Review: Being a fan of Jamie Lee Curtis and liking her movie Halloween I just had to see Prom Night because she was in it. BIG MISTAKE! The movie was weird, dumb and totally pointless, and compared to Halloween it was too gory! Leslie Nielsen was in this movie too and it was made long before he made all those silly comedy movies he has become so famous for. Prom Night wasted the talents of Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen! I find it amusing the comments by people who obviously have grown up watching Leslie Nielsen in his comedy movies like the Naked Gun movies who seem to think Prom Night was made after those movies but Prom night was made years before Airplane and The Naked Gun movies.

Summary: This Is Why I Didn't Go To My Prom
Review: Prom Night is a very dated, very routine slasher film. I am a sucker for these movies tho. There's nothing special or memorable about this film, unfortunatley. The film begins six years earlier and we witness a group of friends playing and goofing around in an old, abandoned building. Where else would it be?!. Soon, the game turns deadly when the game they are playing takes a perverse turn and ends with a tragedy that you could see coming five blocks away. We skip ahead six years, and are introduced to the Hammond family. Dad is Leslie Nielsen, who is also the school principal. Jamie Lee Curtis plays daughter Kim, and there is also a son and a mother, who is especially heartbroken at this time. The biggest night of any high schooler is coming up. The prom. And wouldn't you know it, someone is plotting to get revenge on the horrible tragedy that occurred six years earlier on that very night. The killer himself is kind creepy, but there is nothing overly intoxicating about his presence or choice of wardrobe. He is dressed in all black, with a ski hood on. Not very colorful, but it works when the film is engulfed in darkness because then he can blend right in and you have no idea where he is. This leads us to the lighting. The film gets very dark in places and is horribly lit. Sometimes you can barely manage to see what the heck is going on. Poorly lit and badly photographed. Leslie Nielsen has a very odd role as Jamie Lee's dad and principal, as I mentioned earlier. He seems to always be there, but then he disappears at the end of the film!. Where did he go?. Maybe he had a prior commitment. Maybe they were setting up him as a red herring. I don't know. All i know is that he had a role going and was there at the time, but he just coompletely vanished. Even when the climax comes and goes and his daughter is involved in it, he is still nowhere to be found. It's just odd and has always bugged me. At least he did the most with his role and made it easy to watch. The only good part about this film is a chase scene through the school. It is an overlong segment with the always present bi**h character that is always a predictable presence in these kinds of movies. But is it genuinely effective in this case. The character wasn't as bad as everyone would of thought, and her chase scene was fun and realistic. It's also funny to know that the actress, credited as Eddie Barton, is actually Anne Marie Martin, who went on to co-star in the cult TV series, "Sledge Hammer", and also married author Michael Crichton, and also co-wrote the screenplay to "Twister". The other characters are all typical characters. Nothing to write home about. The actors are average, but they do bring a sense of real teenagers in that era of time to their roles. They are mostly likeable, but in the end, just knife fodder. The writer had a predictable script that wasn't too inventive or creative, but he had a few things that were a bit out of the norm. Mainly, the kills weren't too overly photogrpahed or violent, and he twisted around the old "make love and die" cliche that is so predominant in most teeny type slashers. A routine effort, but enjoyable in a guilty pleasure kind of way.

Summary: The Scream Queen Does It Again
Review: This was an extremely funny movie!! And I do mean funny! It was much different than I expected it to be. I expected it to be similar to Halloween but boy was I wrong! What was really funny about Prom Night is how the people die. The killings are SO lame it made me laugh so hard I almost cried! It only has one suspensful moment that I can think of, but nevertheless its a classic horror movie. I think my favorite scene had to be Jamie Lee Curtis doing that dance!! I mean she was awesome! I don't think we are going to see her do that in any future movies... It is really cool to see her so young. Don't miss this movie! Its a must.

Summary: Extremely dated, yet entertaining slasher flick
Review: Any movie with Jamie Lee Curtis is guaranteed to be great, and Prom Night is no exception. Filmed after Jamie's success in Halloween, Prom Night continues to set standards for horror movies in the same way Halloween did. A young girl is accidentally killed while playing with 4 other kids in some abandoned building. All 4 kids swear to secrecy, but somebody witnessed the tragedy and will not let the crime go unpunished. The movie fast forwards about 6 years to those same children, who are now teenagers and are getting ready for Prom Night. Strange phone calls are received and people start missing. Jamie Lee Curtis plays the sister of the girl who was killed and Leslie Nielsen (What the heck is he doing here?) plays the father. Prom Night is hardly spectacular, but provides a high amount of thrills and entertainment and sets standards for a lot of horror movies that followed it.

Review: Typical early eighties, late seventies slasher fare made more enjoyable by the presence on Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. Not that their performances were anything to rave about, I just love them. This film contains some genuinely creepy moments but is generally dumb. It's a fun no brainer of a movie. Imbued with cheese and nonsensical dialogue. Did I mention Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. OK Anchor Bay release Terror Train please!! (which is an equally dumb Canadian slasher flick but far more frightening and contains JLC and David Copperfield in his first and only movie role). Cheese! Cheese! Cheese!

Review: In this teen killer flick,a group of kids cause a girl's death while playing a game in an old house but 6 years passed and thse kids are in for it.Jamie Lee Curtis plays the sister of the little girl and I think Paul Lynch is the brother.So Jamie's charater may be saved but for the rest hell awaits.Leslie Nielsen plays the principal of the high school and is Jamie's father.At the prom people are mysteriously missing from the dance floor with all of the other disco people.After people are found dead terror begins.The killer chops someones head off and the head rolls on the dance floor.Everyone runs,screams,and the music is still playing.The killer comes out and tries to harm Jamie's boyfriend since he was in the group with the other dead kids.After the fighting is over they unmask the killer wh happens to be............ Summary: "I'll see you at the prom..."
Review: An axe wielding maniac stalks four friends on prom night, six years after they accidently killed a playmate. The young victim's father (Leslie Nielsen) and siblings (Jamie Lee Curtis & Michael Tough) try to put on a happy face for the prom, but there's an ominous figure lurking in the shadows. No explicit sex and the blood is kept to a minimum, but this isn't terribly invigorating, either. Watchable, and Jamie Lee Curtis gives a great performance as usual. A few good scares. All of the following sequels are in-name only.

Summary: A 'Prom' to remember...
Review: I've read all of the customer reviews on the site here, and am pleased to see how subjective the viewing experience is for this baby. I've never considered it a slasher film; it's much more a mystery melodrama, then a suspense/shocker in the final 30 minutes. In any case-despite its flaws-the thing works splendidly. Opening sequence is eerie and classy for the genre. I remember (as I see some others have too) being surprised as hell by the killer's identity, with a great scene at the end on the sidewalk. I recall reading John Gault's review of this in Canada's "Macleans" magazine...and thinking 'Boy, he got it right.' (Also Vincent Canby in the N.Y. Times wrote a favorable review). Unfortunately, the video transer of the film is murky; this is not Robert New's fault, however. (the cinematographer) See it for Brian Ravok's editing, the mystery itself, and the wonderful build-up to the final 5 minutes. This "Prom Night" was a class act. Kudos Paul Lynch!

Summary: Pure, unadulterated cheese!
Review: Ah, Jamie Lee, queen of the horror fan's heart. In this goofy entry in the dead teen/slasher subgenre, every possible cliche is played to the hilt, with the results being both hilarious and quite endearing. We get references from "Carrie" and "Halloween" as well as countless other stock situations. Jamie Lee plays the ubiquitous "final girl," although in this film we learn early on that she is in no danger from the killer. Those students who ARE being stalked on the night of "Disco Madness" run the gamut of stereotypes for this kind of film: the bitch, the party girl, Mr. popularity, the virgin, the greaser. They are dispatched in typical stalk 'n' slash fashion, but the gore content is pretty tame (although some viewers may be disappointed by this). The soundtrack is a real hoot, with disco songs that sound eerily familiar to popular hits of the day -- you'll be able to spot a couple of BeeGee's knockoffs and an inane "I Will Survive" clone, among others. Best of all is Jamie Lee strutting her stuff in a pointless disco extravaganza. It may not add anything to the movie, but the kitsch level is increased tenfold! Despite its derivative nature and its piecemeal construction, "Prom Night" is a cheese-filled indulgence for those who get a kick out of slasher movies. Strange as it may seem for a horror film, it has an innocence and a slight tongue-in-cheek quality that make it highly entertaining. If you have a sense of humor and an hour and a half to kill on a rainy afternoon, check out "Prom Night." It may not be great cinema, but it is a heck of a lot of fun.

Summary: Clichéd!
Review: Oh come on Jamie. Must you be in EVERY clicéd horror movie? This one goes down to even having the school bully, the slut, and the creepy janitor. Only the killer was a bit of a surprise for me.
