Watch out for when the Gremlins go to the movies.

Summary: Comical, gross and full of nifty little Gizmo's...
Review: This is a kind of classic film now and seems to be shown on TV every Christmas. I really thought the sequel was better, but this is still a treat with some memorable scenes and Gizmo the little cute mogwai has always been a hit with the little kids.

Summary: Great Flick! A Classic!
Review: Like the furbies of today the gremlins of the past must have inspired it and it's not too gruesome for the kids to watch. My daughter is 6 and loves the goosebumps videos and she loved this one. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Summary: All Hail thoses lil' gremlins!
Review: Well, all I really want to say is that this movie is great. Once you see it, you never forget it. I haven't seen it in a while, but I can still remember the first time I saw it at my friends party...I LOVED it, and I still do now. It has some great scenes in it. OKay, that's all!

Summary: One of the best movies of all time and the best of it's kind
Review: Comic book drawing teen is not very surprised a breed of animal such as he recieves for an early Christmas present exists. But as he fails to follow the guidelines his father lays down for him, the furry little misfit spawns an army of nasty little creatures that wreak havoc on a small town on Christmas Eve. Their not visions of sugar plums, if you catch my drift. Very good and very believable little shocker, being however violent and evil hearted it is, is definately the best the year has to offer. Just don't take what Axton says at the end too seriously.

Summary: I am a Mogwai..Praise Me
Review: ok, frankly i am sick of some of these reviews here on amazon.com. so, i felt obligated to write a review on one of the best 1980's films out there.."Gremlins". We all know the stuff, don't get them wet, don't expose them to light, don't feed them after midnite, and don't let people write horrible reviews about their acting. "Gremlins" is oh so cute with a little twist of horror..HMM...DELIGHTFUL..So, i hail you little Gizmo and all of your little Magwai friends.
