Summary: This was a comedy.......right?
Review: I was expecting to see a rip-off of Friday The 13th when I bought this DVD. Sometimes rip-off's can be better than the movie they ripped off. That wasn't the case with this one, however, I was not disappointed. Yes, the acting was horribly labored and the screenplay was ludicrously far fetched, but damn funny at the same time. I don't think this is what the director had in mind, of course now he's probably saying he MEANT for it to be funny and disguising it as a slasher movie was the "genius" of it. As far as this goes as a horror/slasher film: there are a few murders that are pretty cool and original and not the traditional axe in the head like most movies. There isn't much gore in this, but for what little there is it's pretty realistic. Especially for a movie filmed in 1983. I loved the ending, but only because it made me laugh hystericaly. It's almost as if the director had only ten minutes of tape left while he was filming this and had to come up with an abrupt ending off the top of his head. It really is a shocker. Through all my years of watching horror films I've seen them come up with all sorts of outlandish and weird ideas but this one really takes the cake. Sleepaway Camp has my vote for Best Inadvertently Funny Movie Of The Millenium.

Summary: One of the best Horror Movies?
Review: Wow this film is awesome! I definately recommend you see this film as it has every element of a first class horror movie. It starts off with a family consisting of 1 guy (the father) and his 2 kids on a tiny boat enjoying the summer, however a speedboat goes out of control and maims and kills the dad and his daughter (his other kid survives and goes to live with her aunt and Foul Mouthed cousin Ricky). 8 years later (the now 12yr old) Angela joins her older cousin Ricky (13) to go stay at his favourite summer camp: Camp Arawak! Anglea is very quiet so much so she is mute (seriously!)and doesn't really fit in or join in on any other the activities going on there, so she inevitably is picked on and teased by the other campers. Ricky (apart from playing some cool jokes on his mates, having fun and sporting a mullet Pat Sharpe would be ashamed of) is always at Angelas side protecting her and fighting off bullies. After a couple of gruesome murders including Artie 9the camps very pervy chef) Ricky's best mate Paul cracks Angela's silence and the two become a couple however Paul was caught in the bushes with Judy (the worst of all the tormenters to Angela) and Angela is very upset. So begin more gruesome murders and more torment! The ending is an absolute classic never to be missed or witnessed again! This is a classic whodunit, gory, suspensful, shorts so short it should be illegal and well worked movie, it has shocks, the worlds worst moustache, violence and men wearing crop tops! There's great acting by Ricky, awful acting by Frank the Cop and ohmygodissheforreal acting by aunt Martha (an actress obviosly snorting more than just snuff!) This is one of the best Horror movies ive ever seen and i'm a die hard horror fan, Please watch this FILM! and enjoy....

Summary: A COMBINATION OF FRIDAY THE 13TH & MEATBALLS !!!!!
Review: I didn't remember SLEEPAWAY CAMP too much but after watching it, I thought it was a combination of Friday the 13th and Meatballs. Written and directed by Robert Hiltzik (the only film he did) , the story deals with a girl Angela who takes her rage out on campers who killed her father in a boating accident years before. We find out at the end that Angela is a boy which I thought was a disgusting ending. There are some homosexual elements in the film that were very questionable. I didn't personally mind it but one would assume that watching this film, homosexuals are killers which is a myth I don't feel comfortable with. That was the only thing about this film that bugged me. Otherwise, it was a satisfactory film.

This DVD contains a scene selection card, commentaries, trailers, behind the scenes footage and outtakes, etc. This film is presented for the first time in 1.85:1 widescreen. The picture and sound quality are good for a film that were made for very low budgets.

If you are a fan of the Sleepaway Camp films and / or the horror genre, then get your SLEEPAWAY CAMP today !!!

Summary: Keep an Open Mind
Review: I first saw this film on cable years ago, and was simply astounded. I wasn't about to pass up on getting the disk! While many people have never heard of Sleepaway Camp, it's unlikely that they'll forget it after giving it a watch. If you're looking for a good, all-around slasher flick, then you should look somewhere else. But if you've got a sense of humor, a couple of hours to kill (pardon the pun), some beer and a few friends to enjoy it with, this film is the ticket. It's really low budget and does nothing original, but when you see the ending...wow! It's simply outrageous.

Summary: Typical 80's Horror Movie
Review: I love horror movies. I saw this movie, and it wasn't disappointing, but I could tell they were trying to get the same audience as "Friday the 13th". It was very strange, and I was in shock at the end(you'll know what I mean when you watch it). I think that if your a horror movie buff like myself, "Sleepaway Camp" is definetly worth watching. Expect the same thing as from the other 80's horror movies. Not so good acting, but satisfyingly scary.

Summary: Darlings! It's FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!
Review: After hearing so much I finally saw it, and let me say it was worth everything I have ever heard. While stylistically the film makes the original F13 look like "Citizen Kane" (because the cinematorgraphy and editing are among the cheesiest seen, with everything shot in bright primary colors and dayglo lighting) "Sleepaway Camp" stands on its own as a brilliant compendium of every American social anxiety of the 1980s--the era when baby boomers were coming to the fore and their parents were beginning to see for themselves how their repressed, fifties
role oriented approach to childrearing had produced a generation of malcontents--which compensates for its slow rhythm, lack of
atmosphere and the fact that while it features some of the most origninally thought out murder sequences they are not nearly as
graphic as one might expect from the genre. Of course, budgetary restraints might have factored in here as well. The film seems almost to be two movies--the goings on at the camp and what it was like to live with Aunt Martha. Desiree Gould is so brilliant in this role I am not fully convinced she is a woman. Karen Fields as Judy is the best bithch this side of
"Carrie" and Felissa Rose is touching as Angela. As for the climax, all I will say is my jaw dropped and then I could not stop laughing! This film begs to be seen. I guarantee that when you do not only will you see what all the fuss was about, you will want to join the "We Hate Judy" fan club!

Summary: classic.
Review: here's what i've been reading in the other reviews, "blahblahblahblah, it doesnt have any big actors in it, blahblahblah, i don't like real horror movies." this movie is classic, as i said in the heading, definently the best ending ever. i haven't bought the dvd yet but it's probably better than the VHS version i have. you can't lose with either one really.

Summary: You must buy this movie now!
Review: You've seen B horror movies? This is a C- horror movie, which is precisely what makes it so great. If you've got a teenager's sense of humor or enjoy such atrociously bad acting, bad dialogue, and bad filmmaking that you crack up, this is the movie for you. Don't hesitate--make the investment. "She's a real carpenter's DREAM..."
