Summary: Jason Takes Manhanttan - a pure standout for the series!
Review: With the 8th installment of Friday the 13th, the filmmakers decided to do something a little different - and they succeeded. Extremely well.

Jason is once again resurrected when a boat anchor decends to the bottom of Crystal Lake cutting a power cable. Nothing really sounds new? Think again. Jason Vorhees, who looks incredible this time around, boards a ship leaving for New York loaded with vulnerable college students, on their way to a sight-seeing field trip. Jason manages to take out the whole crew of the ship except for a few survivors who escape on a life boat. In some strange coincidence, they end up in Manhattan, where the ship was traveling the whole entire time. They're relieved that they managed to escape the doomed voyage, however they have no idea that Jason has followed them. Nobody can escape good 'ol Mr. Vorhees that easily!

This film of the series takes a beating from critics and other fans alike, but I feel the series reached it's peak with this one.

The cleverness and gore level of this film are moderate. However it does have it's moments that will make you chuckle. I won't spoil any for you, but it's worth the wait (if you havn't seen this film already)

One of my favorite things about this film is the soundtrack. It's really eerie unlike the previous films attempts. Blended with 80's rock, the finished score is really something.

As far as the acting is concerned, you'll find the best you'll ever see in a Jason film.

If you've already seen this film on VHS, and you're seeking to get the DVD in hopes for something new, and some special features, skip it. Otherwise this fabulous entry into the Friday the 13th series has only gotten better with it's picture quality and crisp sound. It really looks great on DVD format.

Review: Alright. To be perfectly honest... probably anything you've heard bad about this movie is true. The only really good side is, should you happen to skip this movie, the rest of the series tends to make sense going from seven to nine. I managed to watch all of the Friday the 13th movies in two nights about a year ago, and this one stank, and badly. Jason doesn't even has his hockey mask. He gets this gold one from a kid on a boat over Crystal Lake at the very begining of the movie. It doesn't have the hatchet mark, or the slice from the Machette he got in Movies 3 and 4... and then him "hiding" or whatever on the ship leading to Manhatten the whole movie just seemed really bogus. People have rather stupid deaths (and I'm a horror movie fan, so how you die plays a big part), and the one person who nearly got Jason (the black guy) gives up a moment to soon, or tires out or what have you. To top it all off, (spoiler! Skip this if you care!) Jason actually DIES at the end of the movie and reverts to being a little kid. It's just sad. The Final Friday didn't make tons of sense, but at least it was fun to watch, you know? This movie was really an insult to the series, and I'm not surprized they tried something so different at the begining of the ninth one.

Summary: Review part 2
Review: ...

Friday the 13th V- A New Beginning- Though considered the worse of the Friday films, I give it credit for having the highest body count. About five years after insanely chopping Jason to pieces with a machete, Tommy Jarvis is taken to a secluded halfway house in attempt to reablitate him into public life. This doesn't go over very well when after he arrives, a resident nut case chops up some fat kid and whom we learn later is the kids father takes up Jason's MO and nearly kills everyone in the area. The ending [disappointed] only because, I'm wondering, who would put a knife and a hockey mask in a hospital room drawer belonging to a mental patient? Memorable kills: Girl with the biggest boobs in the whole series takes a pair of hedging shears in the eyes, guy gets his head tourniqueted into a tree, girl with the smallest [chest] gets imapled through bunk bed (the director's cut ought to have the scene intact), ... gets head chopped off on motorcycle. Reconizable actors: Actor who played as Reggie was in "Different Strokes", guy who played as Reggie's brother played in "Street Fighter", and for honorable mention, the guy who played as a grave robber in Tommy's dream who gets a machete in the gut, was in "Star Trek V" as Klingon Captain Klaa, and the brief roll of Corey Feldman.

Friday the 13th Part VI- Jason Lives- One of the better ones really. Tommy, who can't stop the delusions about Jason, desides to dig him up and incinerate his body. But he desides before lighting him up, he shoves a fence pole in him and lighting starts him up and he awakens even more powerful then ever. Naturally, the police doesn't belive him and locks him in when he tells them what happend, nor do they want to pollute the new image they are trying to convey for the renamed "Lake Forrest Green". Jason takes out a bunch of paintballers and soon takes out the counselors at the rebuilt and reopened camp site. Tommy, who is now being pursued by the Sheriff for the murders Jason did, befriends the Sheriff's daughter and counselor of Camp Forrest Green, and plans to make the lake Jason's permanent home. Memorable kills: Triple decapitation (could have been more detailed), knife through skull, ripping off girl's head. Reconizable actor: Thom Matthew was in Night of the Living Dead 2, Tony Goldwin, and as Tommy's unfortunate friend, the guy from "Welcome back Kotter".

Friday the 13th VII- The New Blood- Tina, upset of her father's abusive treatment of her mother, accidently drowns her father with her telekinetic powers. Years later, she returns back to the cabin to be evaluated by her doctor. She doesn't like him and knows he is trying to exploit her gifts. Over guilt of her father's death, she tries to raise him from the dead, and instead revives Jason, who was chained to the bottom by Tommy. He kills the party goers in the next door house, and before long kills Tina's mother and doctor. Faced with him and her emotions, she uses her powers to kill him, but he ends up getting swallowed under water when Tina's father revives (at least she got it right) and pulls him down. Memorable kills: Jason seems to be getting good at the fist impalments, whacking a girl against a tree, Teri Kaiser taking a power limb saw in the gut, the cruelist girl taking an ax in the head and thrown behind the TV. Reconizable actors: The aformentioned Teri Kaiser (whose corps isn't actully moved this time), Susan Blu (if you watch cartoons like I do, you will reconize her voice, she did the voice of Arcee in Transformers and is the voice director for Beast Wars and Beast Machines and countless other cartoons).

Summary: A review of all the friday the 13th films.
Review: Friday the 13th- Teens blaimed for death of kid, mother kills teens and 22 years later, kills more teens. Memorable kill: Jack gets throat impailed by broadhead. Reconizable actor: Keven Bacon

Friday the 13th part 2- Five years later, counselors open a camp on opposite side of Crystal Lake despite ominous name "Camp Blood" and warning from local crazy guy. A leson to all those: Always listen to the local nut. Heroine uses child psycology and his mother's sweater to fool Jason into beliving she is his mother despite standing in front of her severed head and eventully slams the same machete used to kill his mother to bring him down for now. Memorable kills: Pig gets a hammer stuck in his head, cripple taking a machete in his face, Double imapailment scene. Reconizable actors: Stu Charno (he was in "Christine" and "Once Bitten").

Friday the 13th part 3- Only about one day after part 2, a bunch of over age kids and a couple of hippies stay at a house owned by a girl who previously had a history with Jason. Jason gets his trademark hockey mask. This movie took longer to film because of the 3D fad in the 80s. Memorable kill: The 3D eyeball popping scene. Reconizable actors: Nick Savage was also in "Fright Night" as a bouncer.

Friday the 13th- The Final Chapter- Aparently the director wanted to end this while consept was still fresh, didn't happen. Jason escapes from morgue after leaving behind two of the first deaths, kills a fat hitch hiker, and murders an entire house of teens, then terrorizes Corey Feldman and his sister who befriends a man who wants revenge for the murder of his sister (the double imapalment victem of part 2). Memorable kill: It's a toss up between the guy getting his head crushed in shower wall and Crispen Glover taking a cleaver in the face after finding the corkscrew he was looking for. Reconizable actors: you know the ones!

Summary: Worst of the Friday series
Review: Jason Takes Manhattan is by far the worst film in the Friday the 13th institution.

This film was not made by Friday the 13th fans or anyone who respected it for its popular, niche market success over the years.

It's clear that with this film the producers wanted to close the door on Jason and take their money and run. The attempt to weave in a background story and to finally kill off Jason and end the madness is lame and unacceptable.

Also, this film has many elements that just seem out of place in a Friday flick. Some people want like that in terms of having something new, but still. I chalk some of it up to 1989. The metal video segment, the camcorder pov, the insane warping ability of Jason (one of the films worst atrocities), the absolute LACK of GORE. By 1989 the MPAA had done their own slashing to the whole Friday the 13th series. Ever since passing the first one with an R they were harsh to the series. Thus we get to read all about the grisly effects they made for the film and scenes they shot but that got CUT.

Which brings me to another important comment regarding this series. The DVD releases are an insult to fans. NO EXTRAS. The most we ever get on these DVDs is a laughable trailer (in particular for Part IV). Paramount should put some effort into the DVD releases for a series that was so kind to them.

This film has redeeming qualities, however. It's absolutely excellent for unintentional laughs. The stupidity of the victims (we pretty much want them all dead about 20 minutes in) and some of the lines and hamming is great. It's just so poor, as if the series was handed over to some new execs who had faint memories of seeing one or two Fridays. Credit where credit is due: Jason punching a guy's head clean off(!), the death of the high school principle by getting dunked in a garbage can full of toxic waste which appear to be plentiful in New York, and Jason silencing a street gang with a flick of his mask.

So this film has 2 strikes. It's the worst, most laughable Friday, and the DVD, despite a good transer, is a joke. Oh, and Jason doesn't take Manhattan. Or should I say, Vancouver. We get about 3 minutes in Times Square (all this film could afford) and some laughable action in the "dirty, steamy, grimy alleys" of New York City.

Avoid this in any form. Only hard-core Friday fans need apply. And go and sign that online petition to get these films released with all of the cut special effects and makeup.

Summary: Jason In New York
Review: Finally! At long last they finally took it out of the woods. Pity that it took eight installments to do that. Friday the 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan is very refreshing. There's finally a change of scenery and a somewhat new story. This one is not as bad as many have said. The only problem is that most of the movie takes place on a cruise ship and not New York City. Other than that, it's way above the average Jason flick. Also check out Friday the 13th Parts 1, 3, and 7.

Summary: Eight is Great!
Review: Definately the best fo the series. I don't know about other people but I think it's cool to see the slasher more. This one has the most Jason scenes. Jason walking the streets of new york. The best, go buy it, renting would be a waste of time.

Summary: Best of the Series!
Review: Personally, I thought that Friday the 13th Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan was the best of the entire series. I couldn't believe that so many people thought that it was terrible, I heard it was the least liked of all of them, but I thought otherwise.

First of all, it stars Kane Hodder, the best Jason ever, and has a good plot unlike the others. A pleasant school trip to Manhattan aboard a cruise ship changes into terror when Jason comes aboard. Members of the ship safely get on a lifeboat and land in Manhattan, not knowing Jason conveniently followed them there.

In this sequel, Jason not only does his usual slaughtering but also toys with them a bit and uses new techniques in his killings. This is the first where I thought that Jason looked like he was really trying hard and giving a 110 percent attempt to get the victims. Plus what isn't cooler than seeing Jason just walking the streets of Manhattan. I definitely recommend this film to everybody.

Summary: One of the best Friday The 13th's for the series!
Review: This movie is entertainment like it should be! Jason killing a woman with a guitar! That is cool! This has a good plot for why Jason goes to Manhattan! He got on a boat to kill alot of people and the boat was heading that way. One of the best scenes is where Jason fights a guy on a roof and knocks his head off with one punch! Buy this it is good and don't pay any attention to the critics for it is not one of the worst movies ever made. It is just fun entertainment!
