Rating: Summary: A cult classic! Review: I have looked for this movie for so many years because it was one of my favorite all-time, scary/funny, drive-in movie. The special effects are so hokey-- yet they are great because they are what they are-- B-movie genius. This movie is a must-see movie for anyone who claims to be a cult movie fanatic. If you have not seen "Squirm," you have not experienced true art!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty awaful Review: I just watched an old tape I had of this MST3k episode. The movie iseven worse thanI remembered. Although the beginning and ending had a few good scenes, most of the time there's nothing special. The acting is very terrible, the story is stiff, the directing is poor, the sound editing is bad, and most of the time the music is a mess. Someone here commented on how the beginning says this movie is based on a true story. Well, the end credits say that the characters and event are fictional and any resemblence to real life is coincidental. There's no point in having that disclaimer, though, since the movie doesn't exactly resemble anything in real life. Luckily, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode was really good. Without the funny comments of Mike and the robots, this movie is unwatchable.
Rating: Summary: From Squirm country! Review: I lived about 5 miles from where this movie was made. In fact, my oldest brother lived in the "Squirm house"! I remember that there were rubber worms all over the place. Back then the movie poster alone scared the hell out of me; now I laugh at this movie. I saw it not too long ago on MST. Too funny!
Rating: Summary: Squirm is the definitely not for the squeamish!!! Review: I myself recently bought Squirm on video after i saw it for the first time on Bravo. Before watching this film I read the book by Richard Curtis (not him from Notting Hill fame i don't think. The book was horrifying. Especially the prologue where you find out what happened to Roger and his first encounter with the worms (which he shortly mentions on the film during the fishing scene) but they never show this in the film. I believe that if they did, the beginning would have been much more terrifying. As for the film itself, whichever way you look at it; it is a cult classic. It makes you laugh and makes you squirm at the same time. Ok some of the acting wasnt brilliant but if you look beyond that, squirm is a scary movie. Especially if you have a phobia about worms because you could be watching to something that could actually happen if you mess with mother nature. The worms and special effects are still good. Rick Baker does a good job of the make up FX for the worm victims even though there wasn't enough carnage when they move to the town. It could have done with more victims. Although the sheriff deserved to die and for him there was no escape when the worms invade the sleepy town of Fly Creek, Georgia. I for one would love to see a sequel with much more carnage and plenty for scenes where you can see what damage the worms can really do. You never see their full potential in this film. You do however see what they can do during the fishing scene where roger has his second encounter with the worms and it aint pretty!!!!
I disagree when one of the reviewers on this page said roger doesn't try to pull them out of his face. He does but only one as it hurts him too much to remove the rest. If you are looking for a film this Halloween to terrify you and make you look under the sofa, Squirm is a very good choice. Even if you only see it once, its worth it because after watching it, you won't be able to forget it. Don't see the PG version (i don't know how they made a PG version out of this film) see the 18 or R rated version and sit back with a plate of spagetti and enjoy the terror of SQUIRM.
Rating: Summary: The Movie Squirm(Fact Or Fiction) Review: I really enjoyed watching this movie when I first saw it in the 1980's when I was around 17 years old,I am glad to finally own the video.I guess that the scariest concept of the movie(that is never discussed anywhere)is that at the beginning it states that it is based on a true story. I guess after checking a map of Georgia I found that Fly Creek does not exist in the state.I am wondering if the placement of the movie might of been changed to Fly Creek to avoid any curious Fans of the movie. I have always been curious if anyone knew anything about the supposed true story that this movie is based on.... I rate this movie at the highest rating not only because the makeup effects were done by the Famous Makeup Artist Rick Baker but also because of the Haunting musical score(A little boy singing a song). The Movie Squirm is a good movie to rent but a better movie to own and a great movie to watch when it gets dark outside and every bump or noise you hear gives you the Willies.
Rating: Summary: Cheesy fun Review: I remember seeing this on tv and it scared me a bit back in the day for a few reasons. However presented here its a gem, the quality of the picture and widescreen are great but the movie isn't scary but at times laughable, it does maintain a certain atmosphere and that is why I love it. The acting isn't bad and you have to take it with a grain of salt....killer worms? ....could happen, never know? Heh
Rating: Summary: You have got to see this movie Review: I remember when squirm first came on tv, I thought that this movie was very scary and it still is. Over time some movies that you thought were scary were not, but this movie still gives me the shivers when I see it.
Rating: Summary: I love this movie! Review: I saw this movie when I was a little girl, and it scared the living daylights out of me - I think I saw it on the Elvira show at night (amongst other great horror classics!). The worm-face scene is still imbedded in my mind!. I saw the movie for the first time again, and while the acting wasn't the very best in the whole world, goodness knows, the creepy-ness was way overboard! I was so happy to find that I could actually buy it! This movie has been added to my horror classics, and will forever hold a special place in my heart!
Rating: Summary: NO springs! Review: I saw this on MST3k's penultimate episode, and I don't think I'd be able to stomach it any other way. Anyone who did see it there will instantly recognize this review's title, in case you're wondering. The cast includes the most Southern people in the world. I think these people should be in Guiness! Basically, the plot is that a storm knocks down a power line that sends all its electricity into the ground. Instead of being instantly fried, these worms become millipedes and start attacking people. Into their midst strolls a wormy (pun intended) antique dealer from New York who plays Nancy Drew and tries to find out why there are so many skeletons around. Also look for R.A. Dow (in his only film appearance) as the local worm dealer's son. He spouts such classic Southern lines like "Now you gonna be da worm face," "You ain't got no meat doh boy," and "I told you, it's a ZOOprise!" Crow puts it best: "There is a lesson to be learned from all this. Never go to the South for any reason."
Rating: Summary: Pretty Bad! Review: I too saw this movie on MST3k and I thought it was pretty bad! 1. It's set in GEORGIA and has BUCK-TOOTHED ACTORS. 2.It seems to try to be a horror classic or something and totally fails because of its stupidity. 3. The whole "electricity and/or radiation transforms harmless animals into giant creatures that terrorize a town" plot has been used a million times before in American AND Japenese films. Godzilla, anyone? I would have given it 1 star but the BUCK-TOOTHED GEORGIAN ACTORS made it kind of funny.
