Summary: Awesome big bad wolf!!!
Review: As an horror flicks fan I have to say this is not a movie for everyone, but If you're on the full moon mood, this one's for you, It can be considered an 80's werewolf classic beside american werewolf in london and wolfen (recently dog soldiers can be added to this trilogy), the big bad wolf scene is really amazing, (we don't need computer generated images all time), the only complaint about the DVD it's the lack of extra features, it would be nice to see a special edition with some xtra stuff

Summary: THE HOWLING!!!
Review: This is a very scary movie that at least has a sense of humor. It kind of reminds me of Hitchcock's work for some reason. I personally think that Wolfen if the best Werewolf movie, but this right behind it. Buy or Rent today!!!

Summary: Howling
Review: Even though the movie isn't full of great acting, the special effects make it something to remember. No movie that i remember has had a transformation scene like the one seen in the Howling. The Howling easily surpasses other wolf movies that have been released in the past and the dissapointments that the industries continue to release in the present. If you're a fan of werewolves The Howling should be something to look into.

Summary: Tongue-in-cheek (or fang-in-cheek) fun, effects.
Review: A werewolf movie that is part comedy and part horror, The Howling is a genre classic. Joe Dante directed this with flair, and the leads are engaging, especially Dee Wallace and Elisabeth Brooks as her evil double. Wallace, a TV reporter, puts her life on the line to help catch a sociopath named "Eddie" at the film's beginning. But things go haywire and she goes to a remote colony with her husband to recoup. This colony is actually a colony of werewolves, and from there Wallace and her friends try to stop what is happening. Lots of good werewolf lore included, a ton of in-jokes and cameo appearances (including Slim Pickens, Dick Miller and Forrest J Ackerman), but the real star of this film is the make-up effects by Rob Bottin, which are still the industry standard (people made a large fuss about Baker's work for An American Werewolf in London, but Bottin's work is better). This is a load of campy fun. Avoid the sequels, avoid them at all costs.

Summary: Waste of Money
Review: I should have remembered why I didn't go to see this "movie" in the first place. Bad acting, direction, screenplay, you name it and it was bad. Sorry I spent the money. Had I been able to rate this -**** I would have. Don't waste you time or money on this one.

Summary: The reason I bought an RX-7
Review: Yep, I saw the scene where the gas station guy says, "Hey, not everybody can afford a Mazda, you know!"
After being newly divorced, I bought a brand-new RX-7 and a week later I met a cute, blond stewardess and ended up marrying her. Been together 19 great years now. Yeah, a great movie!

Summary: In the mood for a "funny/scary" movie?
Review: Definitley fodder for a bad movie party or a group of kids who want to watch a "scary" movie but want to be able to sleep afterward.

There was nothing that really bothered me about the story although it was as predictable as can be. What really bothered me (and made me laugh until I fell off the couch) was the werewolf. Aside from the fact that it walked upright, which is a matter of taste for horror fans, the giant bunny-rabbit ears were absolutely ridiculous!

Summary: Hee, hee,
Review: Joe Dante kills me. I should have expected a little bit of silliness from the maker of "Gremlins". While not all that scary coming off your TV screen, I could imagine a few frights in the theatre. Worth it for the complete, almost five minutes long transformation of man to werewolf, the numerous in joke props ("Wolf Chili", the appearance of "Howl" by Ginsberg on someones desk) and the full frontal of Angelina Jolie lookalike Elisabeth Brooks. It was better than Carrie.

Summary: High on my list of horror movies
Review: Although not my favorite werewolf movie, this one definitely ranks high on my list. Most werewolf movies are garbage, just look at every single one of this film's sequels. But there have been exceptions in the world of werewolves. One of these exceptions includes this low-budget gem, "The Howling." While I prefer both older werewolf films and "American Werewolf in London" to this film, that does not make it bad by any means. Let's look at the similarities of the two films.

They were both released in 1981

They both included makeup work by Rick Baker (Just look at the credits)

And they were both influenced by the infamous 1950s comic book "Tales from the Crypt" (As were many other films, not to mention the T.V. series of the same name)

That's right. "Crypt" invented the horror-comedy genre, an approach John Landis chose in "American Werewolf." "The Howling," a much darker film, was adapted from a book. I've heard the book is terrible, but I can't comment because I haven't read it. I do know that the concept of a secret society of werewolves was snatched directly from a "Crypt" story. Remember, these comics are from the 1950s. (They were eventually banned by the government because of their content) The story's called "Concerto for Violin and Werewolf." Buy a reprint, and you'll be surprised at how similar the story is to "The Howling"

OTHER GOOD WEREWOLF MOVIES: "American Werewolf in London," "The Wolf Man," "The Werewolf of London," "Curse of the Werewolf"

STAY AWAY FROM: All the "Howling" sequels, "American Werewolf in Paris," most other werewolf films

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Enjoyable werewolf film.
Review: A news anchorwoman arrives at a peaceful backwoods resort only to discover there are werewolves in the midst. Mostly entertaining horror film suffers from a boring and monotonous opening half-hour, before firmly settling its niche with a suspenseful and scary second half. There are a few other flaws, mainly that Dee-Wallace Stone never develops her character fully and the werewolf effects aren't particularly great, but it's overall enjoyable and has a great setting to boot. Recommended, though I still slightly prefer Silver Bullet.
