Summary: the worst stephen king adaption ever!
Review: this was the worst four hours of claptrap i have ever seen!
stephen king is my favorite author, but he must have been on vacation or paying for his rehab when he wrote this dreadful screenplay.
the movie was never scary and the premise of a haunted house in downtown seattle is ludicrous.i expected frasier and niles to show up with a nice cup of expresso!
what was the motivation of the characters-why would the nice old lady and her friend- companion want to haunt and/ or murder these people?why was this house haunted in the first place?and why were the most interesting characters such as julian sands and kimberly brown (annie) never developed fully?
please do not rent or buy this movie but rather find the much better haunted house movies _"the haunting (1963) or "the legend of hell house"

Summary: Rose Red in familiar King Vein
Review: Stephen King's formula for success has through the years been fairly simple and predictable: take one outcast and persecuted protagonist with psychic abilities, mix well with a group of strange and likewise weird supporting characters and throw in a creepy location in which to place them and you've got yourself a 700-page horror novel [and] mini-series. "Rose Red" is the latest incarnation of a King work to adhere to this time honored peradigm. For those acquainted with the film "The Haunting", you may find "Rose" a bit too similar in design. The story revolves around Joyce (Nancy Travers), a troubled psychology professor and ardent parapsychologist who is putting together field trip to "Rose Red", an immense and forboding haunted house right in the middle of downtown Seattle. The group of investigators consists of 6 psychics of varying abilities and temperments. The focal point of the group is Annie, an autistic clairvoyant with highly developed psychokinetic (mind over matter) powers. Soon after the group arrives, all hell breaks loose (pardon the pun) and our protagonists are literally running for their lives. Can the evil of "Rose Red" be stopped before sunrise? Although the plot shares a great many points with other "group investigates haunted house" movies, "Rose" has the unmistakeable Setphen King stamp which not only ensures an air of terror but brings the characters (cliched as they may be) frighteningly to life. The sets are amazing in their attention to detail and lend an air of perpetural dread to the film. On the down side, the movie is verrry long (4 hours 16 minutes) and could have easily been trimmed to half that length without loosing any pertenant revelations. The acting is mini-series solid yet the characters never seemed to mesh and too much effort was spent on trying to see how each would react to the others in one-on-one scenarios as they wandered through the house. The eventual revelation about the nature of the hauntings at "Rose Red" is original indeed and does much to bring the whole of the story to it's final conclusion. Overall, the movie is a sure-fire scarefest of the highest order. Just make sure you have an ample supply of microwave popcorn on hand.

Summary: Boring to the end
Review: I actually sat through this long and horrible movie to the very end, due to the fact that I spent the money to buy it. I believe this movie could have been cut down to about 90 minutes and even then some fluff would have to have been added just to make it.

The movie revolves around some silly excursion into a Seattle haunted house called Rose Red by some psychology professor (Nancy Travis) and her crew of psychic misfits. For four or more hours (I lost track of time and sensiblity) the viewer is drug around a bland history of the house, people who lived in the house, psychics doing mind tricks, and meager attempts at horror which are about as scary as a pop-up book.

I really enjoyed Stephen King's movies and series in the past, but this is one movie that definitely was made with no thought to a coherent plot or editing table. If you want a cure for insomnia, buy this movie.

Summary: Stephen King has done it again! Another Horrifying thriller!
Review: This movie is SO scary! Lots of grotesque bodies and some pretty scary stuff! It is a must buy. All the actors are wonderful especially when Nancy Travis is in her "crazy" mode!

Summary: chills and thrills
Review: i found this to be a very good movie even though the idea has been used before. quite entertaining and creepy. a little long being over 4 hours in length. but it keeps you watching. not quite as good as the julie harris version of the haunting which was a very good movie but much better than the liam neeson version. this movie will keep you on your toes.

Summary: Much better on DVD than ABC!
Review: I was very disappointed when I first saw this movie on ABC.
I started not to get the DVD, but was impressed with the customer reviews. It was 100% better on DVD! I'm glad I made the plunge and purchased it. I have a suggestion for Mr. King:
Next time go straight to video, or at least someone like HBO where you don't have commercials every eight minutes that's too distracting.

Summary: Best ever work of Stephen King
Review: Rose Red is an amazing movie! The story is so realistic, between the movie and the book it is based upon, The Diary Of Ellen Rimbauer, I honestly can not tell if it is ficton or fact!
I have not seen a movie of this calliber in a very long time, especially one that was meant for television, this movie is so good it should have been made into a feature film in theaters. The story is absolutely amazing, that keeps you on the edge of your seat and guessing through the whole thing. It's a perfect movie for horror fans, as well as those who like to be scared, yet hate to be terrified.
The house used in the film and the set's are reason enough to watch the movie, yet there is also a completely brilliant cast, awsome story and a dvd with lot's of added features that again will keep you guessing whether or not the story actually happened!
I would and do reccomend this movie to everyone I meet! It is definately worth the price and although it is lengthy, you'll sit through the whole thing so concentrated on this amazing film that you'll never know how much time has actually gone by until it's over!

Summary: My Favorite Mini Series since Stephen King's IT!!
Review: I love Stephen King's mini series, I would make sure and set my VCR every time one would come on. This was no exception I had to sit and watch. Yes its long but very detailed and enthrawlling masterpiece. Stephen King captures this Haunted House tale of "Rose Red." If you love good old haunted houses and scary stories you'll love this. It has the sense of reality, maybe perhapes because some haunted houses are real or we would like to think so. Every house has a story, and this one is certainly has it's tale to tell.
It's about a mansion of a house thats been built by John Rimbauer who built it for his wife as a wedding gift. Some gift I have to say. His wife then gets the idea about ghosts, and her having to build the house until it's done. It's a spectacular house with mysteries to every room. And every room having a story to tell. But that's not where the story ends. Dr. Joyce Reardon played by a very great Nancy Travis, loves the story of Rose Red...who wouldn't? She embarkes on getting a group of psychics with their own specialties to awaken the house of Rose Red. The one with the key to open the house is an amazing teenage girl who's Autistic girl named Annie Wheaton who has a special gift. I think that's why I love most of Stephen King's stories he seems to use children as the key to the unseen world. Such as in Stephen King's IT. Not to mention he's a fantastic story teller bringing together a remarkable cast and crew together to tell this haunted tale of which originally aired on ABC. It has a wonderful haunted tale, amazing characters that you'll love and love to hate.
The DVD is a great buy! I was really impressed with it. It has a fantasic The Making of Rose Red. Which is very detailed and I think longer than a half an hour. It goes through the special effects, and how Stephen King got his idea to tell the tale, which is in fact based on the Winchester House in San Jose, California. It also goes through make up, and the cast tells their story of the making of the film. It's Stephen King's first I think since his accident. At least his television story mini series. And not to worry, Stephen King makes an appearance in his movie of course. The making of it is great I loved it. If you like the behind the scene's stuff that goes into the movie. It also pays tribute to David Dukes who sadly passed away in the movie. It also goes into detail of the book, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer, with Dr. Joyce Reardon. But they leave that part up to you whether to believe or not any way it's fun and detailed of the story before the team enters Rose Red. It also has production commentary which I have yet to view and other languages to select. I give the movie and DVD an A+!!! Just remember, "Every house has a story to tell...this one will kill you."

Summary: Never "Heard" of 'im
Review: The oddest thing about this disc is the inclusion of John Heard in the cast listing on the back. Where is he? Unless he plays Dukes's stand-in.

Wait for Robert Wise's "The Haunting" to appear on DVD. It's the best haunted house movie from the best haunted house book.

Don't waste time or money on this exercise in tedium.

Summary: AWESOME
Review: There is no other way to describe this movie. If you did not get to see it when it was on TV then you need to get it here. Steven King is just like he has always been described, the master story teller. He has truly worked his magic on this one. This story, like so many of the others, starts out kind of slow but really peaks toward the end. I have never had a made for TV mini series run chills up and down my spine like this one did. The casting was just perfect and the acting was very well done. It is almost kind of like watching a scary documentary. Like I said before, if you did not see this on TV you need to buy it.
