Rating: Summary: Why did I see this piece of trash?* Review: "I Spit on Your Grave" may well be the kind of film that might be given a four star rating by people with sick minds.Last I checked,I'm the complete opposite.Sure,I love horror films.Horror films with good taste. After viewing this movie, there are no doubts in my mind that I should have had my head checked.I should have been locked up in a loony ward for buying this ... A young woman is raped a few times by a group of men who later get their just desserts.Everything in this film is really bad.The acting. The castration scene is one example of bad acting. My question is why did this girl just leave when they were harrasing her? This is not a horror movie. This is not a movie at all.I know a great horror film when I see one.I Spit on Your Grave may have been the kind of film I would have rush to rented on video fifteen years ago.Guess I smartened up.
Rating: Summary: THE WORST FILM OF ALL TIME Review: Forget Plan Nine, forget every movie you ever heard was the worst ever. This is it.A sick and depraved exercise in rape and revenge.Thats it, a woman gets raped and gets her revenge. No character developement neccessary.Just a girl and 3 rapists. The movies brutal depiction of the plot is ultra realistic, almost in a supposed snuff film way.I do'nt know who's idea of entertainment this would be,but it's not even worth it for those who live where the thing was banned. No one should watch this it's just sick. The one good thing about this is it's an excellent reason to buy a DVD player. If any company would waste time releasing this on DVD then the floodgates must be opening and everything you can think of will be coming soon.
Rating: Summary: Shocking, Terrifying and Disturbing -- A Classic Review: What was I expecting? When I picked up this title, I noticed two things: the words "I spit on your grave" in blood-shot red; and a scantilly clad lady with a knife in her hand. I thought, "Well, this is just one more slasher film. Probably so bad you'll have to laugh." Boy, was I dead wrong. I Spit on Your Grave is one of the most disturbing, terrifying and thought-provoking movies I have ever seen. It begins quite peacefully when Jenny (Camille Keaton) arrives in the country to write a book. She's rented a cottage by the river. Pretty, slender, and from the big city, she catches the eye of four locals. They try to catch her attention, but appropriately, she ignores them. Unhappy that she has refused them, the four decide to teach her a lesson. One day, while she is in her little canoe sunning, they come by in a motor boat and take her away, against her will, to a hidden part of the woods. I can't even begin to describe what happens in this movie's next chapter. All I will say is that I was horrified, petrified and practically moved to tears. If you cannot imagine what it is like to be helpless and at other people's mercy, just watch this movie. One of the four guys orders one of the others to kill her so she won't witness against them. Unbeknownst to the other three, the supposed killer is unable to complete his task. Presumed dead by the three, she slowly recovers from her injuries. Once recovered, she only has one purpose in her mind and heart. One by one, she plots the death of her four attackers. What is amazing in this movie, is that during each act of revenge, you wonder whether or not she will succeed. Brilliantly directed and acted, I Spit on Your Grave is a classic. Camille Keaton's performance is so stunning the whole thing seems like it is actually happening. You just don't get performances like this from Meryl Streep or Sally Field. This is raw and real. But be warned, this is NOT for the faint of heart.
Rating: Summary: Yawn........yawn.....yawn..... Review: This movie is 100 minutes of nothingness. Those who lambasted it might have overeacted; those who praised it were surely misguided. The fact is this movie is a complete waste of time -- both in watching it, and in giving it a split second of thought afterwards. Some of those who find themselves liking it seem to like it because "well, it wasn't as bad as some critics said." What a compliment. This movie will satisfy NO movie fans. Fans of exploitation horror flicks will surely be dumbfounded by the filmmaker's inept attempt to inject "seriousness" to the material. Those who looked for violence a la Scream or Friday the 13th will be disappointed by how little the amount and uncreative the effort. Those who hope to see some soft-core pornography will surely be let down (in more ways than one) because the realistic way those rape scenes are filmed simply isn't designed to titillate the viewer (those who enjoy watching them must be sadists or potential rapists). Some praise the realism of the rape scenes (attributable to Camille Keaton's all-too-real performance as the victim) and the supposedly feminist subtext in the scenes where the victim kills her rapists for revenge. But let's get real here. Does the movie back up these important real-life topics with any semblance of substance and intelligence? It sure as hell does not. The story is of moronic simplicity; long, meaningless scenes fill the gaps between the rapes and the revenges. The director simply counts on the mere images of a woman being raped and her rapists being maimed and killed to fulfill his highly questionnable purpose. Such shallowness inpires the viewer to think: why should I CARE? And I didn't. To see an example of a serious, artistic film about a woman's rape and her rapists punished, one should check out Ingmar Bergman's "Virgin Spring". Director Meir Zarchi could have learned so much from it.
Rating: Summary: A Slasher Film of Different Sorts... Review: An ambitious New York writer, Jenny, leaves her big city home for some peace and quite out in the country. But soon enough her all too pleasant stay turns into a nightmare beyond reality. She is savagely raped and beaten by four merciless men and left for dead. She survives and (violently) gets the revenge that she deserves. By reading any summary of this film, you will write it off as a slasher film. But really it is much more. Though extremely violent and disturbing, it serves a purpose and has a lesson. See the film to find out how. In a final note: this film had a pretty low budget so do not expect a whole lot out of it and you should be pretty surprised.
Rating: Summary: Belongs on Your Female Revenge Movie Shelf Review: I confess I have a warm, soft spot in my heart for violent female revenge movies. At the top of the list are LA FEMME NIKITA and THE LAST SEDUCTION. MS. 45 is a very stylish core collection here. And so we come to I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE. In a way the most realistic of the bunch (the hillbilly rapists are incredibly believable, much more than the hillbillies in DELIVERANCE though not as menacing). But also the simplest plot. And yet, not quite so simple. We know what our heroine is going to do. But she diesn't do it by brute force, she does it by trickery and guile, making the revenge ever-so-sweeter. Be prepared for a cheaply produced movie--stitches appear on our heroine's face even though she didn't see a doctor, but a couple of days later they are all gone as if they never were there at all, even though she didn't take time out to go to New York to see a top plastic surgeon. All right, so the makeup department was underbudgeted. And the pace of the movie is a bit slow, perhaps because it was done way back in 1978, when it was probably fast for those days. Three stars coming from this cheapskate reviewer is high praise, and I believe you'll thoroughly enjoy this movie if you don't go in expecting DELIVERANCE. It definitely belongs on the Female Revenge Movie shelf, which is saying a lot because it's a short shelf of real goodies.
Rating: Summary: A Grave Mistake Review: This is one bad film. It has all the style and charm of a 1970 porno flick but with none of the benefits. Okay there me sex and violence, but is that enough? As that isn't even done well I saw no. All in all this is one Nasty Video.
Rating: Summary: Too Discusting to be Enjoyable Review: I saw this UNCUT version back in 1983 or so...I was 16 at the time. I could still remember how disturbing it was, and how I felt afterwards - It stuck with me for a few days. The bathtub scene is NOT the one I remember the most, but the brutal rape scene..True, not much was shown - But the idea is most certainly there. I found it rather discusting and still do to this day. This is NOT a horror film, nor is it scary..So, if your looking for a horror film, dont look here - Actully, if your looking for ANY kind of film - Skip this one entirely. The only GOOD thing that comes out of this film is that it makes other tastless movies look not so bad after all.........
Rating: Summary: I spit on this Movie Review: I love cult films, I have always prided myself in being open minded and out going, which is why(after reading a couple good reviews)set out to rent, "I spit on your Grave". Please i plead you to avoid this movie if you have a week stomach or a consience. There is lots of blood and goor(which looks fake but can still make you uneasy) and of course if you read the back of the box you can guess there is lots of nudity. Parents be warned this is definatly not for the young or young at heart (it opens your eyes to what really happens outside of candyland). If you like cult movies then proceed if you only watch mega block busters than this is deffinatly not for you A roten script, typical cult production values, and a group of actors who where pulled of the street, are what your in for so beware!
Rating: Summary: A Humanatarian Incarnation of "Last House on the Left" Review: The film does what "Last House" tried to do and while "Last House" failed fairly miserably, "I Spit on Your Grave" takes on a very realist and humanitarian vantage point. It places you in a world of agony and suffering as it explores the inhumane condition of a young, fair figured woman brutally raped by a gang of vicous savages whom express no regard for human life. Its depressing atmosphere provokes the thoughts of its viewers. It is not gory but manages to be graphic in its nature all the same. The let down comes in its slow-pace and 45 minute rape/nude marathon through acres of woods scene. Cinematically, the spacious lanscape is briefly glimsed as the woman crawls from its womb, yearning to reach her cabin where her perpentrators already await with more eager sexual anticipation. One character in the gang can envoke sympathy from the viewers being that he is a misfit only scourging different branches of society in search of his place within it. The critical moment comes when he rapes this woman, who he had earlier befriended. The film takes a while to evolve from its genesis and the viewer feels strung out by its slow development. However, those who stick with it will find their patience does not come without its rewards as what they once mistook for an exploitave, sleaze film is actually more-or-less an indepth look into human ideology intertwined with an aspect of revenge and blood lust on the woman's part. NO character is left undefined, crucially, in death their guises of masculanity and overpowerment slip revieling the fear they carried deep within them all along.
