Rating: Summary: I Wish This Movie Would Go Away...Forever! Review: I saw this on cable. It is terribly pedestrian, terribly predictiable, terribly stale. How I wish, how I wish I never wasted 1.5 hours of my life wishing, wishing, wishing and waiting for the movie to actually get good. Wes Craven directed this film. It was supposed to be his latest money-making franchise after "Scream". Well, I guess it is a franchise, but not a very successful one. There are probably 200 other horror films I'd recommond before this one because there's nothing intelligent or horrorific about.
Rating: Summary: Ehhh... Review: *spoilers ahead* I haven't seen Wishmaster in awhile, so forgive me if I get some of the details wrong, but I consider this to be a so-so movie at best. It gets some kudos for a disturbing, albeit chunky, villain and some creative ways to kill people, but it's not enough to justify all the stupid plot twists. Okay, he's an evil genie like the one in 101 Arabian Nights, he gets people to wish for things and then turns the wishes against them, that's fine. But then he doesn't even follow his own rules. Does he have to get people to make a wish before he can kill them? When the security guard says he'd like "an escape", does that translate to drowning in one of those Houdini water tanks? The guard didn't actually escape from anything. So why go to all the trouble? Then after running away for hours, the heroine defeats the villain by simply wishing none of this had ever happened. If she'd thought of that earlier, she could have prevented the whole movie. If she'd been smart, she'd have wished for the genie to be sealed up forever, but this way we can have a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Better than most horror movies today. Review: This isn't your friendly blue genie from Aladdin, no this is your evil, demonic wish granting monster. After being released from his prison in a gem stone, this hideous djinn must find the person who released him and grant them three wishes, leaving a high body count along the way with people who mess with him.I'll give this movie credit for it's originality. There are several forced scares that don't work, some of the acting and dialogue is atrocious, but I don't expect much from B-horror movies, if only to be entertained. On that note, Wishmaster succeeds. There's plenty of gore and carnage for the average horror fan, a truly evil villan (Andrew Divoff) and an adequate heroine who must stop the creature. It also features cameos by several horror veterans including Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, and Robert Englund. If better horror movies like Halloween or The Exorcist are checked out, then give Wishmaster a try, it's ninety minutes well spent.
Rating: Summary: I WISH It Was Never Made Review: One of my stupid friends made me see this dung-fest. It might SOUND good, but don't be fooled. It is about an ancient demon called you guessed it- The Wishmaster. He basically screws people over with their wishes in the most idiotic ways imaginable. It has an all star horror movie fame cast: Robert England, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, Tallman's vioceover, and this new Wishmaster guy. Most of the stars roles are pointless however, because they play victim 0 dimensional characters, except for Robert England. But even he is not in enough of the movie. There is one very unintentionally funny "dramatic" scene where the heroine talks to her sister, the acting is apalling. The one part where they are talking about a past family crisis .I would say that that is worth the price of the rental alone, but I cant, because that would be like telling you to spoon-feed yourself through dirty cat litter until you get to the piece of candy on the bottom of the box. Bottom Line: Don't watch this movie, not even if you like Grade B horror movies, because this one tries to be good, therefore it isn't very funny. There are plenty of other much better Grade B horror movies out there like Dead Alive, Sleepaway Camp 3, or even Friday the 13th Part 3. If you must see a Wes Craven PRODUCED movie, watch Dracula 2000. All in all, please stay away. 1/2 of a star out of 4 stars
Rating: Summary: Your Wish Is Granted!!!! Review: I have to say if it wasn't for the Boogeymen compilation I would've probably never viewed this film. The clip I saw and the movie trailer made it look interesting. It was well worth seeing in my opinion. Wishmaster is about an evil ancient genie referred to as the Djinn. The Djinn (Andrew Divoff) can make your most desired and wildest wished come true. But at what cost? well only your soul. The saying goes, "Be careful for what you wish for because you just may get it". Divoff is great in this film and steals the show. Making everyone pay for their greed in a way they can not possibly phathom. The movie itself is not really scary but it is very entertaining as you wonder what the next victim will wish for and how they will pay the ultimate sacrifice. Wishmaster is also the first movie to contain 3 of the greatest names in horror legend. Robert Englund (Freddy) Tony Todd (Candyman) and Kane Hodder (Jason). Even though their parts are small I just thought it was cool that they were in there. If you like horror movies then Wishmaster is definitely worth an evening.
Rating: Summary: MAKE YOUR WISHES!!! Review: This movie wasn't scary, but it was a good gore filick and is an enjoyable family type horror film with lots of blood. It was just a fun film to watch with films and is a good starter for those who aren't quite ready for real horror films like The Exorcist, Pet Sematary, and Salem's Lot. 1 star as horror, 5 stars as a gore film!
Rating: Summary: My first (and last) wish is never to see "Wishmaster" again. Review: My first wish after seeing "Wishmaster" is never to see "Wishmaster" again. The film is billed as a Wes Craven production, and it shows in almost every aspect of its creation. The story lacks the potency and credibility that Craven, as a director, has mastered many times over; the acting consists of one-note performances that bog the characters down; the gore, oh the gore, fills pretty much every other scene with grizzly images of disgusting viscera that is neither shocking nor frightening. The biggest disappointment is that the film never rises above the level of straight-to-video releases that dominate rental shelves nowadays. It begins with a narration that relates the history of the Djinn, a mysteriously powerful entity capable of granting three wishes to one who would summon such a spirit from his prison, a rather large, valuable gemstone. Of course, these wishes do not come without a price, that being that the wish itself is not exactly what its wisher intends. Case in point: when released upon the streets of New York after the precious gem is discovered in an artifact statue shipped across the Atlantic, the Djinn is freed and ready to wreak havoc. He takes the face of a human as a disguise; later, when buying an expensive suit, he asks the store clerk what she wants more than anything in the world. "To be beautiful forever," she replies; he, in turn, tranforms her into a store mannequin. The concept isn't entirely without originality; a dark spin on the three wishes scenario hasn't really been done. It's a shame that after "Wishmaster," it still has yet to be done in a manner that does it justice. There is a story, albeit a very tepid one. Young gemologist Alexandra (Tammy Lauren), who works for an auction house, is given the gem to study its value and worth. She sees something in her microscope, and asks a friend to run some tests on it, unaware that she has awakened the Djinn, and will be the one chosen to make three wishes in order for the rest of his kind to be freed from the void between worlds. The problem with this plot is that it never breaches the bounds of predictability; we know what's going to happen, how it will happen, and what will come next. Of course, this allows the filmmakers to dabble in visual excess, supplying the audience with a cornucopia of violence, bloodshed, and gruesome gore effects. The opening scene that sets up the back story of this menace features some nice effects work, though as the road becomes long and ever-so-cumbersome, each new effect is just another notch in the dashboard. Once the ending rears its ugly head, crowning the movie is a cliched bloodbath of mutilation, bodily fluids and high-pitched screams from unconvincing extras, it's all gone to hell in a handbasket. A cast composed mostly of unknowns make for some awkward moments of unbelievable emotional outbursts and feeling. Lauren is hardly star material, her forced facial expressions and uneven force unable to give us a feel for Alexandra's situation. Andrew Divoff, as the Djinn, is the sole saving grace of the film; he supplies just enough acting relish to give the antagonist a humorous approach in certain moments. Of course, cockiness and gore do not make up for lapses in the storytelling department, where "Wishmaster" fails to make good use of the concept it so blatantly smothers.
Rating: Summary: Wishes have unintended consequences Review: This horror movie in question, i.e., Wishmaster VHS ~ Tammy Lauren is one of the better movies that I have seen in a long time. The premise is quite interesting and does raise many moral and ethical questions which is quite rare in this genere which focuses most of the time on body count and cguts and gore. Highly Recommended.
