Summary: Valentine Bluffs will reap death.....
Review: My Bloody valentine is one of the better body count films of the early 80's. While the plot is nothing we havent seen before, there are some truly interesting things that set this film aside from the rest of the slasher genre, the two main things being the mine setting which the last half-hour takes place in, and also the actual killer himself. Fans of the slasher horror sub-genre should not be disappointed with this film at all.

There are however a couple of things that disappoint me with this dvd. The first one being the fact that this film is obviously edited and censored in a couple of senes. When I heard about the release of this DVD, I had hoped that the uncut version would at last be released, but alas, this is not the case. Also, the DVD itself is very bare bones. No trailer, No commentary, No production notes, no nothing.

But even having said that, this film still gets 5 stars in my book, its an entertaining slasher horror film that has enough original plot twists to set it apart from the many imitators in the horror genre. Horror fans who enjoy a good late-night body count flick should enjoy this over and over again.

Summary: bloody good time
Review: This has been a favoite of mine for years - so glad it finally came out on DVD! Sure it has some corny 1980 horror movie moments but you can't beat the creepy (and different) setting of the mine. You'll enjoy it if you don't expect all that much and just want a good scare, after all we're not talking Shakespeare here so just enjoy it for what it is! A fun ride. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Summary: "It happened once, it happened twice..."
Review: "...stop the Valentine Dance or it will happen THRICE!"

Yup, another killer slashing up people acting like teenagers again and again as a smallish town tries to restart a tradition stopped by tragedy a generation or so ago. Hey, didn't we just see this plot in The Prowler? There's also the escaped lunatic returning with his axe set on grind plot put to use (see Halloween or, better yet, see Prom Night, which has the exact same plot as MBV, more or less). But what raises MBV above the average slasher is the excellent use of an actual mine, which contributes a wonderful atmosphere to the standard yarn. Sadly this DVD release is the R rated cut and not a restored print. Strictly for those nostalgic for the days when you could not find a movie theater that didn't have a Holiday themed slasher opus currently playing or coming soon, others need not apply.

Summary: It's about time!
Review: Finaly another underated horror caper comes back to light on dvd. My Bloody Valentine was a goody from the first time watching it and still lives up as a keeper till this day -- a bit dated however surpasses a good majority of " friday the 13th" installments. The story is solid and the atmosphere of " valentine's bluff " does justice in creating the perfect backdrop of a suspensfull tale. " Harry Warden did it!" - well thats to be seen. Killer flick!

Summary: FINGERS CROSSED..
Review: Fingers Crossed that this will be the fully uncut version that Paramount are releasing but at the same time it will be nice to see a good widescreen DVD version all the same. I've only ever seen the British cut CIC video version in the past and that did the biz for me. When i was at school in the mid 80s we showed a good but cut print of this at a school horror alnighter along with Phantasm and the Thing, so this film holds many fond memories.
It would also be great to see films like The Prowler(rosemarys killer), The Hills Have Eyes and Class of 1984 getting DVD releases all in uncut widescreen versions{ }

Summary: Come on Paramount, wake up!
Review: This disc will definately be worth buying but only if Paramount release the uncut version. It's a classic slasher movie, better than most of the Friday the 13th sequels but was heavily cut when first released. I haven't really got much faith in Paramount as they are one of the worst DVD producers around. Look what they did to the Friday the 13th films: The same old butchered R rated versions and no extras except the trailers and it's very rare for a Paramount disc to have many extras, even classics like Apocalypse Now and Face/Off. Hopefully they will prove that they are not just fleecing us and release it uncut. More likely they'll wait until everyone has bought this version then re-release an unrated one. I would be very happy if Paramount prove me wrong.

Summary: Heartless Horror
Review: The little mining town of Valentine's Bluff hasn't dared to hold a Valentine's Day dance since the one they had twenty years ago. That night, while everyone was getting drunk and dancing badly, there was a cave-in trapping several miners, and no one heard the alarm over the raucous partying. By the time they dug out sole survivor Harry Warden, he'd gone Alfred Packer on his mates and wasn't very coherent. Harry escaped from custody long enough to cut out the foreman's heart with a pick-ax, and swore as they carted him off to the funny farm that he'd be back to do the same to anyone who ever partied on Valentine's Day again.

But you know how kids are. After two decades, how scary is a threat made by an incarcerated madman who's getting on in years, anyway? While today's new generation of miners are breaking out the booze and decorating for fun, someone else is having his own kind of party. The town sheriff receives a heart-shaped candy box - with a real human heart, inside. Harry Warden appears to have come home...

This is a beautiful Canadian low-budgeter, nicely produced and well-acted by an appealing cast of unknowns. It's clever, original, suspenseful and scary. The script is terrific, for this kind of thing. It's high on atmosphere, and generates some real nail-biting moments.

What's best about My Bloody Valentine is that it's played completely straight, making it a true parody - all of its elements are campy as hell, yet it succeeds brilliantly as a real horror flick. Every cliche is in it, but it's surprisingly original and genuinely unpredictable. It's a simple slasher flick, amazingly turned into a bizarre form of poetry.

Don't miss this one. It's great.

Summary: Better be BLOODY good!
Review: The date is June 24th, 2002, a little over two months before the release of My Bloody Valentine comes to dvd. So I can't give a definate dvd review. But, I wait with baited breath and crossed fingers for my hopes may be dashed if Paramount Pictures does their usual slap-together mode of producing a cherished film on dvd. It is very well known among horror fans that MBV was mercilessly cut upon release. And now that those extra minutes are known to be out there, I can only hope Paramount with do us fans the service of releasing it uncut, widescreen, remastered, with the trailer. Why it is so hard for them to include trailers esapes me like a panicked greased pig! Trailers are great to include so you can show someone who doesn't know the film, what it's like, rather than sit through a half hour or two and then they decide it's not for them. I love the movie and would give it 5 stars only if director George Milhalka is given his original vision. .... With the over-the-top gory movies that have come out since, I think we can handle this now!! If other fans agree, lets start campaigning now!
