The actors are wonderful, the scenery is beautiful, the architecture is gorgeous and the computer graphics that they use are AMAZING. If I could, I'd give 10 stars! It is the Ultimite TIM BURTON movie!

Summary: Mixed emotions over a well-made film
Review: Tim Burton has made a GREAT film that incorporates the greatest aspect of classic horror: creepiness, suspense and just the right amount of humor.

The production values are superb and have Burton's fingerprints all over them. The performances are great, from Depp's whimsical but squeamish "Constable" Ichabod Crane to a supporting cast that is, simply put, to die for.

Where I fault the film (it would be a 3 1/2 for me) is the loss of Washington Irving's original vision. Ichabod Crane is not the hero of the story. He doesn't rid the town of the Headless Horseman. Of course, this doesn't quite fit the bill for a Depp/Burton vehicle. This would have made a fun sequel -- what happened after Ichabod disappeared. As it is, it is a very shaky reworking that over-analyzes Crane's childhood and introduces too many plot and character changes to really make it recognizable.

Would that Burton had brought the original story to film with this much energy and whimsy and spookiness. Alas, it was not meant to be, but it's still a good film overall.

Summary: A perfect blend of gore, comedy, witchcraft and macabre
Review: Tim Burton, being the genius that he is, has, in this delightfully sickening and humorous story, taken three of the best genres and crammed them into one.
Firstly, the fascinatingly revolting gore and graphic decapitating along with the sheer chill of the remote village of Sleepy Hollow and its stories of witchcraft and murder concoct quite the perfect atmosphere for the story to flourish fully.
Secondly, thanks to Johnny Depp and his catalogue of hilarious yet sinister facial expressions, we have a film which not only makes us shudder, but laugh in the midst of the darkness. He plays hapless Constable Ichabod Crane, with an air so realistic, so camp and so... utterly unbelievable that it almost beggars belief. He stumbles his way through the film with likeable cluelessness, loveable eccentricity and a wave of sparkling intellect that sometimes make time when he is offscreen simply waiting time.
The third is of course, the fairy tale. Just when you think you're about to get your teeth into a great slice of gory mystery, it is snatched from you in the most bizarre ways possible. On first watch, Sleepy Hollow is difficult to define and consequently not necessarily as enjoyable to watch as it is the second time. But when you can appreciate it for a fairy tale, a dark comedy and a horror film, you will be drawn to it with an indefinable fascination.
Unbeatable atmosphere with a cast who are all on top form (including a blonde Christina Ricci), Sleepy Hollow should not be missed by any Tim Burton fan. Or, for that matter, any person, alive or dead. Hehe.

Summary: Simply excellent in all regards!
Review: An American horror classic, Sleepy Hollow tells the harrowing tale of Ichabod Crane. At the behest of the ever-wonderful Christopher Lee, Ichabod Crane travels two days journey to the town of Sleepy Hollow. It would appear that someone or something is killing the townspeople of Sleepy Hollow by beheading them. Crane, unaffected by the superstitions of the community believes the murderer to be a man and not the myth however, those who live in the Hollow know the culprit to be far from human. A dark spirit has fallen on this secluded hamlet in the person of the headless horseman. Rising from his grave each night, he seeks out the heads of those chosen to meet a grisly end. Not exactly the tale as it was originally woven, Sleepy Hollow through Tim Burton's eyes is a wonder to behold. The incredible sets coupled with top-notch storytelling; incredible special effects & a simply amazing score make Sleepy Hollow one of the best horror films of recent history!

The audio presented is absolutely gorgeous! First let's get to the technical aspect of the audio. The center channel is crystalline in its reproduction of the dialogue for the film. The surrounds & sub are in constant play as well. There is just enough sub use to create the incredibly overwhelming sense of dread used to propel the film.

I cannot say enough about Danny Elfman's score! Gothic & big come to mind when defining the beauty of his musical work for the film. The director's commentary by Tim Burton is another well done segment on an already very well produced DVD. Both informative and heartfelt, you get a real sense of the director's perspective as he realizes his vision of this American literary classic.

I saw this film when it opened & was put off by its seemingly overwhelming muddy visual atmosphere. I expected it to be a dank & dark film but that should have been content only, not the print of the film. Upon viewing the disc I am happy to report Paramount provided a new & improved anamorphically enhanced BRIGHT and beautiful transfer! On DVD, it's like watching a whole new film! The colors are not necessarily vibrant throughout the feature but, in certain parts, namely, the party at Boltus Van Tassel's in the beginning of the film, the interior of Van Garret's coach & Ichabod's initial meeting with the town leaders in the back room of Van Tassel's country manse, the colors are absolutely beautiful.

In addition to the great audio commentary & the two trailers for the film-one theatrical & one teaser, there is a 30 minute "Behind the Legend" featurette. This segment takes you behind the scenes with cast & crew interviews & gives you an insightful view into the production of some of the film's special effects & stunts. Additionally, it paints a picture of the ensemble cast establishing the kind of atmosphere created when a group of actors that is this talented gets together with a director like Tim Burton!

Sleepy Hollow is one of the greatest American horror stories ever written. Till now, it had not received the kind of treatment needed to make it a classic piece of cinema as well. Tim Burton's vision is richly terrifying & deliciously evil. In homage to the Hammer films of old, Tim Burton brings to life one of horror's most frightening visages, the Headless Horseman. Generally given to mixed reviews, Sleepy Hollow is just one of those tremendously atmospheric films that you either loved or you hated. I fell in love with Sleepy Hollow on my initial viewing & greatly enjoyed all that Burton did with the storyline. I have to say that I am a great fan of Tim Burton's work & this film further cemented that opinion. If you are looking for a good rich scare, I highly recommend this feature to you. On every level, this film makes an awesome presentation!

Summary: Awful
Review: I like Tim Burton's movies. So, when I heard he was making a movie called "Sleepy Hollow," I was very excited since my favorite story of all time is "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow." However, when I saw the movie, I was disgusted with what Mr. Burton did. He took characters from my favorite story...a classic of American literature...and put them in a glorified slasher movie. It had nothing to do with Washington Irving's famous story! If Tim Burton wanted to make a horror film, why couldn't he come up with something original like he has in his other films? Better yet, he could've made a faithful adaptation of the original story!
What upsets me the most is that some people, after seeing this film, will then expect to find a "horror" story if they read the original story, only to be "disappointed" to find that its actually just a good natured, old-fashioned ghost story. Believe me, reading "The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving is a much better experience than sitting through this film!

Summary: Sleepy Hollow rocks
Review: I did not expect this to be a good movie. I rented it on payper view only because I was bored. I was really surprised. It is now one of my faverite movies. The connection between Depp and Ricci are portrayed so realisticly. It is almost like this story actually happened.

Summary: AWESOME
Review: Through my wife I'm becoming more and more of a Johnny Depp fan, and this movie has added to that. Plus being a fan of Christina Ricci and Chritopher Walken made this a no-brainer. The atmosphere is spooky, the characters wonderful yet a certain surrealism pervading everything (which is dead-on for a spooky ghost story!). Wonderful and inventive re-telling of the legend.
