Review: overall, i must say that i liked parts of this film but i've noticed my comments will differ slightly every time i speak concerning book of shadows. the first comment i had made to a friend was that this film was indeed better than the first one &d far stranger in all respects. the 2nd time i spoke of the film i told a co-worker the acting here is cheesy at best as usually expected in many a horror film but overall it wasn't a bad film. finally, i told my sister i liked the characters & book of shadows did stick with me somewhat longer than the first entry but is that saying a whole lot? probably not. WILL THE MAINSTREAM AUDIENCE GRAVITATE TO THIS ONE WITH SOME SORT OF STRANGE FASCINATION ? my prediction is no. why ? fans of the first film will miss that blasted 16 millimeter camera, the dizziness we all felt while the characters are running through the woods, & ofcourse the improvisational dialogue which they certainly couldn't have been used to with phantom menace playing around the same time. what makes this film work more so than the first entry? hmm, let's see. first of all, we do have some hideous images here & there which are bound to generate chills from atleast a fraction of the audience. i think the camera movements here were an improvement as well as the fantastic choice of lighting effects which are similiar in many ways to what wes craven might've done with his nightmare on elm street series. there is still some fleeting psuedo-documentary footage which may or may not satisfy fans of the first film. in one particular scene later in the film, we watch in reverse a wild ...taking place amongst our new campers via the latest in digital technology which eventually leads to some truly gruesome slayings. what else... what else ? i feel some of the other characters here were not as developed as they could've been which takes away from the film somewhat. is this a film you'll want to purchase ? perhaps you should rent first or i'd suggest buying if you find a very reasonable previously viewed copy thru the amazon.com marketplace or at your local ...video [store]. unpleasant dreams to all........ahhhhhhhh !!!
