Summary: ONE OF THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIES AVAILABLE
Review: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN AND ALSO STANDS AS ONE OF CARPENTER'S BEST EFFORTS TO DATE ON SCREEN. JAMES WOODS IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE TOP VAMPIRE SLAYERS TO DATE TO GRACE THE SCREEN, AND THOMAS IAN GRIFFITH IS WITHOUT PEER AS THE MOST SAVAGE AND LETHAL VAMPIRE TO TEAR THE LIFE OUT OF ANYONE WHO CROSSES HIS PATH. THE MOVIE WAS VERY ATMOSPHERIC AND MOODY, THE MUSIC WAS GREAT, THE HELICOPTER SHOTS OF THE NEW MEXICO COUNTRYSIDE AND HIGHWAYS WERE GREAT AS WERE THE SPAGHETTI WESTERN CLOSEUPS OF JAMES WOODS EYES IN THE BEGINNING. I WISH THE FINAL BATTLE BETWEEN WOODS AND GRIFFITH HAD LASTED LONGER, ALSO I WISHED THEY HAD DELVED MORE INTO HOW THE MEN WERE RECRUITED ONTO THE TEAM, HOW LONG THE TEAM HAD BEEN TOGETHER, AND MORE OF THE VATICAN END OF THE TEAM RECRUITMENT. BECAUSE OF THIS I GAVE THE M0VIE 4 OUT OF 5 STARS. THIS IS A NO NONSENSE SHOOT-EM-UP WESTERN OF A VAMPIRE FILM. BLADE WAS A COMIC BOOK COME TO LIFE WITH THE MOST WIMPY MASTER VAMPIRES EVER PUT ON THE SCREEN. INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE WAS A VERY SUAVE STYLISH CLASSICAL LOOK AT VAMPIRES BUT LACKED THE PUNCH WOODS AND GRIFFITH'S SAVAGERY PORTRAYED ONSCREEN. IN MY OPINION THIS FILM OFFERS THE MOST BRUTAL AND MERCILESS VAMPIRES YET PUT ON SCREEN. I TIP MY HAT TO MR CARPENTER FOR THIS.

Review: This movie is thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. There is a point at which it gets a little slow, however it only serves to help set up the thrilling climax. Not quite as amazing as the John Steakley novel it's based on, but that can be blamed on their budget. James Woods is fabulous as Jack Crow, the total bad@$$ leader of the vampire-hunting team. Another great aspect of the film is its non-political correctness. Jack Crow and his comrades are equal opportunity offenders. Also features a cameo by The Shawshank Redemption writer/director Frank Darabont.

The commentary on this DVD is not the greatest, unfortunately. John Carpenter sounds as if he's bored and has better things to do. There are some interesting things he brings up, though.

Summary: Cool and Different Vampire movie
Review: Being a fan of John Carpenter's work, I eagerly awaited this film to appear on DVD, and I'm now happy. The transfer of the picture was fine and crisp, and the 5.1 channel audio was excellent. Plus it's a great movie too.

Summary: a really FUN movie!
Review: This film had excellent action and plenty of gore. I do agree with most of you; the climax could have been better--which is why I gave this 4 stars and not 5. Although not as exciting as BLADE, John Carpenter's VAMPIRES takes a more serious look (six or seven guys fighting the undead instead of just one). I thought James Woods and Thomas Ian Griffith put on outstanding performances. This would be a good Halloween movie.

Summary: Good movie. Good plot. Unfortunite downsides.
Review: i give vampires a 4 out of 5 beacuse to many of the main characters died and you couldn't really bond to any of them but i did like the irony of the ending and the plot was well thought up. Also I felt that the scenes when the vampires killed the people it looked to fake and unrealistic.

Summary: So much plot, so little movie
Review: The premise of this movie is predictable for anyone who ever saw the original Dracula; however, John Carpenter must have been too heavily medicated to develop it beyond a camp and often vulgar attempt at teen romp by old (age wise) actors. Had the cast from Scream or even Dawson's Creek been used it could have possibly turned into something more than just watchable. This is good celluloid fodder for matinee or the "budget" movie crowd - but eat first don't spend the extra money on movie food. Probably its best asset will be that it will be the only new movie not rented at the video store on the weekend so you won't have to go home empty handed. It is the perfect nap movie. Catch the beginning, catch the "zzzzzzzzz's", and catch the credits - an afternoon well spent on a bad-weather day.

Summary: Good flick, just make sure it's what you want!
Review: It's obvious that a movie, as specialized as this is going to get one extreme review of five stars or one star - this is totally dependant on "if it's your thing". Thomas Ian Griffith was spectacular as the lead vampire, and James Woods... well, it's the quintessential hyperactive, smart mouthed Woods that we all know and love.

John Carpenter's Vampires delivers what it sets out to deliver. People who know what they're in for before they watch Vampires have no right complaining about its gruesome content. It's just pure unadulterrated Vampire stuff, providing yet further insight into their Underworldly origins.

This is in stark contrast to "Deep Impact", where the viewer is misled into thinking that they're in for a good movie then receive decomposed sludge for their hard earned dollars in addition to their 2 lost hours of their lives, (perhaps more, if the viewer is psychotic enough to endure Deep Impact more than once!). Uggggh!!! - Now, that's the REAL horror movie!

Summary: vampires the best of them all
Review: john carpenter best known for his movies halloween and the escape series has saved the best for last with vampires. james woods takes charge in an unexpected film role for him. with daniel baldwin and sheryl lee in supporting roles vampires takes the traditional dracula story and makes it even better. awesome special effects and the great photography of gary kibbe who has worked with carpenter on past films takes vampires to A whole new level in the telling of the traditional vampire story. keep in mind as with most horror films there is plenty of blood and gore, so the faint of heart may want to pass on this. the true gore and horror fan will have to watch vampires several times before returning the copy to the video store.
